I think Dan and Nadiya are in Brief Encounter territory - there’s a lot going on under the surface between two people married to others that’s not acted upon - it’s an old fashioned tale and the sweetness is in the transience of the connection.

There may be a slight wistfulness about a path untravelled but no more than that. They look as if they are committed to their marital partners, yet surprised and grateful at the same time to find someone who could bring out some of their latent, untapped qualities.

In my opinion, not sitting arms entwined on camera doesn’t signify an absence of feelings!

I hate all this trying to "force" a relationship where there isn't one. The speculation and twisting every little thing to support that is incredibly distasteful.

AJ and Kai are dancing rumba and quickstep.
Rose and Gio - Argentine tango and waltz.
J&J - couples choice and jive.
Rhys and Nancy - tango and samba.

I think it's unfair J&J have CC, as they could dance any which way and the judges tend to mark up. Other couples will be judged on proper (for want of a better word!) dances with established steps as a criteria for marking. I appreciate others have already done CC but not at such a critical stage of the competition Hmm

Some odd music choices as usual. I approve of Kai and AJ doing a proper old-fashioned quickstep to "Sing Sing Sing" - great track.

A quickstep to Sing Sing Sing has always been my dream Strictly dance if I was ever to become famous and get on it. Hope they do it justice - sure they will.

Just shows we all have different ideas about attractiveness. DH has never found blondes attractive.

I agree. It's very tacky.

Dan seems to have a very happy marriage and strikes me as someone who would see cheating as very wrong.

They obviously get on well but, I feel, are just good friends

Maybe not but I know DH would never fancy Nadiya as she is the typical blonde beauty.

Karen has much more interesting looks and I think she has much nicer hair. Karen did dye her hair blonde but it was not like Nadiya's baby blonde colour was it?

If I could choose to look like one of them I would choose Karen

On ITT I saw Nadiya looking at Dan for the longest time, just after she'd said something very touching, and Dan did not return her gaze. So I think probably Dan has done his best to stay unswayed by Nadiya's beauty. That was the moment that made me think uh-oh though. Unless Nadiya was trying not to cry and therefore look somewhere that isn't the camera?

I do think that Nadiya did THE most brilliant job in choreographing, teaching and showcasing to make the very most of Dan's abilities. This year she was up there with Oti's abilities to get a sideboard to the final (almost)

I'm a hetero woman and I think Nadiya is stunning. DH prefers Karen or Amy.

I do covet AJ's fabulous pins. I have chubby little legs and suspect AJ wouldn't want to swap Grin.

I feel bad for AJ having a rumba and also Rhys for having a samba. At least Rhys has an AT which is always a crowd pleaser. I think the QS will suit AJ though.

Rose and John have better dances. Rose a crowd pleasing AT and a waltz, not the most exciting dance but Rose's ballroom is strong and Gio will choreograph something lovely and romantic which I think will go down well.

John has a crowd pleasing jive and a CC which nearly always seem to be marked highly. I am looking forward to the jive. I would love to see them do a theatre jazz CC but I think they will go contemporary.

Higher Power by Coldplay seems a bit of an odd choice for a jive, too slow?

Hope they can make it work, but wish they'd been given better music.

Maisie had her couple's choice in the semis too, and they have all done one, so cannot get stressed over it.
AJ - (filthy) rumba good for shippers, QS good
John - contempowaft good for scores, jive will be the challenge
Rhys - tango good, a high-energy samba might play to his strengths
Rose - AT if she can perform it, waltz always goes down well
They all have a chance of going through but arguably John and Gio have an edge by having outside choreo for one.
Music - Mickey Bubbles, I agree with Nancy that One Vision for a tango sucks and if Rhys goes out now, that's on him, and I like Queen.
The band do a decent job of it though Ricky's paso was godawful. Audience will clap, maybe he will perform first...but I don't like fast frenetic tangos. I didn't like Karim's to Paradise for the same reason nor do I like upbeat songs (Karim, Debbie, Susan).

AJ's choices are safe enough as are John's Rose's I needed to look up She seems safer on those.

Wouldn't be my first choice for a jive but maybe John being tall needs a slower chorus for the kicks and flicks and can go faster in the verses with drunken sailors and what not?

Except no one’s trying to force a relationship between Dan and Nadiya, or deny that he has a solid, very happy marriage. Yes, of course it’s possible for men not to be attracted to certain women, however beautiful they are, as a pp said, just as it’s possible for people to find each other attractive without being remotely unfaithful to their partner... but if ever I find some of the speculation on this thread ‘tacky’ or ‘distasteful’ I simply stay out of it.

I imagine a lot of people view the act of cheating as being very wrong…..that doesn’t mean they don’t fancy other people though. They just don’t act on it.

Rumbas are certainly that - along with the Samba and quite a few cha-chas - but I can see AJ pulling it off.
