I don’t think he’s going to play Sad

Sunday could be the first final where I’m cheering Djok on (unless Cam does the business tomorrow!)

IceandIndigo · 07/07/2022 19:16

At least this way there will always be a cloud over Kyrgios’ achievement, people will question if he would have reached the final if Nadal had been able to play.

It feels like such an anticlimax to have those two in the final 😓

MinglingFlamingo · 07/07/2022 19:19

I want them to air the press conference

Fizzywinegum · 07/07/2022 19:21

Yes it does Ice - maybe Norrie will rescue the situation but it’s a big ask - not sure if I’ll bother watching if it’s a Djok/Kyrgios final

It does seem such an anticlimax after the drama of yesterday’s match - poor Rafa

AndNorrieDancing · 07/07/2022 19:24

Cry cry cry cry cry

MinglingFlamingo · 07/07/2022 19:25

Awww Rafa 😥😥😥 I want to give him a big hug. But realise that would probably hurt his tummy but he looks like he needs a hug

AndNorrieDancing · 07/07/2022 19:26

Oh I love him even more

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 19:27

Oh I’ve missed all this

Norrie to play Kyrgios then, good luck to him

I will be rooting for Djok if it’s NK v him in final

MinglingFlamingo · 07/07/2022 19:29

That was heartbreaking! He came across has such a nice humble chap.

Fizzywinegum · 07/07/2022 19:31

Marsha Nick automatically goes through to the final

The other semi is between Djok and Norrie

Poor Rafa Sad

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 19:32

Oh I see thanks for update

what a shame

Raahh · 07/07/2022 19:36

I've just got home- I have just seen the news.
I expected it , but so sadSad

GrouchyKiwi · 07/07/2022 19:37

That's a real shame about Rafa.

The mixed doubles final is a superb match.

Raahh · 07/07/2022 19:39

Bloody Kyrgios.
If he ends up winning, everyone will be in raptures over him- and he does not deserve it.

Rafa is doing the right thing though-heartbreaking though it is - or he could be out of action again for months. Which might still happen - but this gives him a better chance.

Raahh · 07/07/2022 19:41

And I'm sad about Halep. SadBut well done Elena.

AppropriateAdult · 07/07/2022 19:45

So disappointing 😔

Feel very sorry for Fritz as well, he’s got to be thinking about what might have been.

Also, much as I dislike Kyrgios, I don’t think anyone really wants to get to a Grand Slam final via a walkover this late in the tournament. Anti-climaxes all round.

Raahh · 07/07/2022 19:52

Rafa can concentrate on getting better and becoming a dad - I hope he makes it back for the US open- Djok shouldn't be there, hopefully!

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2022 20:11

It would have worked so much better if Cam Norrie had got a freebie to the final!

Oh well it's one less match for the beeb presenters to waffle on about Kyrgios.

Fizbosshoes · 07/07/2022 20:15

Feel really sorry for Fritz too. It went to the wire in yesterday's match, it literally could have gone either way, and if Rafa had retired, he would have had a chance to play.

AndNorrieDancing · 07/07/2022 20:20

I've really enjoyed the doubles today.

I can't believe I'm writing this but I want Djok to win against Norrie, I just don't think Norrie has the experience to beat Dick.

Sheesh, a name change I think

ChessieFL · 07/07/2022 20:22

Yes, with hindsight Rafa should have retired during the match to give Fritz a chance. However I guess he hoped that if he could make it through yesterday he would be able to play again. I’m sure that if he knew for sure he wouldn’t be able to play Kyrgios then he would have retired and let Fritz go through.

AndDjokovicDancing · 07/07/2022 20:23

Agree Chessie

Although having a long break maybe good for the body but not for the mind.

Fizzywinegum · 07/07/2022 20:40

Yes with hindsight it would have been best for Rafa to retire and give Fritz a chance in the semis but I think Rafa just lives in the moment and he was just playing to win the match - hope he has a nice rest now with Xisca and his family

The only time I want to actually watch some of the tennis from today and TAW is not showing the women’s semis - I suppose I can’t really complain as they’re showing the live doubles. Hopefully this year is the end of TAW - it’s been a bit pointless this year!

Did anyone see Rafa leaving Wimbledon? He was hugging everyone and having photos with the people on reception etc - he’s a good human person Smile

bizzey · 07/07/2022 20:41

Yeah ! Win.
To the mixed doubles...one 1/2 was a Brit !!
