Has anyone started watching this? I’ve just watched the first episode and found it utterly chilling. It’s been a long time since a TV show has impacted me so much; I felt myself physically recoiling. Excellent acting from both the chap playing Dahmer, and his victim, Tracey.

I did wonder if he was less creepy in real
Life. He seems dirty, creepy, odd. Hard to understand how he managed to pull so
Many men. Suspext he had more
Charm and was better looking than the show
Portrays

Look at his interviews on YouTube. Peters is better looking but nailed the deadness in his voice.

He really wasn't a catch.

NippyWoowoo · 26/09/2022 20:34

Did anyone else notice that in one of the earlier episodes (sorry I can't remember which one) when he was about to kill one of the men, his eyes went lighter, like to a light green. But I didn't see that again, he only very dark brown eyes.

He actually says something like 'like my contacts?' I suspect that's artistic license, Dahmer had blue eyes, Peters has dark brown and they kept them that colour in the show. I prefer them, more unsettling. The poster for the show though shows him with the contacts in.

Doesn't do it for me.

bwa ha ha. Ewe, he’s creepy. I had no idea he was an alcoholic.

HRTQueen · 26/09/2022 20:43

I notice his eyes went dark a few times I think this was more lighting

this is shark eyes (that’s what we call it at work) when someone is having vey dark angry or paranoid thoughts (I work with men some who have committed very violent offences)

Wow! Is it because their pupils dilate?

I love Evan peters and think he is criminally underrated, I’ve watched 5 episodes and if he doesn’t get some sort of award for his portrayal, that’s a crime in itself. I’ve watched a lot of serial killer documentary’s and seen interviews with the real Jeffrey dahmer and Evan has defo nailed it.

Can we just acknowledge neicy Nash aswell, that woman is outstanding...

TheRubyRedshoes · 26/09/2022 21:56

Strangely something in his performance reminds me of Jonny depps portrayals

HailAdrian · 26/09/2022 22:26

I developed an interest in true crime -particularly serial killers - many moons ago before it was trendy so I had already read about Dahmer. I don't think I've ever seen any tv or film that tops the real actions of these men in terms of horror. I'm only on episode 3 but 2 was obviously horrible, especially knowing the police really were fucking incompetent and didn't give a shit about that kid.

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/09/2022 06:18

@HailAdrian if you look up an image of Konerak Sinthasomphone, he is very clearly a child. He barely looks 14. There is no feasible way the police believed he was an adult. They just didn't care. I read an interview with one of the women who called it in and she said she thinks about him every day.

Tootels · 27/09/2022 07:01

Finished it. Quite a few bits were altered. Did Glenda really eat the sandwich?

Tootels · 27/09/2022 07:08

@macthekwife I didn't think the abuse stories were true?

Yep agree. When I first saw her in her nightclothes I thought she was 70+ the next day in her sleeveless denim jacket I was like wow. Loved her.

orangeisthenewpuce · 27/09/2022 07:23

It's so slow. They could have told the story in half of the episodes.

Many people are into true crime, you're not special because you didn't jump on a serial killer bandwagon Confused

Yup. She was the heart for all the victims (direct and indirect) in this series, and was so effective at it. She was absolutely superb.

I can’t find the original poster here but do you mean the abuse stories about his dad…? That his dad sexually abused him? I’ve just finished reading the dads book - A Fathers Story- and it says in the book that those allegations were made by someone who’d met Jeffery Dahmer and his Dad twice and essentially said it to get a story in the news. As soon as it came out apparently JD made a public statement saying he’d never been abused by his father in that way. Make of that what you will. Given that he was unfalteringly honest about everything else I can’t see him lying about that.

The Dads book is so interesting by the way. Well worth a read. I downloaded it to Kindle app via amazon.

Umm ok? Feel better now? What a bizarre post 😆

iloveeverykindofcat · 27/09/2022 08:43

Nah I think his dad was just....kind of a useless guy? The type to bury his head in the sand and hope the extremely obvious problems in his family would go away.

I'm on episode 2 or 3 can't remember but I really don't understand people who say they have nightmares from it or it's scary. It's really not scary! Evan Peters is a brilliant actor & it is a good series to know about what he did. I had no idea it was just black, gay men he killed. I just thought it was gay men.

I don’t think it was just black gay men - I think 9 of the 17 were black? At least according to that great source Wikipedia…

HRTQueen · 27/09/2022 09:09

We have to remember the understanding of mh issues has changed so much even in the last 10 years

I can think of a number of boys in my school who I am sure would by diagnosed with ADHD or ASD

i had terrible anxiety and depression so did many of my friends some taking over doses only ones that were having any physiological support were those who had wealthy parents

i think that was most people’s way of dealing with mh issues and often still are are there is no quick fix and it’s so complex to understand

User38899953 · 27/09/2022 09:11

I've read quite a bit about him over the years.

From what I can gather, he was extremely personable and likeable to everyone he met. Which is how he got away with it for so long.

This series seems to portray him as awkward and having little social skills and confidence.

Going to have to do another deep dive I think !

What's bizarre is viewing serial killers as some cool trend that you were way ahead of
