The young Phil actor deserves a BAFTA!
..

SoupDragon · 05/09/2022 20:48

He must have spent a lot of time watching Phil to prepare.

Jellykat · 05/09/2022 20:48

I guess Keeble is working her way through the list of who was present when her dad was shot, guess not being there at the time she wouldnt really know the extent of how it unfolded? ..but she must know Billys a numpty surely?

the80sweregreat · 05/09/2022 20:50

Why now for Kibble?
Why not all those other times she has sparred with Phil ?

nancy75 · 05/09/2022 20:53

For Phil to grass on Billy, Billy needs to have actually done something! He’s been going straight for years.

MichaelAndEagle · 05/09/2022 20:55

Yeah, I liked the flashback but I don't really get why she wants Billy now. Is she just enjoying having something over Phil?

There was Eric, Phil & Grant, Billy & Charlie (who is dead) plus one other?

Livinthedream84 · 05/09/2022 20:58

I got a 60s vibe from the show too and agree young Phil was absolutely epic!! The rubbing of his face, his body language the lot. That actor is amazing I bet Steve was proud.

what I don’t get is why billy? Billy didn’t shoot him or even organise it all. Will Phil dob his dead dad in? Save billy?

the80sweregreat · 05/09/2022 20:58

Kibble said he needs to be framed for old criminal activities in the 70s.
It would have to go to trial wouldn't it ?
I'm not sure what she wants really

Just watched on iPlayer. Phil was excellent! As has been said, the look, the mannerisms... everything was spot on. I also thought Billy's voice was right too. Great casting!

The look didn't seem right for 1979 though. It did all seem earlier to me but surely that's not something the BBC would get wrong. I guess they were poor so would not have been up to date with things though.

why is Keeble blaming Billy for everything though?

That's what I thought. I was born early 80's and we still had some stuff from years and years prior to that in our home as we were quite poor. It was probably to provide a bit of contrast between well off Glenda and poor Peggy.

Meredusoleil · 05/09/2022 21:07

The Peggy actress also did a great job. Same size, height, voice, hair and everything 👍

I thought the actor playing Grant was great too.

Meredusoleil · 05/09/2022 21:08

I think the ages were a bit out though. Eric barely looked old enough to have 2 grown up sons. Whilst Sam only being 3 means she must have a huge age gap with her brothers. They must have been at least late teens no?

Meredusoleil · 05/09/2022 21:09

Yes his voice was similar. I just can't get over how much hair he had though 🙃

pawkins · 05/09/2022 21:24

I didn't like that episode. I found it very uncomfortable to watch. Turned on tv to be entertained and tuned into half an hour of domestic abuse. Its seems a lot of effort for one episode just to recap Keeble's personal reasons for going after the Mitchells so I really hope they aren't planning any more episodes in that format.

rainbowruthie · 05/09/2022 21:26

That should have been a post watershed episode

SoupDragon · 05/09/2022 21:29

I don't think there was anything that needed to be post watershed. No more than there is on an ordinary episode.

Meredusoleil · 05/09/2022 21:33

Phil must be much older than Keeble going by their ages in the 1979 flashback. She looks nearly as old as him to me!

Fiddlersgreen · 05/09/2022 21:38

Young Phil was excellent. Played him to a tee. Loved it when Peggy shouted GET OUT OF MY HOUSE
Just read that Keeble first appeared in 2008, same actress.
Actress is 54, Steve McFadden is 63 - Phil is 61

Fiddlersgreen · 05/09/2022 21:38

Sorry, Phil is also 63

SoupDragon · 05/09/2022 21:41

GET OUT OF MY HOUSE

yes! Just perfect 😂

3peassuit · 05/09/2022 21:59

Young Phil was perfect as was Peggy. The women’s clothes were from the early 70s rather than the late. The furniture was wrong too, IKEA hadn’t arrived but someone like Peggy would have been influenced by Habitat in the home.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2022 22:01

They had no money though.

My feelings are based on what we had in 1979 but my dad had a good steady income from working on Fleet Street.

SoupDragon · 05/09/2022 22:06

Actually, I think my grandma's flat would have been on a par with the house shown in this. It was rented, very dated and didn't even have a bathroom. It had a toilet off the kitchen and a bathtub in the kitchen!

MichaelAndEagle · 05/09/2022 22:13

Agree, they may not have had the latest fashions and furnishings. They were not well off.
