I don’t understand that marking for Tilly at all.

And the thing that makes me sad is that it makes a mockery of the other 40 dances we’ve had - if that monstrosity can get 40, just give it out to everyone, fgs. How on earth did that get a 40 and Rose and Gio not get one last week, for example? Or AJ not get one for her waltz?

I feel that there must be dark Strictly politics at work which I don’t understand…

MaggieFS · 21/11/2021 08:39

@SoupDragon @SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit I don't think it's a particular problem. Much as they refer to 'Saturday night' during the results show, its widely known it's filmed on Saturday.

Figgygal · 21/11/2021 08:39

I’m still raging over Tilly this morning
Utter nonsense

Samcro · 21/11/2021 08:42

i don't "hate" tilly. she seems really nice.
but the idea that she is not famous because of her dad is preposterous.
if she was just Tilly smith she would not have millions of followers.

Gardeningcreature · 21/11/2021 08:51

Well I enjoyed Tillys dance and thought it was spot on. DD’s old dance school did the exact same number in a dance show, obviously they had a lot more dancers plus they sang live too and it was a direct replica of the Tim Minchin stage version. As others have said it is supposed to be stompy. It’s disgruntled school children, not world class ballerinas.
I thought Dan did a good job too and I loved AJ. Disappointed in Rose’s dance. Gave her a vote as I thought they could be in danger this week. I didn’t enjoy it at all. Thought the whole idea was twee. Didn’t like the quick step, they went wrong, the outfits made me cringe. Hopefully Frozen fans will save them from the dance off.
I’d love to see a couple do Grease in musicals week, not You’re the one that I want but the dance off where Sandy gets separated from Danny. She is wearing the yellow dress and he is wearing the pink shirt.
Enjoyed Tim Minchin’s video, at least he actually seemed to know who and what he was referring to. Russell Crowe was an embarrassment. He was also crap in Les Mis. My cat could have sang better.

Sittinginthesand · 21/11/2021 08:59

Samcro - Tilly and Rhys were the only ones my dcs had heard of, I hadn’t heard of them. None of us had heard of Rose, Dan, AJ, Judy, Katie . I think it’s good that there’s a mix of people for different people to support. Tilly is famous - she needs to own it and be her own woman! She has accepted criticism and being in the do gracefully and has grown on me - as a person and dancer.
It did jar that Tilly got 40 - but how could she have done that dance better? AJ deserved 40 too. Rose’s wig and dress did her no favours - harsh and ugly, the delicate fairy look suits her better. The dress didn’t fit either and she looked, imo, worryingly thin.

I agree with the comments about Tilly. I'm not sure why Anton said she's a role model for his children. She's hard working and determined, but aren't they all? Why not Rhys or Rose as a role model? Maybe they saw something I didn't, but it wasn't a dance I enjoyed. Quite a long session with Tilly's family, again, not so much with other competitors to this point. Although maybe they'll be covered later, but it did seem to dominate.

Maireas · 21/11/2021 09:05

Maybe that was the problem for me, Gardening. The disgruntled school child vibe isn't appealing.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2021 09:30

She's younger than Rhys and Rose I guess. Also, she started presenting her TV programme when she was 14 and, as it's a kids programme, his children might see or have seen it.

lollipoprainbow · 21/11/2021 09:35

I don't see a privileged madam who's daddy got her where she is as being a role model for my child !! She's very sweet but that's about all. Her family get on my nerves too not so much Gordon but her simpering mum and sister.

mydogisthebest · 21/11/2021 09:50

I quite like Tilly but no way on earth was her dance worth 40. Just ridiculous.

When the judges started with all the gushing about her I said to DH "bet they give 4 10's to keep her out of the dance off". Low and behold that's exactly what they did.

Would love to know what Craig would have marked.

If that was supposedly a 40 why wasn't AJ's?

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 09:58

Whilst I think it is mathematically possible for someone at the top to end up in dance off, the judges can't let that person they gave 40 to (just less than 1.5 hours ago) versus any of the others unless they really mess up in dance off. So Tilly is safe.
Think Aj, Rose, Dan have a strong following. So think it's Rhys, John and Tom in danger.
John 32
Tom 31
Rhys 32

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 10:01

@mydogisthebest I watched Tilly back another two times and it really wasn't good. It seems to get worse with each watch. Yes she's a lovely girl, everyone is lovely, that shouldn't mean over marking.

The dance of the night was AJs.

lockdownalli · 21/11/2021 10:02

I actually hope Tilly isn't in the dance off so we don't have to watch that monstrosity again.

Yes - I know I can turn it off Grin

The 3 female judges gave AJ a standing ovation but then didn't all give 10's.

Pretty sure there were no standing ovations for Tilly

Elderflower14 · 21/11/2021 10:12

Have accidentally found out who's out... Won't say anything....

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 10:16

When the guest judge didn't give AJ a 10 I was surprised but then I thought she's probably being sensible and giving herself somewhere to go if there is an even more WOW dance, then she gave Tilly a 10 and I began to question everything about her!! Also thought Shirley comment about not knowing who the professional was patronising to Nikita.

lollipoprainbow · 21/11/2021 10:20

@bonfireheart yes he didn't look too happy about that comment !

boogiewithasuitcase · 21/11/2021 10:23

I wonder whether judges should watch each dance twice too as they, unlike us, see the live dance. Maybe they got carried away with Tilly's youthful energy. I don't understand how it could have scored higher than Rose's dance last week.

It always makes me laugh when the judges say the celeb danced as well as the pro or that they couldn't tell who the pro dancer was.

Those pro dancers have trained and danced for years and no way is someone who has only danced for a couple of weeks anywhere near as good.

ChessieFL · 21/11/2021 10:28

We do see the live dance boogie so not sure what you’re saying there? Confused

Sorry I haven't been clear. I meant that we at home watch it live on TV - the judges are there in the studio with the dancers, and perhaps with Tilly's dance they marked the energy of the dance, more so than the technical side of things.
bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 10:31

@boogiewithasuitcase the judges do see the dances twice because before the show they do a full rehearsal from beginning to end with the judges there.

boogiewithasuitcase · 21/11/2021 10:32

I still don't understand then why it was marked higher than Rose's dance last week.
