OMFG... what a show. Now we will probs have to wait 2 years for the next one but bloody hell they know how to end a season.
just a few questions

  1. I was convinced Eddie was number 10, he still could be but I’m bummed we never find out and of course that they chose to kill him.
2 . Max was the star of the season. I almost thought she was a gonna and eleven wouldn’t save her. Close call

  1. I’m so happy Joyce and hop finally got together. And how hot did hop look this season?

  2. why am I convinced will is going to die in the last season. He was vecnas first ever kidnapping.

  3. we need a robin and steve spin-off where they get new jobs at the beginning of every season.

any other points people need to get off thier chests 😋

@Passtheduchyonthelefthandside the audience isn't in the 80's though and it's not exactly a documentary is it. I know what it was like in the 80's, I was there. But what they did with Will's character is the definition of gay/queerbating, to a tee. It's a storyline that could have been be better explored or explained and I think was a poor attempt.

Passtheduchyonthelefthandside · 02/07/2022 13:33

@mortalprojections yea it could have been explored, it was touched upon with Jonathan and Will, but I do think that if attitudes of characters were based in today's world, instead of the 80's, then the show would lose its meaning. The audience will question it, my kids have, I have said to them that even though it was legal (in UK, not sure about USA) it was still very much a risk to put yourself out there. It's good to see how attitudes have altered over the year's. Maybe it will be broached, along with Robin's storyline in season 5.

fpurplea · 02/07/2022 14:08

I mean, I loved it, I cried, I'm rewatching this morning, but honestly felt a little anticlimactic after the ridiculous epicness of vol 1. I know the Duffers have talked about the cast getting too large, but it really did feel like the story ended up being spread a bit thin over everyone. There was just too much occurring simultaneously to get too invested in it all, and to get too in depth into each situation.

Two days later was a total rushed cop out, sorry. Far too much was skipped over, like everyone finding out Hopper was still alive. it just felt like they had to tag it on to get everyone back together in Hawkins again before the end of the season. Hopper and El deserved a more in depth reunion, it felt so flat after the emotional rollercoaster that was Joyce and Hopper reuniting.

Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But maybe an extra episode would have helped pace things a bit better in vol 2, because for me too much was left unexplained or underdeveloped,

mortalprojections · 02/07/2022 14:38

And what happened to Max's letters?

BeenThereBoughtTheTeeShirt · 02/07/2022 16:39

Thought it was epic but I have seen the series as a whole without a gap. I thought there was too much exposition/monologuing in a couple of episodes of first lot (show don't tell ffs!) but thought the finale was pretty much perfect and I never say that usually.

xsquared · 02/07/2022 16:55

mortalprojections · 02/07/2022 14:38

And what happened to Max's letters?

I hope they won't need them in season 5.
El couldn't find Max, so I have a bad feeling about her fate 😥.

DeadButDelicious · 02/07/2022 17:06

I loved it! Absolutely loved it. I might watch it again tonight 😂.

Devastated to lose Eddie, he was a big favourite of mine.

Love that Hopper and Joyce have finally got together and that he's reunited with El.

Call me a big sappy sap but I loved Mikes speech to El about how much he loved her. I'm rooting for those two. Not even a bit sorry about it.

THANK JEBUS they didn't kill Steve. I would have had a full on 40 year old tantrum if we'd lost him.

Murray is the best and I love him.

I was even getting a little bit fond of Yuri toward the end.

Dustin, is an angel and I really want good things for him in season 5. Reunite him with Suzie!

Bless Will. He deserves nice things. And a better hair cut.

I hope Owens survives.

Max is the star of this series. Loved her. I hope they find her.

Jamie Campbell Bower was a powerhouse in this. I LOVED HIM.

I think that's it 😂 I'm sure more will come to me.

LadyApplejack · 02/07/2022 17:39

I think it was epic overall. But it dragged in places. The 2.5 hours felt indulgent, and at the risk of getting flamed I could have done without as much Max. We didn't need another monologue about Billy. #sorrynotsorry

Relieved Steve didn't die but they copped out a bit on deaths didn't they! Was convinced he was a goner!

Cheered when Papa got shot and cried when he actually died, even though I hate him!

Cried for poor old Eddie

The El comeback moments were amazing! Vecna was superb

Hope Owens survives, I think he'll be needed in S5 and since he's been proven correct there'd be no reason to torture/kill him

He's annoyed me this series but I thought the Will acting was brilliant. The scene in the car when he was crying, and Jonathan seeing and the penny dropping, it was very emotional

I can't lie, it WAS a bit anticlimactic but I think that's because of the pacing and some filler that made things drag. It would have been better if they'd kept it tighter. Otherwise it was bang on, as I feel like we got the big/rewarding moments we've been waiting for - and Steve Harrington is still with us! Bring on S5!

Chevyimpala67 · 02/07/2022 18:07

Loved it but thought Vol 2 was a bit boring at points.

I found the Will heart to hearts with Mike and his brother really touching and very well acted. Not a fan of the Mike actor tbh, but the actor who plays Will is incredible.

Loved Eddie and KNEW he would die but it was still so upsetting 💔 great Metallica guitar solo!

I'm a big fan of Paul Reiser (owens) and Matthew modine was beautiful in his youth 😍 (I had a bf that looked just like him in 1994..)

Very pleased Steve didn't die (I'd have had an emotional breakdown I think!)

Not sure where they will go in S5 but I fear Max might be part of Vecna now 😬

Oh, her and Lucas!! 💔

UpToonGirl · 02/07/2022 19:48

I think the ending to vol 1 was better, most people had grasped part of Henry/001/Vecna but not the full picture until the last moment. The ending to Vol 2 was more drawn out and there wasn't really a pinnacle moment. Also as soon as Will was talking about feeling Vecna I just wanted Joyce to grab him and get out of Hawkins!

For me vol 2 felt like it compromised to set up for next season but I have faith they'll end it on a high. I have huge respect for them ending after 5 seasons (even if there are spin off's) because so many of my favourite shows have gone on too long and it takes the magic away. I often think 3 or 5 is the best number of seasons.

Lsquiggles · 02/07/2022 20:07

I really enjoyed it but:

Furious that Eddie died, he slotted in so well with the rest of the gang and was already a way better character than half of them (Mike and Lucas remain as boring as ever, not sure what Jonathans role in all this has been either apart from playing an absent love interest!)

The episode should've ended when the town got destroyed for dramatic impact, would've been a good cliffhanger

On the other hand...

Hopper is my new crush and I did not see this coming 😂him and Joyce are too damn cute together

Steve's character development is great, love seeing a softer side to him, glad he didn't die like I had feared

Glad they killed off papa and tied up that storyline for now at least, although I did think he might have ended up being 000 and trying to create a master race

Looking forward to season 5!

Echobelly · 02/07/2022 20:54

Pace was a bit uneven - was a bit gutted Eddie died, though I knew it was a possibility. Eddie reminded me so much of friends I used to sometimes do role playing games with at school - metallers who some other kids were a bit scared of but were actually real pussycats and like Eddie, in a pinch are far more likely to do the right thing and care about others than your average 'popular' type. I had assumed this was going to tie things up, so was a bit of a let down that it didn't.

DeadButDelicious · 02/07/2022 21:05

I knew I forgot something! Jason! He was horrible. Glad he didn't make it. Rotten bugger.

Also Erica is a boss. Kick him Erica! Kick him right in the nards!

Lucas, bless his heart! I really liked him this season.

Argyle! Love Argyle! He reminded of so many lovable stoners I've met. Bless him.

Echobelly · 02/07/2022 21:21

I am glad Jason was got, although I'd hoped he'd see Eddie's character redeemed (or even that Eddie might save him) and understand hiw wrong he'd been.

savehannah · 02/07/2022 21:28

I found it a bit strange that apart from Dustin we didn't see the rest of the gang being distraught about Eddie. Previously they had all been trying to help him when he was hiding in the barn, and Mike, Lucas and Erica both played with Hellfire so they knew him well.

savehannah · 02/07/2022 21:29

Loved Hopper and El's reunion though

Pleasecreateausername · 02/07/2022 21:29

Just finished it! Wow! The soundtrack is absolutely amazing. Sad about Eddie! I was absolutely convinced Steve was going to die. Glad he didn't though.

Ps I think Max must be dead 😭. El couldn't find her and also Hawkins became part of the upside down in the end - that must mean that Vecna's plan was complete/max died, surely?

So excited for season 5, I'm glad that Vecna is the 'big boss' and that this story line continues!

Pleasecreateausername · 02/07/2022 21:32

Also, didn't El discover other children with powers in season 2, do you think they will be part of the resolve? Can't fully remember if it was just 008 or if there were more.

savehannah · 02/07/2022 21:38

Also I thought it was a bit like playing "who's going to die" when all the different storylines had people in mortal danger.

And, I didn't like the fact that the Dustin and Eddie death scene was too similar to the Lucas and Max "death" scene.

prettycolours · 02/07/2022 21:53

I really enjoyed the finale but the ending bit where everyone was back in Hawkins did feel a bit off. It was odd how some characters didn't seem to react on-screen to the death/near death of other characters but I think that's just because there's too many characters in general.

I knew Eddie was a goner, it was so obvious. I'll miss him though. The actor really brought a spark to the role.

I think Noah Schnapp as Will has been absolutely outstanding this season despite relatively little screen time. The scene in the back of the van with Mike was heart-wrenching but Jonathan being there for him afterwards in the pizza kitchen was lovely. Poor boy, I just want him to be happy for change!

Glad Murray made it back alive, I didn't expect him to for some reason.

I am a bit confused on the Vecna stuff (as usual) but from what I understand he was using the swirly consciousness thing in the upside down to create the mindflayer etc. Like it was there before he was but he gave it the form it took and controlled it? I think...

FluffingMarvellous · 02/07/2022 22:00

Unpopular I know, but I actually found the series finale really slow and cliche. I love the show but thought that episode was some of the worst acting and writing of the entire programme.

The2Omicronnies · 02/07/2022 22:14

The bit that didn’t make sense to me was that the newsreader on the Wheeler TV announced they still believed the murders of Chrissy etc were down to the members of Hellfire (with Eddie being the ringleader, presumed dead)….and yet, Dustin, Lucas, Mike etc were all left to carry on as normal with no police interrogation?!

Argyle made this series for me; absolutely wonderful character.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 02/07/2022 22:23

Love how Steve was folding clothes, with the towel on his shoulder, watching robin... it was like a proud dad. That did make me chuckle after the conversation he’d had with Nancy 😏

OP posts:
Pleasecreateausername · 02/07/2022 22:25

That's how I understood it too @prettycolours

Also, did I miss something - did we find out who the upside down particles went into in Russia or will that come up again?

lljkk · 02/07/2022 22:37

What the Fk were Russians doing in the lab? Anyone know? Breeding the beasties??

What would Nancy's fave song be? DH said Cyndi Laupner or Duran Duran. Any advances on that?

We refer to Papa as Dr. ChildAbuser in this house.
Max is flat for me, sorry, I want to like & admire her but... just don't care; I would have kept Eddie over her, and I didn't even like Eddie partic.
Murray is irritating, could disappear any time except at least he keeps surprising me.
Nancy is bad ass though. I love seeing her with a shotgun.
I'm slightly gutted that Steve is everyone else's character. How dare they, i want him to be my special fave!! I think Robin could be 2nd fave.
I want Enzo to survive, too.

I haven't watched the last episode, just read the spoilers at length, how bad is that? I could tell it was just building up to a giant battle scene, and didn't see I'd enjoy that.

ps: Spotify got my playlist bad, I loathe a few of those songs they suggested.
