I watched later on iPlayer.
Other than Tom, I enjoyed all the performances. Cynthia hit the nail on the head with him ( and with John and Johannes) I enjoyed her feedback which was well-focused for musicals week. She kept her comments to the point and voted in line with the other scores (no 4/9 shockers
)
Amy danced beautifully, but Tom was just a (wooden) prop to facilitate what is otherwise a female solo. It could maybe be pulled off by a strong female celeb, but the whole concept was faulty, and not one of his dances has put a glow in me.
I like John and Johannes but there needs to be a gear change at this point. I want to see them in the final, but they need a bit more progression.
I enjoyed Dan's. A watered down charleston to the extent where he did a good job, but it was fun and enjoyable to watch.
Loved the performances from Rose and AJ. AJ's was her beautifully understated ballroom. Rose's was pure fun. Loved the integration of the signing that really enhanced the mime elements.
I enjoyed Rhys' too, but he is a bit like a daddy long legs on acid. While Nancy is well matched on energy, he needs some yin to his yang. I'm not ready for him to go just yet.
Tilly has grown on me a lot and she's a good journey dancer (and ahead of Dan). She danced the character of that particular song brilliantly and was evenly matched to Nikita. 40 is defensible on the grounds that on that particular dance, it was brilliantly excecuted with no real scope to improve it. The whole couples' choice thing is another issue though and it does release a dancer from much of the technical critique (Rhys benefited from this)
I wonder how it would work if there was a couples' choice week... it would make for fairer comparison on the leader board rather than someone like Tilly getting a well timed easier ride (not begrudging her, she's a few weeks ahead of some, but not my preferred finalist)
I really enjoyed this week's in terms of performance. Although my wifi kept cutting out around Tom's sister's cringe fest and I ended up fast forwarding because iPlayer kept resumung 10 seconds behind. I might have had to pretend that I'd said "for duck's sake" at that point and waffled to the kids about bread and ducks for a minute
Even my wifi can't cope with Tom!
