As above , SPOILER thread for the new drama which started yesterday on bbc one with Jamie Dornan.

I'm on episode four and it is brilliant.
I just wish he could change that awful t shirt.

OP posts:

The actress who played Helen is in a drama of a true story on Netflix called Unbelievable. She's really good in that too. I should add it's about a young woman who was raped and not believed by the police.

minmooch · 05/01/2022 15:43

Only me then who thought it was crap? Enjoyed the first 4 episodes and then it was ridiculous.

Habbyhadno · 05/01/2022 22:48

I genuinely loved the fact that there was a spark between Helen and Elliott, I was stewing the first few episodes saying to DH 'if she was skinny they'd have had sex by now, so why is it that we're supposed to think that would never happen because she isn't the stereotype we're used to seeing in dramas?' so I was genuinely pleased that the connection between them was addressed at the end. Not sure on the whole series though, watchable but I'm not sure if I'd bother with a S2, but really loved the chemistry between the main two.

Starryskiesinthesky · 06/01/2022 22:28

I just finished it tonight and really loved it. Found episode 5 a bit weird though and probably could have done with watching it again but cant be bothered. Think it was a good way of explaining things though.

Ethan was such a horrible guy its hard to believe she would be with him and poor Lemon - he didnt deserve to go like that!

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/01/2022 21:18

Just finished this tonight, and really enjoyed it!

I loved how they almost made a point of showcasing the odd little awkward moments Grin

CeleriacOfTheNight · 07/01/2022 21:38

Also, I got the impression that Luci/Victoria hadn't actually known how much of a baddie he was either. I'm not sure if that's right or not?

Samcro · 08/01/2022 08:53

finished it last night.
loved it. sad that elliot was a baddie.
So glad helen told her awful bloke to do one.
love that actress saw her in some random rom com, she "sang" a lot of opera.
wonder if there will be series 2.

Flashinggreen · 08/01/2022 12:08

Just finished it and thought it was really good, liked the humour, didn’t like episode 5 with the hallucinations, needed not to over think how he got off and logistics of things. I would recommend it.

RevolvingPivot · 08/01/2022 21:11

Just finished. Before the Lena character I thought this all happened while he was in a coma and non of it was real.

After the second crash I though no it must be real.

Fedupsotired · 08/01/2022 22:51

Dh and I really enjoyed it. Made a real change from the usual dramas and I liked the LSD episode where we could see loads of the back story, really clever

Adventsquirrel · 09/01/2022 09:10

I loved eps 1-4. Think Helen has a beautiful face and it's not unbelievable that they would have kissed. I was really disappointed that he turned out to be a bad guy, the story Lena told was horrific.

SunnyAgain · 10/01/2022 07:36

When Elliot and Helen were in the diner near the end, trying to buy time, and Helen asked Elliot to think of something to ask the police for, that he really wanted, I thought he
was going to say clean clothes 😂

I enjoyed it although found it taking unexpected directions - thought it become more brutal than I’d anticipated. It was cleverly done though I had to overlook a few instances where things seemed very unlikely.

Smallkeys · 10/01/2022 07:42

I agree with previous poster loved it till episode 4 and then it just went off the rails !

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 10/01/2022 07:45

Me too, episode 5 just completely bored me. The ending was too abrupt and not what I’d expected.
akissbeforebed · 10/01/2022 07:50

I thought he was going to ask for burritos!

KirkstallAbbess · 10/01/2022 07:51

Loved this and episode five in particular- so original.

OnaBegonia · 10/01/2022 08:03

Prepare yourself for Belfast, Jamie's new movie, and he's beardless in it!!

charliebear78 · 10/01/2022 09:59

Loved Jamie's accent, didn't like his beard.
Loved Helen would watch a spin off show with her solving crimes!
I thought the ending was good-i said after the burrito/dirty martini scene that it would end with Helen sending him a text of a burrito!(didn't expect him to be a baddie and be potentially dying however!)
I Loved how he left the millions to sue
Never seen fargo but its next on my list to watch

UglyModernWindows · 10/01/2022 09:59

We finished it last night, loved it! I really enjoyed episode 5 too, very creative and original. Yes there were plot holes but in this instance it didn't bother me, I guess because the whole thing was so surreal. I even enjoyed the comedy baddy.

I'm glad Helen and Elliot had a connection, TV series usually don't go there if the female is perceived less attractive than the male lead. I thought Helen was very pretty even if she wasn't a typical "hot chick". I agree with PP that there should be a spin off series for Helen Chambers solving cases. (Her name reminds me of "Deidre Chambers, what a coincidence! Grin )

I was also shocked about the drug muling revelations. I had to watch through my fingers when Lena asked him to come closer, I thought she'll rip his eyes out or something.

Jamie Dornan gets better with age Blush. I also fancied Kosta Blush. He had some of the funnies lines, re-usable straw anyone? Grin.

PP said they'll never want to travel to Australia now, I'm the opposite, I want to go! Desolate places have always drawn me in, not sure why but they do. One of my favourite books is A Town Like Alice where some of the events take place in the outback and been wanting to go ever since I've read it.

dottiedodah · 10/01/2022 11:08

Yes we really enjoyed it too! Like the look of the outback ,and the stone men were awesome! Lots of twists and turns .Sad ending ,as Elliott faces up to his past and as Helen says "He couldnt remember who he was.now he cant forget!" Off to see Belfast now !

LalalalalalaLand123 · 10/01/2022 11:13

I really enjoyed watching this series.
Great acting, filming, music, characters, quirky and interesting. I wasn't overly surprised that Elliot turned out to be a baddie - I mean he worked for an evil drug lord, so he was likely to be wrapped up in Bad Things, though it was sad that it was to the extent that it turned out to be. I'm hoping that the 'new' Elliot has a good heart.
The barrell was just horrific, that will give me nightmares.
I dread the endings to series like this, so often they are disappointing - but this one was ok - I am going to say that he's still alive and they've left it open for a series 2.....
Helen was brilliant. The cowboy was so scary (and how DID he get out of the well?). Jamie did a great job in his role. DI, Lemon, Victoria, Kosta, I could list everyone, all really good characters and actors. The poor deaf bloke. So many ended up dead!

HelloMist · 10/01/2022 20:57

I'm only up to episode 2, so won't read too much of the thread yet. But after a while I realised I knew Luci from somewhere: then it clicked - she was the young DC, Chloe, in the last series of line of duty!

anothername007 · 11/01/2022 08:59

Spoiler alert.

Episode 1-4 epic
5/6 WTF?
Ending irritating.
Had thought that Elliot was going to turn out to be an undercover cop. Would have been a better ending IMHO.

mrstea301 · 11/01/2022 17:16

I really enjoyed this, even up to the ambiguous ending, which I thought was reasonable. Elliot turned out to be such a baddie that I don't think they could give him a straightforward happy ending, it has to be left up in the air a bit, to give the hope of rehabilitation. Loved the relationship between him and Helen! And loved that she binned off her fiancé, he was so annoying - almost hoped that Billy had shot him! He was so bloody sanctimonious!

CoolShoeshine · 11/01/2022 23:07

I agree with people on here that the dust 4 episodes were awesome but it went sharply downhill in 5 and 6. I was so disappointed to find out that Elliott was bad, was so hoping he was a complete innocent who’d been set up by Lucie.
I didn’t really like Kosta or the brother, not sure how he’d become so powerful with his mental issues.
Did love Helen, she was amazing. Great, original character and super attractive face to match her personality. I was so rooting for a happy ending for them.
