I felt so sad for The Queen - it is the first time I have felt she is genuinely much more frail now and she was very open about the loss of Prince Phillip and how missed he is. I felt many people will relate to her message this year.

She has definitely lost weight and her dress did not fit well, which is really unusual - she is usually immaculately turned out. It looked like she had had a hard year.

Bluntness100 · 25/12/2021 21:21

@MrsHGWells

The Queen definitely has slipped a little this year. Not sure when the video was recorded, but normally well tailored clothes were ill fitting and her years are catching up. Her consort should be pulled up (the poor fitting dress & undergarments). I have a lot of sympathy & forgiveness however I feel her time to step back is drawing near to enjoy her family more.
I doubt the poor fitting dress and under garments are her dressers fault. Whatever is going on with the queen I still firmly believe she’s doing exactly as she wishes and is totally in control, and if she didn’t wish to go through the faff of dress fittings or messing around to get the right under wear then fair enough, she’s 95. Can’t blame her.

Christ people on here half here age can’t be arsed with bras, never mind hoiking them up at 95.

GinIronic · 25/12/2021 21:24

I thought she looked very frail. What has happened to her tooth?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/12/2021 21:26

I don’t feel it’s really on to chat of the Queens undergarments…..but I wondered today and when I saw the video message of the COP. That perhaps she is not wearing such a “firm foundation garment” and perhaps is wearing something softer. Maybe due to an illness. Or no longer likes the restrictive undergarments. Can’t say I blame her.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/12/2021 21:27

Her tooth was chipped on the COP video as well. I wondered at the time of she’d taken a tumble.

toomuchlaundry · 25/12/2021 21:42

Maybe she doesn't want people up close sorting out her clothing, but I did think her dress didn't fit as well as usual.

Felt sorry for her, might have shed a tear during her speech

Horsemad · 25/12/2021 22:42

I too thought there was something not right with her face/speech and wondered if she's had a TIA. 😟

WinnieTheW0rm · 25/12/2021 22:54

Her consort should be pulled up

Her consort is dead. I take it you didnt watch the speech, as so much of it was about him.

Malteser71 · 25/12/2021 23:07

Her tooth has always been like that.

She’s a remarkable woman. I was sad watching her this year. I’m not sure she’s going to be able to keep giving a speech like that.

gofg · 25/12/2021 23:13

I don't have children and get a bit upset when people say Christmas is for children or imply it's meaningless if you don't have children to share it with so it meant a lot to me when she said the special thing about Christmas was that it appeals to the child in all of us. Thanks HM!!

Well said, and I thought what she said was lovely also. I don't have children (by choice) and it really annoys me when people say it's meaningless without children. What they actually mean is that they themselves are lacking in imagination and joy!

Lacedwithgrace · 25/12/2021 23:16

According to some the video was CGI

MrsHGWells · 26/12/2021 08:04

mistype Court Lady or Lady in Waiting, naturally.

WinnieTheW0rm · 26/12/2021 08:17

'Court Lady' isn't in use (not sure it ever was) so not an expected or natural word/typo to try to spot.

BellaChagall · 26/12/2021 08:22

I thought she looked very frail. I had tears in my eyes and noticed that the other adults in the room with me watching had the same. It was very emotional and I felt I was watching a significant moment.

PAFMO · 26/12/2021 08:36

@MrsHGWells

mistype Court Lady or Lady in Waiting, naturally.
Or "corset" even. Confused
TrashyPanda · 26/12/2021 08:37

It was very emotional.
She looked so little and frail.
Yes, her dress was too big, but her hair was so beautiful.
My heart went out to her. Publicly revealing your grief was so brave of her.

I cried. For her obvious pain, and because my late DM was born in the same year, and looked a lot like HM.

She is an amazing lady.

EmmasMum12 · 26/12/2021 08:49

Shes an extraordinary woman. I admire her so much.

Shes lost a lot of weight and her speech seemed different....something about her mouth was 'wrong' and she dropped her H's a couple of times...and she looked more like Margaret in HER later years, than I've ever seen.

I'm guessing she couldn't be bothered with a bra. Maybe she has abdominal pain/back pain/a recent operation scar, and bras hurt?

AutumnAlmanack · 26/12/2021 08:54

I felt sad watching it. Her dress was obviously much too big around the neck and shoulders, her face and mouth definitely looked different. I also noticed that she dropped her 'h' a couple of times - very unusual. I so hope she improves and is able to enjoy her special Jubilee year.

Knitter99 · 26/12/2021 09:02

She's the same age as my gran who can't get out of a chair without help and thinks her home is full of giant house rabbits who talk to her all day. God bless the Queen, we'll never see her like again.

I thought it was very touching in it's directness and honesty. Saying goodbye to loved ones, looking to the future, passing on the baton.
She did look small and frail, but she's 95 and it's not been a great year. She no doubt wanted to hug those four new babies and sit with her family at Philip's funeral.
It doesn't matter about her undergarments or the shape of her dress, she got herself up and sorted and delivered a speech that was touching but totally lacking self pity.

upinaballoon · 26/12/2021 10:12

Am I right in thinking that she stopped drinking alcohol earlier this year? That would account for some weight loss, as well as the bereavement causing some. I believe that bodies mourn sometimes. Also, there are conditions which can cause weight loss, so who knows. Her teeth seem quite large but I thought that's because the face has lost weight.
The Queen has quite a large bust, even though her shoulders and neck looked very thin. I don't think she was bra-less.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 26/12/2021 10:18

It's possible the Queen might have intentionally lost some weight, to put herself in the best position should she catch Coronavirus. I don't think she was ever obese but even being overweight is supposed to make symptoms worse.

milly74 · 26/12/2021 10:31

I thought referencing Charles, William, Camilla and Catherine was significant. An indication of a formal handover.

FantasticCrete · 27/12/2021 10:12

Yes HMQ looked frail but so smart and likeable. They lucked out with Catherine, who will take the royal family into the future.
