Anyone else excited.

oddly the daily Mail have totally changed their review of it overnight. Last night the article said it was a total turkey and would likely bankrupt Amazon studios. Poor acting, dire story lines, etc. couldn’t have been worse.

today it’s much more factual about what the show is about rather than really giving an opinion. I think Amazon have paid the DM off! 😂

OP posts:

Looking forward to this - the reviews seem good.

JustTheOneSwan · 01/09/2022 17:10

I have waited eagerly but the mail review put a downer on it.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 01/09/2022 20:38

I'm very excited!

GinandTonic1975 · 02/09/2022 06:56

It's on Prime now, so excited but have to wait to get home from work so I can watch it!

JustTheOneSwan · 02/09/2022 07:12

I could squeeze it in before work but I want to do it justice so I'm waiting, did check it was available though!

SpinCityBlues · 02/09/2022 07:19

I saw that absolutely excoriating ‘turkey’ review! Wowser.

Interesting to learn it has been altered, OP. It’ll be good to know posters’ thoughts on the series when they watch it. That review was totally scathing in a way not often seen in the mainstream press. I wonder if it was in the print edition?

Rhaenys · 02/09/2022 15:53

Not had a chance to watch it yet but I’m really worried now. Eek 😱

anonacfr · 02/09/2022 16:04

I want to watch it but am worried it might be more generic fantasy than Tolkien.
I wish they could do a sequel to LOTR and show what happened to the Fellowship after Aragorn becomes king.

JustTheOneSwan · 02/09/2022 20:47

Watched the first one, enjoyed it.
Just getting nachos for ep 2, the only differences I've noticed are it didn't make the assumptions the films did that everyone would know what a hobbit is and it's slower but it's a series so.

GinandTonic1975 · 02/09/2022 21:35

Seen both episodes and really enjoyed it, wasn't disappointed!

SoupDragon · 02/09/2022 21:37

I've seen the first one and I enjoyed it. Saving episode 2 for another day - not sure how long I'll hold out. 😂

Bobbybobbins · 02/09/2022 23:00

Watched episode 1 - enjoyed it but a bit slow with lots of exposition. Episode 2 is better, faster pace and loving the dwarves.

Unihorn · 02/09/2022 23:14

I absolutely loved it, which I just kept repeating all the way through.

RaininginDarling · 02/09/2022 23:55

Watched first episode and enjoyed it for the sheer spectacle. Some interesting casting too. I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves (and very much looking forward to the dwarves).

Rookie93 · 03/09/2022 00:26

Really enjoyed the first episode. It felt quite dense but they do have to set the scene in the first few episodes. Am curious about several of the characters and want to know what happens next, so saving Episode 2 for when enjoy it in peace.

crackersforcrackers · 03/09/2022 01:32

I'm so excited too- thanks for starting the thread! Does anyone know whether the episodes are released weekly/two at a time/other random way?!

crackersforcrackers · 03/09/2022 01:32

(Need to know as I'm a terrible binger Grin)

It was only two for the first week, from now on it will be one a week

ILikeHotWaterBottles · 03/09/2022 08:41

I actually liked the two episodes, and I had really low expectations. Maybe that helps I guess.

LondonWolf · 03/09/2022 17:20

I think it's great. I really don't understand the negative reviews. It's like people decided to hate it without even watching it 🤷🏼‍♀️

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 03/09/2022 17:23

Small gripe... I found some of the makeup very modern and too much. Once I noticed it I couldn't stop seeing the eyeliner!

Rhaenys · 03/09/2022 17:24

I really liked it! I think it has been getting review bombed.

I find that about The Witcher.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 03/09/2022 17:26

Even Galadrial has so much blusher on....

JonSnowedUnder · 03/09/2022 17:38

I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. Visually it looked amazing - I had been worried as I found Wheel of Time looked off (I think it was the camera).

I wasn't a fan of Gladriel, we are supposed to be on board with her hunting the evil that killed her brother but the show didn't spend any time developing him or their relationship and I felt she came across selfish for willing to sacrifice her fellow elves in her pursuit. Also having the elven king and Elrond ship her off when she was trying to argue she had found signs of Sauron feels like a lazy storyline designed to put us on her side rather than explaining why he/they wanted to ignore evidence. I'm guessing they will look at the later but it still felt lazy to me.

It also felt a bit lazy to have the son of the lady who happens to be involved with an elf, not only be the first home to be hit by what was in the tunnel but he also happens to have uncovered a tool of Sauron.

If i'm totally honest I wish Amazon had just developed their own original fantasy series rather than attempt to breathe more life into LOTR which I don't think they can get close to the same standard.
