Stranger Things S4 - wtf!

Just watched E1 of S4.

Is it just me or has the horror really amped up?
I thought S1 was pretty dark and played on my mind a lot - but then it seemed to calm down a lot. I didn't find S2 and S3 scary at all. But wow, that was something else. I didn't want to sleep for a couple of weeks anyway...

By the way, that horrific scene at the start. Was that a flashback to El when she was younger? Or a different child?

@WobblyLondoner of E1? Where they are in the place where they did experiments on the children? That was El who killed everyone with her powers.

I know the scenes with that poor boy were horrifying (I can't really watch them) but I keep thinking about El belting that awful girl with the roller skate. Nightmare.

And such a great cast. Brilliant.

Season 5 is. Apparently they're going to pitch a spin off to Netflix and only the duffer brothers and Finn wolfhard (apparently he guessed what it is) know what it is. It was on an interview that I heard

They are amazing aren't they? I'm really enjoying the different combinations of the characters and how each new scene is a totally different vibe, if that makes sense?

I binged the lot on Saturday. Horror films make me laugh. They've really ramped up the cgi in this, you can tell the budget is bigger.

Volume 2 of Season 4 is out in july. Cannot wait!

Watch out for the guy who played freddy Krueger in one of the episodes.

It was brilliant, soooo much better than series 3. I also thought that was a bag of shite and almost didn't bother with S4. Very glad I did.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why everyone is finding season 4 more of a horrorfest than the previous three - I thought seasons 1-3 were every bit as horror festy as season 4. I had to sleep with the light on after season 1!! Up to this point we've had Will vomiting up an evil slug of doom, poor dead eyed Barbara in the horrible other inbetween place, Billy being impaled by a giant pepperami, exploding rats, the Demogorgan stalking Hawkins at night, and the worst bit for me - Sean Astin being eaten alive by Demodogs at the lab. I can't see season 4 as more horrific than all of that.

Absolutely loving it. Binged it all on the weekend and really enjoyed the processing of the characters - so many times I sat there think ‘no!’. The last (current) episode was great and brought together all the fears and sadness I had accumulated for some of the characters and then...well. I won’t say. But roll on July!

Agree that the horror felt very 18plus to me. In saying that though I am now rewatching it with my youngest (mid teen). I had a long discussion with her, she wanted to go ahead with it but then when we reached the point where I said “close your eyes now!” she laughed at me incredulously. She said it was no worse than the earlier episodes!

She is going through the same emotional waves I did with the characters. I think she’s the right age for it, or at least she has the emotional maturity for it. She is seeing a lot of different things go on with both her peers and herself and I think this will help her understand the ups and downs we go through in life a lot more. If that makes sense. She loved it anyway.

It’s so scary but so so good! My DH and I binged through it in a week. I had to sleep with the light on though after about episode 3. It’s awful what happens to the little kids. Have to remind myself it’s just a show!

Yes, I love that Jaqen Hghar/Tom Wlaschiha was in it. I found the rescue Hopper scenes very entertaining.

Absolutely loving it. I rewatched season 3 to get me in the groove and this is so much better.

Once I'd got over the shock of the increased graphicness and the fact that the were all a bunch of teenagers, it's been brilliant.

Reminds me a bit of It (as in the Stephen King novel). The way that human behaviour is quite horrific in itself even without the monsters.

Absolutely LOVED this series. The final episode blew my mind. Roll on July, May have to rewatch from the very first episode before that to look for any hidden clues.
