What do you think of Sarah Beeny's mega-mansion?

A new programme has started on Channel 4 following Sarah Beeny and her husband (and their four kids) as they build their ginormous new house in Somerset.

The house looks like a Lego version of a Georgian country pile. It's naff looking I'm being honest. (yes I can say that. no it isn't a very mean thing to say). The kind of house a Russian oligarch who fancied being an English country gent two weekends a year might have built.

I think we're supposed to worry along with them as to whether their Lego mansion runs over budget and doesn't get finished on time.

Their dog Maple is gorgeous though. No grumbles about Maple.

What do you think of Sarah Beeny's mega-mansion?

Also the wardrobe door to the smaller room...she is living her childhood dreams but I think this is just going to be a big waste of space. Unless it's a hotel and it's a "themed" room.

Sarah's brother is married to Graham's sister.

That's weird isn't it? Isn't it?!

I don’t think they are short of space though. She can afford the space to ‘waste’ on frivolous fun stuff.

I totally agree re the weirdness of the incestuous-but-not nature of the marriages, @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy . They all seem like nice people though

Watched the next episode. Loved it. I'm really enjoying this series. I'm in bed sick and this is giving me light relief and just a joyous thing to watch. I definitely feel inspired by what they are doing. Also feel like I need to have more children! Two's not enough! Haha

Yes to be fair they do all seem absolutely lovely. And I guess if one couple has an attraction it would make sense their siblings would have maybe an attraction to the other sibling based on beliefs, values, backgrounds etc. Fair enough, I was just a bit surprised and I actually rewound it three times to make sure I heard it correctly!

I've just watched the first episode - why would you paint a ceiling in a nice jumper, jeans and boots? Surely you'd wear old gear or overalls?
Makes it look like she's just jumped up on the scaffolding with a paint brush for a photo/filming opportunity.

I think the outfit wasn't new to be fair and I do stuff like that.

I just watched the bridge restoration episode and absolutely burst out laughing at the goat comment!

I saw Sarah interviewed on Lorraine and she said several times how lucky they were to have such a beautiful home. I'm so glad she's better now and they seem like a lovely family.

Clear cut, unambiguous and succinct! Well said 'Luredbyapomegranate' I concur wholeheartedly 👏👏👏All 'mink anorak, no scanties'? 🤔

Seeing this thread bumped on MN reminded me of how irritating SB is on instagram. Lots of weird, 'in my day' type memes and hypocritical BS about how unenvironmentally friendly everyone is and how we should all try to live more sustainably (whilst living in the oversized concrete mansion she built from scratch, having knocked a perfectly serviceable family home down).
