I can't see another thread.
I've watched 3 episodes, very enjoyable, quite slow, love the music.

I think that's a Sally Rooney thing too. Weird endings leaving everyone going 'huh?'. NP ending wasn't great.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/05/2022 12:24

What didn't come across in the series of NP was the man character wasn't just being an absolute arse, he was crippled with self doubt and shyness, the series didn't portray that at all which made it confusing. In the book it made more sense.

I wonder if something has been missed out of the CWF drama as everyone is just really unlikable and moody!

PartyPlan · 18/05/2022 13:23

I’m finding it quite dull and slow too. Frances is boring me to tears, Bobby just comes across as arrogant.

Enjoyallthewine · 18/05/2022 20:32

Watched it all, really drew me in from the beginning. IMO very well done, I enjoyed NP too, so look fwd to more.

JoanWilderbeast · 18/05/2022 20:34

The lead female and male totally miscast, IMHO. I read the book and annoying and self involved and self sabotaging and self drama creating as the lead female character was, in my head she looked 'indie cool' in some way.

Enjoyallthewine · 18/05/2022 20:40

JoanWilderbeast That’s interesting. Maybe it’s just as well I haven’t read the book.

Also Francis was much more dry and funny, she was so drippy in this!

bricko · 18/05/2022 21:41

I thought everyone was unlikeable in the book too though, and the ending is so bleak.

mewkins · 19/05/2022 10:24

It is a few years since I read the book (and it can't have made much of an impression as don't remember what happened) but I'm enjoying watching this in a similar way to sitting in a cafe watching people walk past. Not much happens but it is strangely soothing. I really like the actress playing Francis. She says very little but gets the awkwardness spot on. I wonder why this got so many episodes when so little happens though, when other adaptations are squeezed into 4.

AlwaysAWoman · 19/05/2022 22:31

Is Francis this dull in the book? There is zero chemistry or charisma unlike Normal People. I like the author wife, at least she has something about her

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/05/2022 23:48

For someone so sulky she does pretty well snagging Bobbi and writer's husband, she barely strings a sentence together ffs.

Pennox · 20/05/2022 00:26

I've watched the first 2 episodes and very disappointed. It's so slow and boring and the actors are Muscat's and have zero chemistry. Loved Normal People but don't think I'll.fontinue watching it.

LadyEloise1 · 20/05/2022 23:54

I've watched the first two episodes. It's dull and boring.
I didn't get the hype over Normal People either.

Palmfrond · 21/05/2022 10:08

Wawa-weewa! Tried watching this last night, but after about 20 minutes was presented with the following uncomfortable question;
is this-
a) An intentionally twisted “The Office” meets “Black Mirror” exegesis of all that is most excruciatingly cringeworthy and crashingly dull about the current iteration of Western culture?
Or-
b) An unintentional but authentic exegesis of all that is most excruciatingly
cringeworthy and crashingly dull about the current iteration of Western culture?

I mulled it over for about three seconds and decided that from the viewers point of view the outcome would be essentially the same, so I turned it off.

I did watch the other one, Boring People or whatever it was called, and tbh did enjoy it, but not as much as I enjoyed the fantasy of chucking both weepy protagonists headfirst down a well.

LadyEloise1 · 21/05/2022 20:35

"Boring People"
Love it @Palmfrond 😂

EachandEveryone · 22/05/2022 17:24

Im doing nothing this afternoon is it worth watching? I hated the book but my twentysomething friends loved it. I like Jemima Kirke and havent seen her in anything since Girls so thats what's drawing me to it.

AnyFucker · 22/05/2022 17:57

Don’t bother. You’d be better watching paint dry.

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2022 17:59

Watch the first episode. it's only half an hour, and see what you think.

Pomelo1980 · 22/05/2022 18:23

What a load of tosh

swindo · 22/05/2022 18:34

Jemima Kirke is the best thing in it.

DoubleCarbs4Life · 23/05/2022 20:51

God I’m on episode 5 as I keep thinking ‘this has got to get better’. It’s SO dull and the characters are so unlikeable and boring.
Please tell me there’s an exciting twist coming up!

You are doing so well! Nearly half way there. Grin

lizziebest · 23/05/2022 21:03

I don't think they got Frances right. She is so dull on the show. In the book she is outwardly aloof and keeps Nick on his toes a bit. Inwardly, very insecure and self loathing. She is dull and bordering on the simple on the show. Wrong casting, awful dialogue and generally crap!

Frogsonglue · 23/05/2022 21:11

I seem to be alone in really liking this. And really liking Frances, she's so vulnerable and yet self-contained too. I want a happy ending for her but I sense she isn't going to get one...
Are we supposed to be impressed by Bobbi though? She's vile.

Self contained? Self centered more like 😂
