Which means we don’t discuss an episode till it’s been on tv

After that it’s fair game

Anyway

When a terrorist campaign threatens the capital over the summer, bomb disposal experts Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) and Joel Nutkins (Adrian Lester) are at the forefront of urgent efforts.

They discover a potiental bomb factory in a London housing estate

( whispers but is filmed near to blondesland)

Looks good

Love both Vicky and Adrian as actors

I found her funny little pony tail too distracting.

It seemed a bit a clunky and amateurish. Surely the big white van would have been the first vehicle they checked 🙄.

FurbleSocks · 24/01/2022 14:37

DH asked why she had the hairstyle of a footballer 🙈

viques · 24/01/2022 14:47

@sashagabadon

Adrian is deffo dead. They were literally talking about him leaving his job for his family 2 mins before. Always a clue to imminent horrific death in said job Grin
He will be back though, there were too many reminiscent memories being hinted at. Mercurio does like backstory flashbacks, and as others have remarked, there fortunately aren’t actually that many current bomb attacks in London to maintain a series so a few filling in the gap episodes will pad things out nicely.

(But if I was a member of the cast I wouldn’t be looking to upgrade my car and my house just yet, I can’t see series 2 on the horizon.)

So she looks different from her character in LoD.

One would have thought

It was a big van

I think it'll shape up nicely. Links to terrorism, Afghanistan and some post Al Qaeda goings-on would be good.

NoisyBrain · 24/01/2022 18:51

As long-time LoD watchers, DP and I were waiting all episode for a main character to get bumped off Grin

Laughing hard at all the light switch comments.

I'll watch ep 2, but it'll need to step up a gear to keep me interested. The action felt really stilted at times and I don't think it was down to the actors.

Papergirl1968 · 24/01/2022 20:29

Just watched this. It was ok.
I was expecting a bomb to go off but still jumped out of my skin, as did the dog who was asleep next to me.
I thought Vicki was Adrian when she started moving in the aftermath. Turns out a white woman is easy to mistake for a black man when she's covered in dust! Blush
Vicky has my admiration though for being able to jump to her feet so nimbly when she's finished lying down looking under vehicles. I'd have to roll over onto my knees, and then hold on to something for support to push myself up - supple I am not!

SueSaid · 24/01/2022 20:41

' Inwas expecting a bomb to go off but still jumped out of my skin'

Yes from their haplessness from the the start you just knew there was going to be an explosion it was not knowing when that gave a bit or suspense.

The terrorists went to a lot of trouble didn't they, the lady and child in the bed, the toilet firework, the man in the boot with the suicide vest. All seemed a bit overly complex why not just blow the van in a crowded area? even as the cordon was bizarrely taken down too early there can't have been that many casualties.

Pmsl. Me too

And she got down quickly into a press up position as well

As soon as he said I love you. Just not in bits I thought he's a goner , her best mate , his broken marriage , then he said she's using her 9 lives and some of his now ... and didn't he die by bomb explosion years back in homeland too :(
I love Adrian Lester

thegreylady · 24/01/2022 22:55

We loved it. There has been so little of anything worth watching lately.
We were waiting for an explosion from the start, can’t believe Adrian agreed to a single episode though.

ginghamstarfish · 24/01/2022 23:34

A bit disappointing that these two 'experts' were so clearly lacking in their training, and it was obvious that there was going to be a bomb they'd missed.

WeAreTheHeroes · 25/01/2022 08:01

I mean I'll watch the next episode, but there was too much which seemed unrealistic. Why were the public unruly like that? I know it was supposedly hot, but if I thought there was a bomb in my building, I'd be in the next town, not watching and getting arsey when asked to move back.

The boyfriend would surely have had first aid training and once he'd established Lana was okay would check on Ade? Can't remember his character's name.

The Avanti advert is by the same people who made the AA ad with the dog.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2022 11:35

@WeAreTheHeroes mn do like animals ads 😂

I enjoyed it, in the way of Sunday drama which takes your mind of your own work by watching things which are much more stressful!
I reckon Vicky McL does more than her fair share of burpees, watching her.
Good point Janiie, they did go to a lot of trouble.

claireymrsd · 25/01/2022 12:54

@mum2jakie

Lol - "We've just got one left to check..." "Yeah, release the cordon then..." Hmm, pretty sure the process is a little more robust than that!!!
I work for the emergency services and this bit made me laugh. In my experience the cordon would never been lifted if there was still a plate check awaited on one vehicle!
WeAreTheHeroes · 25/01/2022 13:01

I found several aspects of it unrealistic. Vigil was a Jed Mercurio and I found that a disappointment - no tension, etc. Mind you I have been on a nuclear sub so maybe I'd have thought differently if I hadn't.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2022 13:10

But we do love a bit of jed

@Popfan

I enjoyed it and actually gasped when the bomb went off Grin
I enjoyed it too.

Watching it on a streaming service in Australia so no ads which might help.

Knew there would be another bomb somewhere they hadn’t found. It was all too much ‘that was close, using up you’re nine lives aren’t you’ talk. Plus in hindsight that talk by Joel of work vs family was a bit foreshadowing really.

Weren’t they council flats? I mean if so the people that live there are uneducated and all hate the Police. Just kidding of course but council flat dwellers do tend to be a bit stereotyped.
Sittinginthesand · 26/01/2022 06:33

I did jump at the end! The ads really spoil the tension though. We had to do quite a lot of commentary, and the flats with stairs was very interesting. DH thinks the nervous guy is the bomber, he didn’t put the jammer on properly. I thought it was a waste of an Adrian Lester. VM kept doing a weird semi snarl think with her lip, I guess to have a different face from Kate in LoD. 6/10

Sittinginthesand · 26/01/2022 06:40

It reminded us of Ultimate Force (aka Ultimate Farce). Quite engaging, a bit silly, no brain power required.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/01/2022 07:46

@bluetongue - I did wonder if a thread of the story which explained the aggro with the police had been dropped in the editing to focus more on the bomb squad.
