Previous thread here

I think it's a pretty good QF as QFs go.

Yeah. Probably just being cynical based on my own past experience. Sorry!

DontWantTheRivalry · 07/12/2021 07:58

Watch it again and look at his eyes.

Strangely enough, when I was watching their interview there was one very brief moment when he looked at her and something inside me made me feel like there’s something more than friendship there. It was only a very momentary thought that I had it was definitely there.

I saw it too.
SoupDragon · 07/12/2021 08:10

Of course, it could just be the closeness from having been in a dance studio for hours nearly every day.

SoupDragon · 07/12/2021 08:12

Part of what made their dances a little flat for me is that there was never a hint that they might be more than just good friends. There was no emotional attachment to each other beyond that. Same with Tom and Amy.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/12/2021 08:29

dan is a professional
as is nadia
he wouldnt want scandal

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/12/2021 08:32

Yes, I think so. Dan clearly has a happy marriage, he’s an honourable man and definitely not the type to stray, but there’s a bit of a light in his eyes when he looks at Nadiya sometimes. Hardly surprising when they’ve been dancing closely together for months, obviously get on well, and she’s a beauty. No threat to his wife, I’m sure, but still. We’re all fallible human beings and some things you just can’t help.

EvilRingahBitch · 07/12/2021 08:40

I think that "emotional affair" could probably be a reasonable diagnosis of most of the couples on Strictly with the exception of Lulu and Brendan (or frankly Brendan and most of his partners after Kaplinsky, and in Anton's case clearly only ever one sided). It's a freakish situation in which you do build up an intense emotional relationship over a short period, but I wouldn't judge it by normal standards.

DontWantTheRivalry · 07/12/2021 08:43

Does anyone remember that Friends episode where Joey explains that when it comes to sexual attraction it’s the couples who don’t have it on stage who are the ones to worry about….

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 07/12/2021 09:07

I think Dan and Nadiya are in Brief Encounter territory - there’s a lot going on under the surface between two people married to others that’s not acted upon - it’s an old fashioned tale and the sweetness is in the transience of the connection.

There may be a slight wistfulness about a path untravelled but no more than that. They look as if they are committed to their marital partners, yet surprised and grateful at the same time to find someone who could bring out some of their latent, untapped qualities.

In my opinion, not sitting arms entwined on camera doesn’t signify an absence of feelings!

Tyredofallthis1 · 07/12/2021 09:19

I think with Dan and Nadiya they have spent hours and hours every day together for months. They are bound to be close. And it looks like Dan has really helped Nadiya, from what she was saying. They may feel a connection. I don't get any sense that they would act on it.

And they both seem so nice!

Frezia · 07/12/2021 09:29

It must be a difficult situation for the partners, even with all the trust in the world. I think I would mostly be jealous of the time they get to spend together focusing on developing their connection and chemistry. Who of us can afford to spend weeks with their DP practicing sexy or sensual dances for hours a day focusing solely on us as a couple. It's a bubble of escapism.

TheMadGardener · 07/12/2021 09:30

Maybe if they weren't both happy with other people there could have been something (very Brief Encounter!) but I feel Nadiya's probably just sick of being treated like a blonde sex object and groped - she must have been delighted to find herself paired with a man who was actually respectful and treated her as a person rather than a body.

Kai and AJ MUST be doing a quickstep - in an Insta story posted yesterday you could hear Kai doing quickstep counting in the background! They are on ITT tonight so we will find out their dances.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 07/12/2021 09:34

OutWiththeOutCrowd
Hits nail on head... I think you’re right (and beautifully put!)
I agree too about the arms entwined thing. Seen quite a few couples over the years sitting hand in hand on the sofa when one of them is clearly not at all keen on the other.

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/12/2021 09:45

What a load of nonsense @OutwiththeOutCrowd.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 07/12/2021 09:54

WeAreTheHeroes, quite possibly, it's just an opinion. They may be impervious to each other's charms.

I was reading all of these posts and thinking of this exact thing Grin

We’ll never know, but as Outwith said, we’re expressing our opinions- and we’re allowed to do that.

CaliforniaDrumming · 07/12/2021 10:11

I don't watch ITT but I am glad Nadiya finally got a decent-ish partner after her row of clunkers. I did enjoy some of her choreo this year; I just thought that Dan didn't perform it very well.

When I danced at university we always reckoned the ones with the least "sizzle" during the rumba were the ones that were real-life couples. It was often true!

I'm not being funny but Dan would have to be blind not to fancy Nadiya n I'm a straight woman and I fancy her Grin Doesn't mean he's going to or has done anything about it.

She's stunning.

Men are quite capable of seeing an attractive woman and not fancying them.

I think Nadiya is stunning but my DH doesn't. He thinks Karen is far more attractive

Juniper68 · 07/12/2021 11:35

mydogisthebest she looks more blokeish to me.

Lampzade · 07/12/2021 11:43

@Tyredofallthis1

Having watched all the video stuff that isn't dance, I was really struck by how wholesome Nadiya is. I think having Dan as a partner made a big difference to her, and let her be a little more comfortable.

I also got the impression that actually she's a little shy, so the whole back stage stuff must be tough for her.

Yes, I think that she is very shy
