Blondeshavemorefun · 09/08/2022 14:29

New drama starts sun and mon for 1&2

then 3&4 following week on Sunday and Monday

the lovely Nicola Walker and Sean Bean

The acclaimed British actors play Ian and Emma, who are a couple navigating the ups and downs of their 30-year partnership.

They are parents to Jessica (Chantelle Alle) and are dealing with their fears and insecurities as the drama explores the risks and gifts of a long-term relationship.

Marriage on BBC1 sees married couple Ian (Sean Bean) and Emma (Nicola Walker) negotiate the ups and downs of their 27-year marriage. They've dealt with all the insecurities, the ambiguities, the hopes and the fears that are part of all marriages. The drama explores the risks and the gifts of a long-term intimate relationship.

When we first meet married couple Ian and Emma they’re in a Spanish airport returning from a lovely holiday — and bickering over a baked potato! By the time they’re on the plane it’s a full blown argument, setting the scene for what’s to come in this four-part series.

looks good

No @LadyEloise1 I don't

AreolaGrande · 15/08/2022 19:54

Holy fucking shit DP and I have just persevered through episode one (he tried to escape at minute 23 but I dragged him back by the neck - I should've let him save himself) and I am actually enraged at how bad it was 😧🤬

For context I am a fan of NW and SB and a huge telly watcher in general. Expected it to be low key but y'know, believable and well written. How wrong I was.

Utterly, entirely unbelievable couple. They act like they've only met each other 10 mins previously. There was no authentic cosy familiarity. The way he just skulked around behind her saying nothing, Jesus H tapdancing CHRIST he'd have been under my patio years ago.

The daughter and her fella, again completely superficial inauthentic characters. Dreadful acting from both. Nothing genuine or believable about the interactions between parents and alleged daughter.

The leisure centre scene made me want to remove my own eyes with a rusty spoon. He loses his job and decides to make pestering and harassing young women his new hobby?!

WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON WITH MAXINE IN THE PUB TOILET??!

WHY DID THEY HAVE A PRINTER NEXT TO THEIR BED?!

Aaaarrrggggghhhhhh.

adriftabroad · 15/08/2022 20:19

This is absolutely brilliant.

adriftabroad · 15/08/2022 20:21

If you were expecting a light hearted thing like The Split then no, it is brilliant. (Ep4) so far.

Music in credits terrible.

LadyEloise1 · 15/08/2022 20:25

I'm so glad I didn't suggest to DH to watch it.
I'd never hear the end of it.
I'd never live down my choice of programme.
My reputation as a picker of good programmes would be in tatters.
Smile

RaininSummer · 15/08/2022 20:27

It's dire so far but maybe a good cure for insomnia. Glad to hear it improves

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/08/2022 20:38

OMFG

WHAT PART OF THE TITLE DO PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE READING AND UNDERSTANDING

TV PACE

NO SPOILERS

that means no talking about how an episode not shown makes you feel - how good or bad it was - anything that happened in it

I really hate that iPlayer brings out all episodes before shown on tv

I've started a spoiler thread
Can't do links : it's on telly addicts.
For anyone who has binged watched!

LadyEloise1 · 15/08/2022 20:53

I agree @Blondeshavemorefun

adriftabroad · 15/08/2022 20:57

People have said they will not watch it. It is shit. On and on about how awful it is and they have given up.

Most posters charged with spoilers have simply said give it a chance. It is very good.

I see no spoilers. Bloody hell. Calm down.

Exactly.

A spoiler is giving plot details not saying if it's sad, good or crap Confused.

I didn't give any spoilers and my comment was deleted for breaking guidelines 🤣

adriftabroad · 15/08/2022 21:07

It is far too complicated for spoliers 🙄

the80sweregreat · 15/08/2022 21:09

Come over to the official spoiler thread on telly addicts !

adriftabroad · 15/08/2022 21:10

Was that a spoiler? There is nothing to spoil.😅It is just great.

TheDogsMother · 15/08/2022 21:11

I'm just not getting on with this. I believe this is the same writer that did "Mum" where they took a fabulous actress and gave her a one dimensional eye-rolling role. It seems to be a bit mocking of middle aged/older people's dull lives.

Shush @CuriousMama

this is tv pace. No spoilers

Shush yourself.

It was shit anyway 😉

the80sweregreat · 15/08/2022 21:17

Mum was brilliant though.

Absolutely it was.

I think the problem with this is that I just don't believe in Emma and Ian as a couple.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/08/2022 21:29

I have the joy of mum to look forward to

I’m watching part 1.
NWs office is horribly bland. That green colour!
The grave they visited, her mums or maybe someone else’s?…

Whys Sean Bean so awkward in this ?!
