Danny Mac didn't win because he wasn't as popular. It's nothing to do with the dancing.

CampagVelocet · 30/11/2021 07:57

@ElftonWednesday

"Lord, grant me the confidence of a mediocre white Dan".
Amazing 👏🏼
WeAreTheHeroes · 30/11/2021 07:59

@ElftonWednesday - he probably speaks highly of you too. What a revolting comment.

If I remember the threads correctly, Danny Mac was felt to be a ringer, but he was fantastic. I cannot warm to Ore in anything he does, clearly very many others think differently.

EvilRingahBitch · 30/11/2021 08:10

Series 14 was a strange one. I liked all the top six (Ed Balls, Judge Rinder, Claudia F, Danny, Louise, Ore) but wasn't really rooting for any of them to win. I don't think I even voted in the final.

Danny's Samba, American Smooth and Charleston were amazing, and the AS is one of my top ten ever Strictly dances, but I didn't warm to him as a person and I didn't really feel that Oti was teaching him to dance, more that they were professionals working on a routine together (and yes I'm sure that's unfair). There's no doubt that Joanne taught Ore to dance to a pretty high standard from a lowish base and I think that's what the GBP look for, with some exceptions. I still don't understand why his support arrived so late in the day though. It could be simply the fact that one iconic dance like Ore's Jive/Singin In The Rain AS can cement you in the public imagination. I strongly suspect that that's what's happened with Rose'sCC.

Clawdy · 30/11/2021 08:25

I remember seeing some video film of Ore's wedding day well before his Strictly stint, and he was getting weepy during the speeches. He's obviously always been emotional, he was not being " manipulative".Can't understand the dislike for Ore on here.

Rose's tango was the one that really made me sit up and go wow, and the CC just cemented that.
EvilRingahBitch · 30/11/2021 08:34

Yes I don't think Ore was putting it on at all. It obviously wasn't helping him at the beginning because he was very unpopular in the vote, so if it was fake surely he'd have stopped. Some people do just have hair trigger tear ducts.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/11/2021 08:42

It’s a funny old thing, the voting. I usually have one or two favourites all the way, giving random votes to couples when I especially enjoy one of their dances, but if my personal faves don’t get to the final, I vote for whatever/whoever I like best on the day, even if I haven’t thrown them a single vote all series. It also depends what happens at the last knockings. Sometimes a couple really comes through or pulls off something special, or there’s been a real process, and occasionally a former favourite falls a bit flat.
I’d guess that’s probably how quite a lot of us vote, which is partly why the best dancers often don’t win, and why couples can find themselves in the dance off a few times and still end up in the final.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/11/2021 08:45

My mind’s gone completely blank... someone remind me, who was Claudia F?!

Claudia Frangipani (might have misspelt that). Olympic gymnast.
SanFranBear · 30/11/2021 08:50

I had Danny & Oti in my sweepstake that year... was so sure I'd win but what can yiu do? I did get Oti again a couple of years ago (with Kelvin) so finally did lift the glitterball, but it was a long time coming!!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 30/11/2021 09:03

Thanks, yes, I remember her now. She was great wasn’t she

I think that is correct, it just takes one dance to catch the publics imagination/heart and then they overlook all other flaws/poor dances. Plus, the element of unexpectedly excellent seems to be required aswell (for example, Danny's samba and AS were exquisite but not surprisingly so) The ones that immediately spring to mind are:

Chris Hollins charleston
Bill Bailey Couples Choice
Ore jive
Kelvin Samba (he got the votes from day 1 Grin)
Ramps salsa

There must be others.

dollybird · 30/11/2021 09:11

Jay's jive! He had other great dances, but think he won with his jive, especially when everyone felt he should've got 40, week 3 or not, so a certain amount of injustice was felt too.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/11/2021 09:29

Mind you, he’s been on the West End state ever since so he’s probably not suffering as a result of not winning!

He was before he went on — I saw him in Wicked in about 2010. Admittedly in the ensemble, but still.

dollybird · 30/11/2021 11:59

Just read that Amy was hospitalised over the weekend with her Crohn's. Now recuperating at Tom and Giovanna's as her husband is away.

CaveMum · 30/11/2021 12:34

Poor Amy. I saw the headline on another page which misleading used a picture of Rhys and Nancy alongside the headline "Strictly Star Hospitalised" Hmm

Glad she is being looked after and nice to know that her friendship with the Fletcher's is genuine and not the often faux "of course we'll stay in touch" stuff.

IntermittentParps · 30/11/2021 12:35

Poor Amy. Amazing that she's able to work as a dancer with those health issues.

Claymorekick · 30/11/2021 12:36

God yes, how had I forgotten about that one Shock
JacquelineCarlyle · 30/11/2021 12:37

Me too @CaveMum - made me think they're obviously decent people with a real friendship as otherwise they wouldn't have had her to stay.

Bobholll · 30/11/2021 12:52

I’m sorry but the Fletcher & Amy situation is beyond weird. She not only stayed & trained all day with Tom last week with Tom after being knocked out, she then needed hero Tom to carry her to the ambulance (did the crew forget to pack a wheelchair?), the Fletchers to look after her in hospital & now she has returned ‘home’ to the Fletchers house. What the actual hell?!

She has a fiancé. He was in Blackpool when she was taken ill but what fiance wouldn’t rush to the hospital & cancel whatever they were doing. What person doesn’t want to go back home to their own bed? To the love of their life for their comfort & to feel the most yourself. Also, Parents? Family? Friends she’s known for more than 5 months?! It’s REALLY WEIRD. If I was Gi Fletcher & my husband wouldn’t leave another woman I let a few months ago alone, I’d not be happy.

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe they’re a happy little 3some now?

Who knows….

Bobholll · 30/11/2021 12:55

She wasn’t kidding when she said the Fletchers wouldn’t be rid of her.. 😷😂

Bobholll · 30/11/2021 12:55

Maybe they’ve adopted her.. but seriously, where is Ben?! Why hadn’t she gone home?!

EvilRingahBitch · 30/11/2021 13:07

Yes in my head* there's a whole subplot where Amy's doing a Single White Female / reverse Misery on the Fletchers. Remember that she was a childhood McFly Superfan.

*but absolutely not in reality, Amy is a good Welsh girl and I'm sure she's exactly as lovely as she seems.
