The Wiki entry for Grant doesn't shed any light really but it could be one of any number of things - the entry is a huge list of wrong doings 😂 There doesn't seem to be a "final thing" listed.

Wasn't there some beef with Phil and Grant over Peggy's death? Some sort of assisted suicide type story rings a bell? One said ok and the other went batshit about it can't remember the details though

I was also horrified at the return of Alfie (particularly how it was weirdly shoe-horned in since the last we heard he was dead).

My guess is it was just a plot point to demonstrate how besotted Kat and her kids are with Phil so that the inevitable (not a spoiler I've not watched ahead btw) love triangle (Phil/Kat/Shazza) is more heart-wrenching, despite there being absolutely zero chemistry between Phil and Kat, their kissing scenes actually make me cringe!

They rarely show or we hear of a character without them coming back in it soon after
