No I don’t like booing - probably wise not to do the yucky celebration though

SheilaWilde · 08/07/2022 17:56

Why don't people like Djokovic?

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 17:57

Very disrespectful to a former champion.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 17:57

Fizzy his celebration is irritating. Seeing him do it to empty stadiums during Covid confirmed how odd he is Grin

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 17:59

Sunday is going to be a festival of booing

Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:00

Well, probably for the first time in a long time, I doubt I will bother with final.

I was ABDOK at the start of the tournament, and I'm sticking with it (though obviously one of them will win). Grin

Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:02

Doesn't matter how many finals, Sue, it matters how many he's won.

And Rafa has - as of now- won 2 more slams- how ever many times they keep trying to make the '32 finals' seem better Grin

Fizzywinegum · 08/07/2022 18:05

This could be the first time that I’m ABD!

Im really not sure what the men’s final is going to be like - Kyrgios has already said that he’s feeling anxious - everyone’s been saying what a great player he is and now he’s got to prove himself

I’m looking forward to the women’s final - I bet Tim’s hoping for an Ons win - after everything he probably won’t want a Russian born player to win

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:15

I was just saying to DS2 I wonder what Wimbledon would have been like if the Russians were there and Sascha too

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:17

I just remembered my boys haven't seen each other for two weeks so they're going to be hyper.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:20

Fizzy I was thinking about the Russian situation earlier- because
when Wimbledon banned Russian/Belarusian players, one of the reasons cited was that they didn't want to have the possible scenario that the DoC could be handing a trophy to a Russian player- it would be 'embarrassing'
to be 'seen to endorse the Russian regime'.

It seems they are ok with her possibly giving a trophy to someone who has been accused of assaulting his ex gf though.Hmm

Jane I wonder what might happened if the Russians had been playing. Or Matteo didn't have covid Sad or if Stef had got rid of Nick when he had the chance Grin

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:24

If the war carries on until next year what happens then? I think they made a huge mistake.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:25

Desirae back in action in the women's doubles.

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:26

Just checked the RB. Should be in a main channel!

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:27

Jane I think so too. Sad and how do they back track?- the Ukranian players won't be happy if, come next simmer and God forbid it's still going on - Wimbledon decide 'we made a stand, but every one is back in now'. It could be a big mess.

AppropriateAdult · 08/07/2022 18:27

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:24

Agree 100%. It was a terrible call, with lots of repercussions they clearly didn’t give any thought to.

(And the idea that Kate handing Medvedev the trophy would be seen as UK endorsement of the Russian invasion of Ukraine by anyone who’s not already a die-hard Putin-ite is honestly just laughable.)

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:28

I know Collins is marmite but I like her.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:29

Oh- the important events are over now, Jane, of course. Hmm.

Of course, all things being equal and if both semi finals had played today- I'm sure it would still be on BBC1 or 2. They seem to have the football on 2.

Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:31

Appropriate I remember when I first read the statement, I couldn't believe they would actually think anyone would take it seriously. Hmm

Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:33

Jane I struggle with Danielle- she seems a bit more relaxed in doubles than when she plays singles.

AndDjokovicDancing · 08/07/2022 18:44

Agree that if I'd only seen the press conference Dick would have seemed totally reasonable.

I'm not sure I will watch the men's final, looking forward to the womens tomorrow.

absolutelynotfabulous · 08/07/2022 18:50

"So far, this is so un Djok like, it feels almost deliberate- but much as I dislike him, I can't actually see he would do that (although I think he does go in for gamesmanship- and maybe he's just lulling the British crowd on to a false sense of security- and he will pounce)"

I was thinking the same, @Raahh .

JaneJeffer · 08/07/2022 18:54

Tracy has the giggles Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:58

absolutely I've seen it so often with him -it was like a cat with a mouse. Chuck the Brits in the crowd something to cheer for. Then start the match.

Dh has suggested - since I don't want either to win on Sunday (and my allegiance to Rafa is strong[ grin]) that Djok can up 2 sets, easy match 2 bagels, - close to winning- gets injured. Has to retire, because his right arm is hanging
off (maybe not that dramatic). So,

  • Dick gets the win, but it's not much of a win, not exactly a pyrrhic victory,
but he can't really celebrate it , since he was getting thrashed. and Djok doesn't get any more slams.

Or- they do the coin toss- both lean over to check- bang their heads together- and collapse in a heap.

The BBC shows a repeat of the 2008 final.

Raahh · 08/07/2022 18:59

ooh- I got a bullet point Grin
