Just as well, as they seem to have lost all of the ones under 9...

@Bluffinwithmymuffin

It is a shame they can’t bring Rhys and Nancy back.
Agree. I'm gutted for AJ though.
xsquared · 15/12/2021 22:52

So sad for AJ, and although she put on a brave face on ITT, she looked absolutely devastated.

Surely Jive and Charleston would be out of the question even if she was allowed to perform?

CaveMum · 15/12/2021 23:00

Well with my racing background, let’s just say if AJ were a horse she’d be looking at minimum 6 weeks on box rest Sad

I can’t see her performing on Saturday.

Runningupthecurtains · 15/12/2021 23:24

They used to boot people part way through the final so there were only two left for the show dance.

SilverRingahBells · 15/12/2021 23:37

Mark Ramprakash and Matt Dawson were in a two person final, as were Alesha and Matt di Angelo.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/12/2021 00:32

Alesha and Matt did five (?) dances each. A lot anyway!

God, yes. I haven’t caught up with ITT yet, so my only information is what’s been reported on here... I’m hoping the injury is being exaggerated by the show to create a bit of tension and that AJ will make a full recovery in time to perform on Saturday. Will be very sad and a bit flat without her.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 16/12/2021 06:54

Meanwhile, a big shout out to everyone who’s working on Saturday night and won’t be able to watch live. I’ll be home by 8.30pm, so will probably catch most of the second half and be able to vote, then watch whole thing on Sunday, but I know some of you work more unsociable hours in much tougher circumstances (I’m only retail) so here’s to you Wine

I'd forgotten about that , always remember being gutted that we missed some of the show dances though. Sad
SilverRingahBells · 16/12/2021 07:56

I'm still scarred from seeing Sophie EB first-booted from the final standing there in her Charleston outfit but not allowed to repeat it. I felt cheated.

SilverRingahBells · 16/12/2021 08:14

For the people who didn't see ITT, it was upsetting but also weird. AJ was in bits, constantly crying and came in on crutches still unable to put any weight on the affected foot, I can't believe she was exaggerating for effect. Kai was being silently supportive.

But despite that, Janette went through the first pre-written segment of the interview talking in an upbeat way about their final dance choices and only then went onto the bit about the injury. I'm normally fine with Janette for the day to day ITT job but in this rare crisis she wasn't really up to the job. Rylan would have handled it more empathetically and I suspect that Claudia would have overridden the producers and reorganised the interview if not the whole show (she has a lot of clout and is hugely experienced at live TV).

Poor AJ. I suspect Janette was told firmly to keep it positive and was just toeing the line. I've never watched ITT with Rylan, so can't comment on him. But you're right, Claudia would have insisted on doing it differently if at all. How tough for AJ to have to go on and have her injury and her upset on full show.
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 16/12/2021 08:37

Me too.
And I’m sure we didn’t get to see Zoe Ball’s show dance on the night, which was what I was most looking forward to at the time.

StopGoQuitStart · 16/12/2021 08:40

Yes that’s what I meant above. It was very strange. They did the review of their last Saturday dances and very upbeat including AJ then this weird section of AJ clearly distraught explaining her injury but then it very very quickly moved in to the regular interview of final dance choices / how exciting etc. All the while AJ (and us watching!) we’re thinking “but she’ll likely not be dancing!!” I do think Janette was under strict orders to continue as normal and just brush over the injury. Agree that perhaps Rylan would have managed to convey more sympathy or handled it differently whilst still sticking to the script of final dance chat. That’s just experience as being an interviewer though and knowing when you can go slightly off script so I don’t think it’s Janette’s fault for how it was handled but it did come over as very strange. I’ll be very surprised if AJ dances in the final. I wonder how they fill that time? They must have contingency plans surely? Even the big group dance would need rejigged if she can’t perform Sad

SilverRingahBells · 16/12/2021 08:41

We did see Zoe's show dance - it was a flamenco number to America from West Side Story and Ian slipped and fell flat on his arse.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 16/12/2021 08:45

Oh no, it’s definitely not sounding hopeful re AJ then. I’ll watch last night’s ITT on catch up tonight. Gutted. She’ll have to come back and win the Christmas show one day, but it won’t be the same. Rose for the win for me, almost from the start, but I’d have liked to see a real battle for the glitter ball, which it absolutely would have been with AJ and Kai in the final.

I remember... must have been one of her other dances that was cut; I know I was disappointed when she was out before the end. Even worse when it was Sophie.

I just don't think that would work, even if it was feasible. It's a shame that they were not put through to the final and it would be one less headache now.

Poor AJ, I'm heartbroken for her. Plus she could have long term damage and pain. Ligament injuries can be rotten things.

Grrrpredictivetex · 16/12/2021 09:13

I couldn't decide who I wanted to wine Rose or AJ, so maybe they'll be allowed to return next year and Rose to win this year.

There’s no way that would be allowed. It was one thing to give Jamie a second chance after he injured himself at the launch show, but they couldn’t possibly have a finalist start again from scratch for all sorts of reasons.

CharityDingle · 16/12/2021 09:36

Haven't watched ITT yet but from comments on Digital Spy and here, I'm guessing that Janette had to stick with the script, and it was a tough one to handle.
Rylan has great intuition with people, and more experience, so would probably have handled it differently.

Ah I'm just so sorry for AJ, and Kai too. But especially AJ, she must be in horrible pain, she mentioned on Instagram that she got physically sick, when the pain struck first.
She must be gutted at having come so far, only for this to happen.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 16/12/2021 09:41

Oh god, poor AJ! I almost don't want to bother watching on Saturday now, it just won't be the same.

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/12/2021 09:49

Can't see her dancing Saturday. Two-horse race then.
Possible segment on AJ like on it takes two, exit interview with best bits or perhaps even repeating the past jive and charleston. That could use up 20 minutes. After round 1 live and before the showdance round.
Then invite her and Kai to perform their showdance next year either in the launch show along with presumably Rose's cc if she wins, or if that deemed detracting to the winner, then as a guest spot later in the series or in the Strictly 2022 final (similar to Nicola and Katya invited back to dance). Sorted!

SequinsandStiIettos · 16/12/2021 09:52

Ah, actually nope - that wouldn't work as Kai would be newly partnered up. They would have to do their showdance at the launch show after Rose but before Kai gets freshly partnered.

I think it was the show dance that was cut for a few years then when there were complaints about not seeing some of them they continued to boot someone part way through the final but moved the show dances so it was a repeated dance that was dropped before they moved to keeping all the finalists to the end. I feel so sorry for AJ (and Kai) even if they load her with cortisone injections and manage to get her on the dancefloor on Saturday she won't have had the rehearsal time that John and Rose will get.
