So. Yep, tonight confirms it’s political. Which is fine we deserve it. Fuck 🤢’in!

Tbf, Ukraine was the main(/ only?) political vote this year, and even here most people seem to agree with it.
Otherwise, how come Serbia wasn't last? Even their neighbours are appealed by their actions.

The UK had the best song, and would have won it under normal circumstances (nothing to do with politics, the UK is still not very popular abroad)

Igotjelly · 15/05/2022 00:12

We also shouldn’t underestimate that our very public support of Ukraine is likely to have also pushed our votes up…..

Mother Stephania Stephania mother
The field is blooming, but her hair is getting grey
Mother, sing me the lullaby
I want to hear your dear word
She was rocking me as a baby, she gave me a rhythm,
And you can‘t take willpower from me, as I got it from her
I think she knew more than King Solomon.
I‘ll always find my way home, even if all roads are destroyed
She wouldn‘t wake me up even if there was a storm outside
Or if there was a storm between her and grandma,
She trusted me over everyone else
Even when she was tired, she just kept rocking me
Lully-lully-lullaby
Mother Stephania Stephania mother
The field is blooming, but her hair is getting grey
Mother, sing me the lullaby
I want to hear your dear word
I‘m not a kid anymore, but she will always treat me like one
I‘m not a kid anymore, but she keeps worrying about me, anytime I‘m out
Mother, you are still young. If I don‘t appreciate your kindness, I‘m moving towards a dead-end
But my love for you has no end.
Mother Stephania Stephania mother
The field is blooming, but her hair is getting grey
Mother, sing me the lullaby
I want to hear your dear word

Yes so I’m actually fascinated that we came second. We had a wonderful song, but so did some others who came low like Azerbaijan, and as we all know Eurovision is 90% political, it’s a political weathervane. So… Does this great result mean that Europe has forgiven us for Brexit? Are we all friends again? 🎉 🎈 🎉

Yep, they like us, they REALLY like us. Grin

Its about the singers Mum isn't it?

Yes about the singer’s mum Stephania. The lyrics are here (you have to scroll down)

CrazyFishLady · 15/05/2022 00:13

Perfect result.

I’m so happy we beat the arse jigglers but wanted Ukraine to win. I genuinely liked their song. I thought I was catchy and the dc loved it (in joint place with the wolf banana one).

nocoolnamesleft · 15/05/2022 00:13

Right result. The people of Europe did the right thing.

AdaColeman · 15/05/2022 00:13

Totally FAB thread everyone!! 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦

UnintentionallyRidiculous · 15/05/2022 00:13

Fantastic result. Can we kick Australia out now please? They shouldn't be in it anyway. We had points from everyone except Australia.

ATeamAmy · 15/05/2022 00:13

I dunno dude, we all thought Russia would beat them in a couple of days and now they’re kicking Russia round the block.

I reckon Eurovision there in a year could be epic.

Totally agree, the Ukrainians are hopefully going to have an epic victory against Russia. However, even if they win, will they have the infrastructure in tact to be able to host a big International event? I sincerely hope so, but if they can't do it, it would be pretty amazing if the UK offered to help.

Anyway, congrats Ukraine. Song wasn't half bad.

Congrats also to Sam. Seems like a lovely bloke, great song, and hopefully future successes for him.

Binglebong · 15/05/2022 00:13

Still don't like the song but if you change mother to motherland the lyrics make you wonder when it was written...
#NoPoliticsInEurovision

Delighted we gave them 12 points and Poland, who are doing so much, got ten. I dislike the politics but as a big fuck you to Putin I'm happy. I hope the citizens feel the love.

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/05/2022 00:13

Ukraine didnt get a sympathy or pity vote.Hmm They got the love and support vote.💞💞💞

Brilliant result tonight. Eurovision doing what it does best.😁😁😁❤

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 15/05/2022 00:14

I see that global warming hasn't made the UK's grapes any less sour.

trtt · 15/05/2022 00:14

I don't think Ukraine winning was political, if you look they have had very strong acts especially last year when they were favourites.

Whatalovelydaffodil · 15/05/2022 00:14

Igotjelly · 15/05/2022 00:12

We also shouldn’t underestimate that our very public support of Ukraine is likely to have also pushed our votes up…..

Lots of countries support Ukraine.

DysonSphere · 15/05/2022 00:14

RedToothBrush · 15/05/2022 00:04

This changes everything for the UK and Eurovision. It proves we CAN win, if we have a good song.

We CAN NOT blame our shit score on political voting.

Absolutely!

Iamnotokifyouarenotok · 15/05/2022 00:14

Well done everyone for giving Fucktin the middle finger ! Very happy with that vote …Sam you were brilliant …well done .

SoggyPaper · 15/05/2022 00:14

Igotjelly · 15/05/2022 00:10

So many bitter posts. As others have said some things matter more than a song contest. It’s a sign of Europe pulling together and I’ll take it 🇺🇦

I doubt any of the other contestants actually wanted to win over Ukraine. I mean, they would want to win. But they obviously realise the politics. Somehow beating Ukraine right now would have been horribly uncomfortable for them.

even if no one is saying it publicly, and the official result says otherwise, 2nd place was winning Eurovision as a song contest this year. So that’s a great result for the uk.

boys3 · 15/05/2022 00:15

Sam's an absolute credit.

and 12 pts for us from France!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jellykat · 15/05/2022 00:15

'I'll always find my way home, even if all roads are destroyed'
I read the song was written before the war started.. if so, thats some weird shit.

WobblyLondoner · 15/05/2022 00:15

Oscarthedog · 15/05/2022 00:11

Every year we get nul points and we people accuse us of sending a crap song. Today's vote shows that it was always political. And I'm sure Vlad doesn't give a crap that Ukraine won so not sure what the vote was supposed to achieve.

That makes zero sense, can you expand?

JackieWeaver101 · 15/05/2022 00:15

I think Australia was the only country not to vote for the UK.

At least, the UK received 12 points from Germany and France.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 15/05/2022 00:16

But don’t you see what this means - it IS possible for the UK to win Eurovision - and we haven’t felt like that for A LONG TIME
