As above , SPOILER thread for the new drama which started yesterday on bbc one with Jamie Dornan.

I'm on episode four and it is brilliant.
I just wish he could change that awful t shirt.

I'm still reeling from Elliot being a baddie after all :( I couldn't forgive that however good looking he was.
The men came out really badly in this , although Luci / Victoria spice girl wasn't that either good I know but she did try redemption at the end.
The accountant in the interview with the false beard was the helicopter pilot wasn't it ?
He was creepy.

Oh my days ... I LOVED this so much, even the ending was forgiven!

Him turning out to be a baddie was mental 😳 .. there could be a season 2 with him trying to find out why he became a 'baddie' 🤞🏻

gerardsbutler · 03/01/2022 20:11

I thoroughly enjoyed it. 5 episodes last night and just watched the final one. Surprised he was a baddie in the end but really hope the ending opens up a second series. Loved the dynamic with Helen although sorry that Victoria died.

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2022 20:18

I thought he was just the dodgy accountant for Kosta , not organizing the women doing the drug smuggling :(
That was a shocker and sad.

I thought for a moment she was his Mum with the scar ........ but the ages didn't tally .

waterlego · 03/01/2022 22:37

I thought she was his Mum too. Was really shocked by what Lena revealed about him. Seems like Helen was willing to accept that people can change, as her friend suggested. But friend’s anecdote wasn’t in the same ballpark. Falling in love with someone who you caught sniffing your pants is different to falling in love with someone who had been using women as drugs mules, with two of them dying in the process.

Though to clarify, both knicker-sniffing and heroin-smuggling would be deal-breakers for me Grin

springydaff · 04/01/2022 01:51

I couldn't really believe Elliot being a baddie. After all, Luci/Victoria told him he'd killed someone and that turned out to be a lie. Plus all that druggie stuff and my brain was fried, I didn't know what was going on.

So upset at the ending! It hit me hard lol

PGSTesting123 · 04/01/2022 02:43

Kosta is Nick from Heartbreak High, 90's kids will remember him.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 06:35

I Quite fancied Kosta :(
Dark and handsome.
Shame he played such a horrible character
How anyone could like Elliott after finding that out I've no idea :(
Poor Lena.

Dh kept saying all the way through that Elliot was a baddie but I refused to believe it until Lena's story. It made it a sad ending for him but that's life. I'm not sure how he walked out of such a bad car crash with a few scrapes once again. Glad Helen faced up to Ethan and that she has a good friend in her colleague. So a happy ending for her at least.

I wish there was more drama on TV like this, set in unusual places. We get a lot of dramas with characters living in homes overlooking bodies of water with huge clinical kitchens where most of the dialogue takes place.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 09:58

Luci / Victoria obviously wasn't bothered about what he did ! She slept with him and they all must have stunk as none of them had a shower or a bath the whole time.
That awful t shirt he had, that wound me up too!

Then there was the miraculous ankle healing. And the mobile phone still charged after being there at least a few days.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 13:11

He soon threw those crutches away !

D'you think it would've taken it to a new level to have a couple of artistic and non revealing shots of Jamie D in the shower then 80s

Just so we could reassure ourselves that he was keeping his scars clean and looking after himself

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 21:41

We caught a glimpse of Jamie a few times with his top off , but then he had to put it back on again :(

Husband and I had a disagreement about the Helen character. As a fat, plain woman I found it a bit offensive, she was cast to be a shock. Offensive is probably the wrong word, it's not that deep. But she was cast in that role for it to be jarring or surprising that he kissed her. At the hotel when they checked in he lingered, they woke up naked together etc. and that caused a reaction in me that said "nah, unlikely"

Husband thinks they just had a connection and him wanting her is unsurprising. He doesn't see anything surprising or unusual about it.

Cocolapew · 04/01/2022 22:19

I loved it, DH complained about episode 5 but I thought it was a clever way to explain the back story.
I'm not surprised Elliot turned out to be a bad one and I liked the ambiguous ending.
The outback scares me, there's too much space. Imagine driving at night and headlights suddenly apear behind you, it would freak me out Blush.
I still have plans to make Jamie my second husband.

the80sweregreat · 04/01/2022 22:21

Cocolepew ,
I hope you manage to bag the lovely Jamie one day
He has beautiful navy blue eyes.
Just get him to ditch the beard and he'll be even more perfect!

Cocolapew · 04/01/2022 22:31

Thanks 80's Grin
The beard can stay if he trims it a bit and he grows his curls back 😁

jay55 · 04/01/2022 22:39

Finished it tonight.
Now I want a spin off of Helen solving crimes in the outback(with lower body counts).
Her sending out the pic of the car was just brilliant.

Helen's really pretty.
They did have a connection.
He's not a young man so he probably knows body shape isn't everything.
Having said that her shape is fine, it would not take a lot for her to tone up.

ProudThrilledHappy · 04/01/2022 23:25

Just finished this and loved it. The actress who played Helen was in Patti Cakes which is what I recognised her from, I think she is a fantastic actress and often plays someone who gets her love interest which is refreshing, bigger women in films are usually the sidekick or butt of the joke.

I think he dies at the end but has died remorseful so its a kind of redemption story. Also agree with pp that it’s nice to watch something with normal people and scenery rather than clinical modern interiors

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2022 06:44

I've often said that in dramas the not so good looking man gets the girl, but it's rarely the other way round ( I'm not suggesting the one playing Helen isn't nice etc)
It's just how it is with films , generally.
Us humans are hung up on good looks. I'm just as shallow as anyone else on that score and overweight and plain myself.
I know that people are going to now quote films where the normal girl gets her stunning man but I don't know any.

I agree with your DH here. It wasn’t at all surprising or jarring to me that they kissed.

I also agree. I think that was the natural progression after what they'd been through together. She's not that plain, either. I don't think her hairstyle in this did her any favours, but that was part of the character. I think she's got a lovely face.
