It's not really that strange. Lots of young people don't have life insurance, especially as she didn't work much because he didn't like it.

I have a vague memory of Mitch and Bailey being given the flat downstairs when Bailey's mum died but I could have imagined that!
Me too, though I think it was Bailey and her DM before Tiffany and Keegan moved into the flat.

I know a lot of people don't have life insurance but he's a lawyer/solicitor, the type of person who would have life insurance for both adults.

I didn't know this, years ago you had to take out life insurance if you borrowed money for a mortgage. I am sure this was the case years ago? I know we did.
I still have life insurance, although it is a con really ( like most insurances are to be fair !)

I think the house that Karen's maisonette and Ted's flat is owned by the Council. Both tenants were moved there when a local council estate was being demolished if I remember.
When Ted left, Keegan and Tiffany squatted. When they were found out, I think it went to Bailey's mum, possibly on appeal to the council as it meant that Bailey/Mitch/Karen could care for her. Presumably vacant since then, it certainly looked unoccupied.
I'm surprised that any London borough would leave a perfectly serviceable 1 bed flat sitting there empty.

I think you have to take it out so bank knows you can afford mortgage but assume many cancel it

I can't believe Jean, who is always so straight up and honest, is actually letting a 10 year old kid take the rap for her thieving. Has she stopped taking her meds or something?

It is out of character for Jean , even if she is off her medication :(
I don't like this story line at all.
She loves children ( usually ) and she used to be nice.

I agree totally out of character for Jean. They all seem to be living rent free at Phils so she will have her wages at least. Why would she need £400 like that. The old Jean might borrowed if really stuck but then worked extra shifts pay it back and then “found it” down the side of a chair week later.

Really don’t see why need all Slatters in house together for storylines. Work just as well if Stacey and tribe had own place.

Hope Keegan is staying not going off to find himself.
