How am I gonna sleep after all this excitement!

NotAdultingToday · 15/05/2022 00:34

@RedToothBrush thats a horrible thought though it did cross my mind too. I hope they are at peace and rebuilding and the singers are there to perform next year

Bikeybikeface · 15/05/2022 00:34

I could have done with a few less ballads and a few more bangers but this is one Eurovision I won’t forget.

BBC News saying voting irregularities being investigated. Wonder if that's telephone systems being jammed?

There was a Mumsnetter in Sweden on the previous thread saying none of the voting methods were working for her DS who was trying to vote.

BBC NEWS

Some voting irregularities are being investigated by Eurovision...

Is this about Serbia? I can’t work out how they had such a massive leap in the public vote

RedToothBrush · 15/05/2022 00:36

Irregular in six countries

DH and I loved Serbia's performance. It was properly dramatic and different, plus being right at the end let it make a big impression. Or if you were totally drunk by the end it would be the only one you'd remember. It was a huge leap admittedly. But there's always a dark horse.

I think something was amiss with Serbia, especially with their lovely pro Russia rally back in April. I imagine something was amiss, let's be honest the song was shit 🤣

luciatrope · 15/05/2022 00:40

Serbia was in my Top 5.

PrinzessinCressida · 15/05/2022 00:41

Well that was a fecking rollercoaster. I'm far too wired to sleep!

I am both wired and wiped.

I will probably fall asleep tying.

Good night!

I loved Serbia too.

Also Moldova.

It was awesome, wasn't it? Sam is the moral winner - we couldn't begrudge the Ukrainians the win, poor buggers, could we?

Tralalalalalala50 · 15/05/2022 00:47

I’m in the U.K. and couldn’t vote on mobile, kept trying but wouldn’t work

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 15/05/2022 00:47

I’m far too invested in this (and too wired to sleeep) apparently if the winning country can’t host then one of the big 5 contributors are asked to. Spain have offered in the event of a Ukrainian win but it’s got to be us now surely?!

inews.co.uk/culture/television/ukraine-will-host-eurovision-2023-where-next-song-contest-kalush-orchestra-win-final-1630165

Zelensky talks about “one day” hosting - surely they’ve not got the infrastructure

Antarcticant · 15/05/2022 00:48

Just got it - Polish song - reminiscent of Wicked Games (Chris Isaac). That's why the UK public gave it dix points.

DyingForACuppa · 15/05/2022 00:48

I’m going to say it we all know Ukraine didn’t win based on their song…even the crowd look subdued. Disappointing.

The Ukraine won because in pretty much every country more people voted for them than anyone else. Which is pretty wonderful, if your ask me.

wonderstuff · 15/05/2022 00:48

Perfect result I think. Putin seems to have united Europe, which I very much doubt was his plan. Wish all the luck in the world to those young men who I imagine are now having to return to fight. The situation is so heartbreaking, no one is really winning are they!

Sam seems lovely and did a great job, not my taste but I’m obviously in the minority! I thought the overall standard was really high this year, I enjoyed lots of them.

forinborin · 15/05/2022 00:49

Redistribute Ukraine's 631 points and the outcome could have been very different.
Hey, don't take the whole 631 points from us Grin
It probably wasn't the best song in the world, but still worth a tenner or so!

I couldn’t vote on my mobile but dh could on his, we’re on different networks so I’m thinking some had more capacity? I just got engaged tone.

Antarcticant · 15/05/2022 00:57

The Polish song is actually the love-child of Wicked Game (Chris Isaac) and Mad World (Tears for Fears) which is bloody brilliant!

ilovesooty · 15/05/2022 00:59

UnintentionallyRidiculous · 15/05/2022 00:13

Fantastic result. Can we kick Australia out now please? They shouldn't be in it anyway. We had points from everyone except Australia.

Greece and (I think) Serbia gave us no points.

prh47bridge · 15/05/2022 01:08

ChitChatChatter · 14/05/2022 23:47

How are they working out these points? Percentage basis? Of what? <overly invested>

Same as the jury vote. Each country gives 12 votes to the song with the most telephone votes in that country, 10 to the song finishing second and so on. So the most any country can get in the telephone vote is 468 votes (39 * 12 - remember that you can't vote for your own country).

Vicktorius · 15/05/2022 01:12

scruffanddodge · 15/05/2022 00:16

The public vote is their top 10 songs which are awarded points 1-8, 10 and 12.

if 40 countries voted their top song as Ukraine the max they could have been awarded is 480 points. They got 460 or so which means every county pretty much gave them 12 points.

Don’t forget it’s out of 39 countries, so highest score would be 468. They got 439 points I think it was, so literally 10 or 12 points by everyone!

MatildaJayne · 15/05/2022 01:13

eurovisionworld.com/eurovision/2022#ukraine

This website breaks down the jury and public votes by country. 28 of the countries gave Ukraine 12 points in the public vote and a further 8 gave them 10 points. That’s a brilliant show of support. Even Serbia which is quite pro Russian gave them 7 points.
