Previius thread

Hopefully not — two new threads in one show would be a bit ridiculous. Grin

Polite reminder that this is a spoiler-free thread

Was Anton drunk?

coodawoodashooda · 12/12/2021 13:17

@Alcemeg

Was Anton drunk?
It never occurred to me that he was. Why do you think he was?
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 12/12/2021 13:47

boogiewithasuitcase

I would be happy if they all went through to the final and we could see another two dances from each of them next week! Will never happen though.

I’d like that too

SequinsandStiIettos · 12/12/2021 13:58

but now he has been on the show 3 years
since 2015, seven series under his belt now
was criticised for choreo twice when started (Georgia's rumba and Laura's samba) but then had ringers back to back, two older partners and now Rose. Makes him the show's second longest-standing pro after Aljaz.
Will be interesting next year to see how he manages a duffer.

boogiewithasuitcase · 12/12/2021 14:17

Bluffin sadly it is too late for us and SoupDragon to start a petition! Smile

Ranvir wasn't a ringer.
xsquared · 12/12/2021 14:41

Nor was Michelle visage.

GoodPrincessWenceslas · 12/12/2021 14:44

@WeAreTheHeroes

Two women dancing together has long been a thing - back when their were dancehalls rather than discos there were frequently more women than men, especially in wartime, and women would dance together because they wanted to dance.
That always makes me think of Joyce Grenfell and "Dancing bust to bust"
Alcemeg · 12/12/2021 14:46

@coodawoodashooda no idea! I jotted it down as a note when watching Strictly last night. However, looking back on it, it could definitely be a case of the pot calling the kettle black 😋

I really liked J+J's wafting!

GoodPrincessWenceslas · 12/12/2021 14:50

@EvilRingahBitch

And the bit in the middle up by the band where he does the bonkers fast footwork twice, while she stands two feet away and wiggles her hips unconvincingly.
It always makes me laugh when the pros have to bring out all the tricks to try to distract from their partners' uselessness. You always used to know when Ola thought she was in trouble because her costumes would become either skin-tight or minimal to the point of disappearance.
SequinsandStiIettos · 12/12/2021 14:54

2 ringers were Debbie and Faye
He was expected to have a duffer consequently but had Michelle (53) and Ranvir (43) who were older than some of the women those years.
(not as old as Debbie but she was the first of two ringers in a row). Debbie was robbed is the hill I die on!
Gio has not yet had an Anneka or an Ugo or for that matter, a plus-sized partner, so 2022 will be interesting.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/12/2021 14:59

@OutwiththeOutCrowd

Giovanni’s choreography is always tailored so thoughtfully to fit the personality and background of his partners. I loved the moment in the AT when Rose readjusts Gio’s head position so his gaze is in her direction. A small movement that was just very Rose - capturing her strength and the emotional dynamic between Gio and her beautifully.
That was almost my favourite moment of any dance this series - with the exception of their couples choice which I just found utterly joyous from start to finish and which contains so many favourite moments I couldn’t list them all

Ah - I agree about Debbie but here ‘Danny was robbed’ is the hill our family dies on. The combination of gorgeous dances generally, that samba specifically, and Oti - that was their year. My bitterness is not helped by my entirely irrational dislike of Joanne Clifton, I’ll admit.
BasiliskStare · 12/12/2021 15:10

@SoupDragon - I agree - my mid twenties DS does give a flying hoot whether his friends are gay or not ,

poorbuthappy · 12/12/2021 15:26

@StCharlotte

All three votes to Rose on the back of that AT and I'm pretty much indifferent to the other three now so I don't mind who goes.

I really enjoyed Rhys's AT last week but otherwise I've found him uncomfortable to watch - so gangly. Charming lad though.

I loved AJ's Charlston and CC.

Can't believe no one has advised Johannes to rein in his own performances. I kind of liked their jive last night but John did look drained by the end.

I thought John looked like he was physically struggling in that jive!
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 12/12/2021 15:33

TheOnlyLivingBoyinNewCross

I agree. Rose and Giovanni's Couple's Choice dance was utterly joyous.

People who are born deaf use areas of the brain normally devoted to processing sound to process touch and vision instead. Since Rose’s brain processes sensory information differently to most dancers, there is a certain unique quality to her dancing. She is acutely aware of where Giovanni is relative to her through the enhanced peripheral visual processing that is typical of deaf people and she is also more responsive than is the norm to his touch cues.

(This is not to take away from the difficulties she must experience at times.)

I was referring to Johannes being on the show 3 years ( with a partner).
StopGoQuitStart · 12/12/2021 15:46

Rewatched again nursing hangover Blush I think I agree with majority re JJ. I loved it last light and did have a blub when they were watching the audience vt and his sisters were talking etc. I really enjoyed John talking too. However the dance itself wasn’t as emotionally moving as I remembered. Then their second dance was Johannes outshining yet again. I wish he’d tone down and support the celeb more - that’s literally his job!! I didn’t like the end to their jive either it seemed really abrupt.

Having said that I still think he would I’ll go to the final. I can’t see the judges sending him home - wouldn’t that be a backlash of some kind if they did? Assuming up against Rhys and not AJ or Rose. I think Rose will win but am still backing AJ as have soft spot for her now.

Anyone know if there are the picture spoilers on the Daily Mail site as there have been last few weeks (a “x & y look downcast leaving studio on Saturday night” innocent headline aka massive spoiler!!) Usually read the “news” in that site but scared to click today as really so NOT want results show ruined!!

Also anyone recall how the final is voted on? Thinking timing of votes as DC often going to sleep and I watch catch up but I really want to vote this year.

And finally, why is there no ITT with the finalist. I miss that they dint get their interviews etc. Be nice to have one final ITT after the final but I don’t think they do that.

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/12/2021 15:49

As an aside, I don't remember watching Laura Whitmore being on the show but I thought she looked good in the dances that were linked - looked to me like Gio had done the best job for her with the choreography.

I hope this link works - but the comment above made me think of their dance together.. where Gio just spun away Grin it always makes me laugh..

EvilRingahBitch · 12/12/2021 15:59

No spoilers in the papers I think - the Digital Spy spoiler didn't come in until lunchtime today so I think they genuinely didn't know.

ChessieFL · 12/12/2021 16:03

There was something on Facebook earlier - a link to a Mirror article about fans being upset with results being leaked. I didn’t click on it though so avoided seeing any spoilers!

StopGoQuitStart · 12/12/2021 16:04

See thanks so much. It’s hard to when having lazy Sunday and usually scan the sites but I was so annoyed being spoiled a few weeks ago with Tilly I’ve been too nervous to do random site scanning again on Sunday.

EvilRingahBitch · 12/12/2021 16:09

I wouldn't recommend you read the Mirror article, but it's not a spoiler. Apart from anything else it was published before the "official" spoiler came out and referred to random Twitter spoilers which are often trolls.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/12/2021 16:21

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Last one. promise.

fab

I had that album. Vinyl.
CounsellorTroi · 12/12/2021 16:27

@JanisMoplin

I rewatched Rose 's AT and feel her legs were too soft and not staccato enough. But I don't think anyone agrees with me. I only really enjoyed AJ's quickstep last night. I think the standard for the last two years has been low. But as pp say, no ringers! ( I like ringers).
I thought the same.

She’s the most wonderful ballroom dancer but I really think she is too delicate to carry off an AT.
