@GertrudeBElion

Russell Crowe pretending to be posho Brit

Not gonna lie, I loved his rendition of Stars

Roger Allam's version of Stars was way better.

DH and I were convinced Crowe was pissed tonight.

ChoccyJules · 20/11/2021 23:18

It was amusing that they got Russell Crowe as the Les Mis connection when he murdered the singing in his role. Still no idea how he got that part.

I assume the Tilly being marked higher than AJ was because AJ danced first tonight and the judges usually go safe on that one. By the end they were probably losing the will to live like many of us.

iklboo · 20/11/2021 23:26

@Claymorekick - nope. You're absolutely right. Out of time and off beat.

Maireas · 20/11/2021 23:26

"two Felonious Gru twins living it large"
😂😂😂 Sheldon, you always make me smile!!

OhWhyNot · 20/11/2021 23:33

I felt like Russell Crowe had no idea why he was he was there and just reading off a script he has never looked at before

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 20/11/2021 23:44

This star trundling is what we get when we whinge about the wheeling out of nans.

My favourite trundle is Sean Paul.

I have a backside for flattening things. But jeezo, Get Busy makes me want shake that thing and I loved Judi and Graz for dancing to it. And then his trundle out later?

Lovely stuff.

No need for nans.

BonnesVacances · 20/11/2021 23:54

I don't understand the Tilly hate tbh. It's not her fault the BBC keeps dragging Gordon out all the time. I think she comes out every week and pulls it off in an accomplished way. She's not at AJ or Rose's standard but she's better than the others imo.

The problem with Tilly's dance is that it was musical theatre, not Latin or ballroom. But it was completely in keeping with the theme of Musicals week. She was in trainers and it was supposed to be stompy as they were children dancing with attitude.

Cynthia gave it a 10, and I don't know why she'd do that if it wasn't. She didn't even give AJ a 10. I doubt she took the gig and would risk her reputation in the industry to be bought off by being told what marks to give whom.

That said, if you can't see it, you can't see it. I'm not a fan of Rhys and can't understand the judges' comments about him at all. I'm don't enjoy watching him dance and I don't think he does particularly well. I thought his Charleston was overrated. But I don't claim to know better than the judges. I just can't see it. I suspect this will be the same with Tilly.

bonfireheart · 20/11/2021 23:58

I really really wish someone would help j&j shake up their choreography. Feels like dancing by numbers, don't know how to describe it, love them both but they need to pull off something that is totally wow soon.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/11/2021 23:59

I'm in and have caught up! Thanks for the new thread Eine. Glitterball

Loved the opening dance, and AJ and Kai. Rhys wasn't as good as I thought he'd be. Rose wasn't either, but the wig was distractingly bad! I think it was more the music didn't quite work for her. Tom's was too wafty for me. Tilly's was a bit stompy, but very in sync. I enjoyed Dan's — nice and bright.

The boys could have been better as well. If John is better at leading ballroom, just let him lead and stop worrying about swapping! It isn't compulsory. It's confusing him — his head was turned far too far to the left when he led.

Overall though, I enjoyed it. I thought Cynthia was good at judging too.

ilovesooty · 21/11/2021 00:00

I hated that performance of Tilly's tonight but I've enjoyed most of her other dances. I don't want to see her in the dance off tomorrow. It would be crushing to top the leader board and know that so few people had voted for you you ended up in the bottom two.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 21/11/2021 00:01

Agreed bonfire

They have shone and should still shine.

I wish they could regain the sparkle.

bonfireheart · 21/11/2021 00:15

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams yes! I think it's all the swapping of who is leading. They need a dance with John leading and for it to be full on soppy and romantic - take a leaf out of AJ and Rose boom.

I enjoyed Tilly's dance! Or at least, I was impressed by it. It looked difficult and energetic and demanding, and she completely threw herself into it, and it was very different from anything else she's done. Not sure why she gets the hate for her dad being Gordon R: (a) not her fault and (b) he seems like a good dad? As for her being unable to take criticism, one of the things I admire about her is how level-headed and practical she is. She seems completely lacking in egotistical delusions.

I think John, Tom or Rhys could be in the dance-off. There is something very restrained and polite about J&J's dancing -- maybe because they don't want Middle England to faint at two men actually being romantic, so everything must be tastefully toned down unless the music itself calls for high drama. For me, the effect tonight was like watching them play a round of golf together.... Tom's was a bit amateur-dramatics, and I can't help thinking Rhys needs to get laid.

SamDees · 21/11/2021 01:05

I so agree with this.

John needs to let go - it's all a bit polite now,
Have they done the Argentine Tango yet?

Inkanta · 21/11/2021 06:31

Yes, I like how Tilly threw her body and spirit into that dance and looked like she loved it. That's what Strictly is about - being at one with the dance. Before last night I thought that she tended to hold herself back - do the steps and try not to get it wrong. So would like to see if she can go a bit further and hold that feeling.

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 21/11/2021 06:39

Isn’t there a massive problem with Dan in the bottom 2 though? He’s on record as saying he won’t work/dance on Sundays, being quite religious. So they either have to admit that the whole thing is done on Saturday, which we all know, but they cling to the pretence, or he has to go out without a dance?

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 21/11/2021 06:40
  • if/when Dan is in the bottom 2. I have no knowledge of this week.
ChessieFL · 21/11/2021 07:01

I would be really interested to know what scores Craig would have given. I wonder if they will have him on video on the results show?

Phineyj · 21/11/2021 07:37

Regarding Tilly, I had not heard of her before the show (nor HRVY last year) but my 8 year old wandered through the room a couple of weeks ago and said 'Oh look, it's Tilly, I know her.' It brings a different demographic.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/11/2021 08:04

I watched later on iPlayer.

Other than Tom, I enjoyed all the performances. Cynthia hit the nail on the head with him ( and with John and Johannes) I enjoyed her feedback which was well-focused for musicals week. She kept her comments to the point and voted in line with the other scores (no 4/9 shockers Grin )

Amy danced beautifully, but Tom was just a (wooden) prop to facilitate what is otherwise a female solo. It could maybe be pulled off by a strong female celeb, but the whole concept was faulty, and not one of his dances has put a glow in me.

I like John and Johannes but there needs to be a gear change at this point. I want to see them in the final, but they need a bit more progression.

I enjoyed Dan's. A watered down charleston to the extent where he did a good job, but it was fun and enjoyable to watch.

Loved the performances from Rose and AJ. AJ's was her beautifully understated ballroom. Rose's was pure fun. Loved the integration of the signing that really enhanced the mime elements.

I enjoyed Rhys' too, but he is a bit like a daddy long legs on acid. While Nancy is well matched on energy, he needs some yin to his yang. I'm not ready for him to go just yet.

Tilly has grown on me a lot and she's a good journey dancer (and ahead of Dan). She danced the character of that particular song brilliantly and was evenly matched to Nikita. 40 is defensible on the grounds that on that particular dance, it was brilliantly excecuted with no real scope to improve it. The whole couples' choice thing is another issue though and it does release a dancer from much of the technical critique (Rhys benefited from this)

I wonder how it would work if there was a couples' choice week... it would make for fairer comparison on the leader board rather than someone like Tilly getting a well timed easier ride (not begrudging her, she's a few weeks ahead of some, but not my preferred finalist)

I really enjoyed this week's in terms of performance. Although my wifi kept cutting out around Tom's sister's cringe fest and I ended up fast forwarding because iPlayer kept resumung 10 seconds behind. I might have had to pretend that I'd said "for duck's sake" at that point and waffled to the kids about bread and ducks for a minute Grin
Even my wifi can't cope with Tom!

I imagine they simply won't mention it. I had no idea Dan won't dance on a Sunday.
Gooseysgirl · 21/11/2021 08:11

Just watched back on iPlayer. AJ would have got all my votes. Tilly totally overmarked. J&J were disappointing - too much time wasted faffing. Dan I enjoyed but I think his time has come unless public vote saves him from the DO. I thought Toms was ok, but I'm not a fan and would be quite happy to see him go. I am definitely not one for conspiracy stuff but Tilly was ridiculously overmarked. Cynthia was ok, I think the leaderboard would have looked quite different if Craig was there.

NashvilleQueen · 21/11/2021 08:14

I haven't watched Frozen, do the characters usually break into the robot halfway through big numbers?

Yes. When they're sitting up by the clock and they mimic the mechanics of the hands moving by doing robot moves.

DontWantTheRivalry · 21/11/2021 08:15

I agree with those who are gob smacked by Tilly’s 40. When I was watching the dance (if it can be called that) I was thinking, “There's no way they are avoiding the dance off this week.”

What on earth were the judges thinking?!

I was so happy for Dan - I loved his dance! I thought the 7’s were a bit harsh - maybe the judges are trying to get him out.

J&J - I did like their dance but I agree with other that they seem to have lost their spark. There was one point where I thought it was inevitable they’d be in the final but now I’m not so sure.

I was a bit disappointed with Tom. I agree with the judges that he just needs to ‘let go’

I was disappointed with Rose and Gio too - I don’t think the quick step suited the song at all. So yes, it was my least favourite of theirs. Gio looked sexy in his outfit and boots but what did they do to his hair?!

I also felt a bit disappointed with AJ. When Chris Plummer sings that song in the film it’s one of my favourite scenes so I had high hopes and they just weren’t met. However, Kai looked very yummy in the opening dance.

Rhys and Nancy - I just find them a bit dull in general. Everything is the same from week to week.

I’m predicting a Rhys and Tom dance off, with Tom being eliminated.
