Stranger Things S4 - wtf!

GoodnightRain · 28/05/2022 21:04

Just watched E1 of S4.

Is it just me or has the horror really amped up?
I thought S1 was pretty dark and played on my mind a lot - but then it seemed to calm down a lot. I didn't find S2 and S3 scary at all. But wow, that was something else. I didn't want to sleep for a couple of weeks anyway...

I didn't like the monster. The violence seemed a bit gratuitous. Will carry on watching it and see what happens.

GoodnightRain · 28/05/2022 21:20

Same here. I am usually a bit too sensitive to watch horror genres but could cope with Stranger Things. Feels like they've made a conscious decision to ramp it up though and it came out of nowhere at the end of the episode - traumatised!

Yeah definitely a lot more gore and horror than before. Not loving it as much tbh, and I want El to get her power back Sad

Watching it with my teens as with the last series but my Dd is quite sensitive and isn’t enjoying it at all.

GoodnightRain · 28/05/2022 21:42

Ah does it remain like that/get worse? Only done E1 so far.

I just said the same thing to DH - and I only saw the trailer!!! 😱😱😱

StarCourt · 28/05/2022 21:46

Binge watched all 7 episodes yesterday

Afterfire · 28/05/2022 21:47

We said exactly the same thing. Really different league to the rest of it!

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 28/05/2022 21:50

I've binge watched, but had to stop as the treatment of one central character has felt unnecessarily cruel and I'm taking a break before finishing it because I have to.
The Max - Kate Bush scenes really got to me too. It's definitely more draining than other seasons

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 28/05/2022 22:11

I’m finding it a bit tough going this time as I usually hate horrors as I’m super Sean’s seem to have nightmares after (even at 49 lol) but was ok with the previous seasons but am sticking with season 4 as my 14 yr old dd loves it and we’ve always watched them together. I’ll just have to squeeze my eyes shut at the scary bits!

GoodnightRain · 29/05/2022 19:58

Glad it's not just me who thinks this.

I think I will do the same @RedorangeyellowBLACK!

that should have read ‘super sensitive’!! No idea who Sean is lol!

ineedsun · 29/05/2022 20:16

I loved it! Just on the second watch it with DS (he’s 18 I’m not a terrible parent). Currently trying to work out what my favourite song is…

GoodnightRain · 29/05/2022 20:21

@RedorangeyellowBLACK I thought it might be the name of the new monster 🤣.

@ineedsun it's definitely shaping up to have a great soundtrack after just watching the first episode!

The first episode is definitely a bit brutal, but the plot is so good - I would keep going!

I really like this style of almost old fashioned horror though. I wouldn't consider showing it to my sensitive teen.

WobblyLondoner · 29/05/2022 23:52

Oh god, just watched episode 1 (a lot of it behind my hands; I am a bit of a wuss). The troubled cheerleader at the end - she and her family figured in a previous series didn't they?

Poor El. My heart broke a little watching that scene outside the school.

ineedsun · 30/05/2022 11:40

Reminds me a bit of It (as in the Stephen King novel). The way that human behaviour is quite horrific in itself even without the monsters.

Pinkbonbon · 30/05/2022 16:46

I actually think it's my fave season so far I like a good horror though. Thought last season was a bit shit so I almost didn't watch again. So glad I did.

I do think the way they were the deaths were a bit much though. But it's no Glen from walking dead so I think I'm pretty much desensitised to horror gore on tv these days lol.

So long as they don't kill Steve!

stillherenow · 30/05/2022 16:54

I'm pretty sensitive and can't watch horror but my god I'm LOVING this series. Me and DD are having a bit of a binge on it today

stillherenow · 30/05/2022 16:55

My dd is 13 and completely fine with it - but she's a lot tougher than me !

StarCourt · 30/05/2022 16:56

My DD13 loved Stranger Things and got me into it

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 30/05/2022 16:58

Absolutely brilliant-
DD (again not bad parent she is 21) and I both binged and are spending far too much time speculating...

Loving the 80's references

Sulusu · 30/05/2022 16:58

It's the fact that so much of the violence is done to young children, that really bothered me and felt very over the top and unnecessary.

BadWolf2022 · 30/05/2022 17:02

It's gotten darker each season. I love it. It's definitely not a kids show.

GoodnightRain · 30/05/2022 18:29

Going in for episode 2 tonight! Got a toddler and a baby so my bingeing days are being me currently 😭.

@Pinkbonbon this is true - Negan takes gold!

Glad to hear this tbh! Enjoyed 2 & 3 but missed the peril a bit. Might start watching it tonight.
