This is supposed to be a dance competition though

It's never been purely a dance competition, it's a popularity contest.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2021 11:50

Given what happened to Claudia's daughter a few Halloweens ago, I hope they're using flame retardant fabrics.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 11:54

Oh Maireas

Lonely Water and the polished floor rug (may as well have put a man trap down) freaked me as well as the burny one. 😱

If they set those bloody things to dance on strictly, I’d need to watch with a stiff drink…

Maireas · 21/11/2021 11:55

They are. The good outcome of that dreadful incident was to ensure that it never happened again. Regulations about the standards for children's costumes were tightened up.
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 11:55

Oh I forgot about that with Claude’s wee girl. Sorry 😔

Maireas · 21/11/2021 11:56

Yes, I'm sorry too. We appeared to make light of it, but that was a terrible thing for Claudia and family. Fortunately a positive outcome.

Morning All, I was working last night so missed live show, just caught up with it now. Rtft and was prepared to be disappointed, but there wasn’t a dance I didn’t enjoy... too late for predictions, but I would’ve voted AJ, Rose and John. I agree that John has plateaued, but still hoping he’ll somehow break out a bit and be brilliant instead of staying as good as he was at the start.

Tilly was overmarked, and although she did well with what she was given, there was no mistaking who was the professional... not sure what Shirl was thinking. That said, she’s grown on me week on week, even if I find the frequent references to family a bit annoying (never liked Gordon, which doesn’t help). Think there’s more of it with Tilly than there is with Tom tbf... not a fan of Tom either, but don’t see smugness in the Fletchers or the Ramsays; just functional families, and if, as a pp said, the Ramsay kids have direction and aren’t just second generation showbiz kids... what’s not to like about that?

My other impressions were:
Motsi’s hair needed its own show.
Tess pointed out Rhy’s mistake the minute he came off the floor- since when was it Tess’s job to comment, has she done this before and I just haven’t noticed?
Russell Crowe seems to be modelling himself on the late Oliver Reed and may as well have said “I’m too good for this shit” he really is a smug old git~

Loved the opening number and Shirley’s outfit, ditto Claudia’s (that’s a first!)

The opening number - how creepily sexy was Giovanni in that role? It made me rather Confused

Have seen Cabaret with Will Young in that role and that was just creepy…

TomelettewithGreggs · 21/11/2021 11:58

I can't express in mere words how much I hated Tilly and Nikita's dance. Sorry but I do not want to look at Nikita in unfllattering shorts. How did that get more than AJ and Kai's Charleston for god's sake?

I thought Rhys was actually good.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 11:58

Re Claude.

There was a comment on here saying that ‘Claude was on the wheel’

I read it as ‘Claude was on the weed’ and promptly wiped the back of my knees with my eyebrow. 🥴

Maireas · 21/11/2021 12:02

Yes, Claudia was on the wheel! The question was about art and she has a master's degree from Cambridge on art and her dissertation, as luck would have it, was on Rembrandt!
I'm sure her appearance was not aided by any substance other than a light meal and mineral water Wink

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 12:05

In my defence I was tired maireas but it gave me a moment 🤣

Jennalong · 21/11/2021 12:11

Bottom 3 for me Dan,Tom and Rhys .

Romeiswheretheheartis · 21/11/2021 12:19

Agree about Tess saying straight away about Rhys's mistake - she was bloody rude! He hadn't drawn breath and she's going on about making a mistake. Since when was she the 5th judge Hmm

Also agree about Nikita's very unflattering shorts - I hate when they put the male dancers in shorts, they look ridiculous. Having said that, all the comments about Tilly being stompy shows she was dancing it well - it was meant to be stompy! I thought she was great, high energy and perfectly in time with Nikita. I enjoyed her dance more than Rose's tbh.

It just goes to show that we are all different. I thought Rhys was head and shoulders the weakest last night. A glaring mistake, ahead of Nancy/the music, not great technique and still no connection with his partner.
Claymorekick · 21/11/2021 12:33

I agree - whilst Tilly's dance was not 40-worthy, it was significantly better than Rhys which just looked messy and out of control to me (and that was without factoring in the glaring mistake). Poor Nancy seemed to be having to work so hard to keep up as he was racing ahead of the music. Guess she had a choice to dance to the music and get out of sync with Rhys or keep up with Rhys but then be out of time with the music - pretty rubbisj for her Confused

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 12:34

I’d have spun round like a dervish myself if Rhys had countered Tess’s critique with an ‘oh look at your scorny little face’.

Know your place Tess mate.

SequinsandStiIettos · 21/11/2021 12:36

I still think Craig should have given AJ 40 for her Charleston (even though it wasn't my thing, I could see the Josephine Baker in it) - he gave Clara 10 last year. I don't think he would have given Tilly a ten yesterday. I also don't know any opener that has ever scored 40 as there is nowhere for the jury to go after that - I was impressed it got 10s tbh as openers usually fair worse.
AJ has cha cha or salsa next week (?), couples choice, and rumba/QS/tango left as options. It's possible for her to still get a 40 - alternatively, she will get one when reprising the jive, charleston or AS in the final.
So far we have had three - Tilly's cc, which benefitted from Craig's absence (or may have been 38/39), Rhys's Charleston, Rose's tango.
Gardening Not sure which Grease track you mean but DWTS had routines to every song on the soundtrack on their Grease themed week so you will probably find a routine there.

Foxtrot "Summer Nights"
Viennese waltz "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee"
Viennese waltz "Hopelessly Devoted to You"
Jive "Greased Lightnin'"
Viennese waltz "Beauty School Dropout"
Charleston "Born to Hand Jive"
Foxtrot "Sandy"—John Travolta
Rumba "There Are Worse Things I Could Do"
Foxtrot "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee (Reprise)"
Quickstep "You're the One That I Want"
Quickstep "We Go Together"
The Summer nights foxtrot, sleb has a yellow dress on - no sign of a pink shirt for Danny though.

TomelettewithGreggs · 21/11/2021 12:36

There was a mistake, but the jive needs energy and he had good kicks and flicks. Dan was better than usual so I guess he will continue his progress over better dancers.

Tilly has been stompy the whole series, and I guess Nikita decided to get ahead of it by deliberately making his choreo stompy.

SequinsandStiIettos · 21/11/2021 12:37

'scorny little face' Grin Grin Grin

Yes, he looked like Just Willliam or I thought School of Rock at first
woodhill · 21/11/2021 12:45

@SoupDragon

I didn't like AJ's waltz. It seemed very pedestrian to me. I wanted to love it given the theming but it didn't do it for me. She's had far lovelier dances IMO.

This is partly where the viewers' vote falls down as it's mostly based on "the feelz" and popularity rather than actually skill. Understandably so of course!

Rhys's jive seems very, very fast to my untrained eye. I'm not surprised he was knackered after a week of that!

I think it's sometimes about the music which the judges like itms and it evokes good memories
Bobholll · 21/11/2021 12:52

I like Tilly. I think she’s a great role model. She seems kinda normal despite her multimillion pound upbringing & hanging with the Beckham kids (who are frankly so entitled I could slap their little faces. Brooklyn is the worst, agh I hate him).

I think she’s doing well, I think she’s improved. Last night was not bad. It was 100% not a 40.

Those jumping to her defence are so defensive! No-one is saying she’s not nice or not this or that. Just that her mark was daft yesterday. It’s not one or the other. You can like her but think she was over marked! Confused

EvilRingahBitch · 21/11/2021 13:00

SoupDragon I think you might need to get a cardiac checkup, because I thought AJ's waltz tugged at my heartstrings like nobody's business.

Johannes has always been a spectacularly eye-catching dancer. He was a support dancer on the tour a few years ago and everyone was immediately saying "who the hell is he and can they get him on the main show". Obviously as the only black male dancer it made it easier for the viewers to keep track of him in big group numbers in a massive arena, but even so, to stand out in those circumstances says something about just how "extra" he's always been. Combining that with same sex routines dressed alike and doing largely identical moves and a very talented celebrity, it's a real challenge for him not to overshadow John. I wouldn't change the pairing though because they clearly have great chemistry, they're loving the experience, they've done some great dances, and they're progressing well in the competition with no dance-offs yet. All SCD partnerships have pros and cons (apart from Alesha and Matthew who were perfect in all ways obviously).

Yes, totally agree with this. I do like Tilly but still think she was over marked 🤷‍♀️

And I did raise my eyebrows when she said she had a normal upbringing...because, yes, everyone hangs out with other celebs, particularly the Beckhams Hmm

Been thinking about it and I much preferred Tilly's halloween cha cha cha in term

I did too, I think that chacha was the best thing she’s done. Had no interest in Tilly/Nikita up to that point, but liking this couple now.
