@MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers

Interesting that nobody has suggested Alesha Dixon 🤔
They wouldn't let her near the bar, not after she went on Graham Norton (I think), had a few glasses of wine and said "everybody was gagging for it" the year she was on the show. Grin

The problem with Craig dialing in is he would be restricted to what can be seen on the camera angle. We often only get a fleeting glance of the footwork, especially if the CGI guy has been given a musicals week budget.

@EsmaCannonball

Tilly is doing a Couple's Choice to Revolting Children from Matilda, so I suspect that will be her in trouble again.

Dan (Charleston to Good Morning from Singin' In the Rain), John (VW to Chim-Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins), AJ and Rhys all have good songs. Singin' In the Rain is my favourite musical.

Not keen on the music for Rose or Tom.

I do wish they'd widen the repertoire of musicals. Oklahoma!, Swing Time, High Society; there's loads of musicals with great songs that haven't been over-used.

Revolting Children is an interesting choice - it has a lot of slow/singspoken parts and minimal music so it will be interesting to see the choreography fit to the song ... if they were desperate to use Matilda for Tilly I would have thought something like When I Grow Up would have been a much better song to use

I saw Sara and Aljaž's Q&A on the Strictly Insta and someone asked what they would have been dancing to this week and Aljaž said it would have been a song from Six, and now I'm even more mad that she went out last weekend because I love that show and would love to see more contemporary musicals showcased.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/11/2021 15:33

If Ms Dixon came back, I’d be going out. In the cold.

Taking my chances with local neds and their Saturday night follies. And bring deafened by their cars. And trying not to skid on kebab spillage.

Oh that would have been fab!

melj1213 · 16/11/2021 16:03

Oh and Tom is doing Couples Choice to On My Own from Les Mis so it is clearly going to be a contempowaft and the fact that his sister's first major West End role was as Eponine will probably lead to another gushy smug family VT

I like Tom as part of McFly but he is so forgettable on this and yet so irritating at the same time and I just cannot get behind him.

I don't know Les Mis at all but am imagining it's a rather dreary song? Looking forward to Dan's Charleston to Good Morning, although obviously even for a good dancer (sorry Dan, love you) the original would be an impossible act to follow in any meaningful way.

I hope they do a good job of Revolting Children but think it could be tricky to choreograph (why do they insist on 'theming' things to slebs' names?!)

Chim-Chim Cher-ee will be lovely and dramatic.

Can't stand Edelweiss. How dull.

I LOVE Footloose (the song and the film). He'll be good, but is he getting rather too many dances that suit his style?

Don't really know Frozen that well but I hope AJ has a good week.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/11/2021 16:15

On My Own is beautiful ballad - not dreary, but it is a tear jerker when sung and performed well. If you don't know Les Mis it's well worth getting to know. I could probably sing the whole show for you, but you'd enjoy it more if you saw a professional production Grin

No, I'd love a Mumsnetter version Grin I could do you Cabaret in return but really no one needs to hear that.

Yup, the character is a poor beggar girl who is in love with Marius, one of the rich students, who has firmly friendzoned her, especially after he falls in love with another girl and the song is all about her feeling unloved and unwanted and basically martyring herself for him.

The theme is basically "I'm so sad he doesn't love me but as long as he is happy I'll suck it up and pretend to be happy for him but I'm also really sad about it, and why doesn't he love me?"

It is a beautiful song, in the context of the musical, but it is also really dreary and sad.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/11/2021 16:23

I sing in a big choir and we sing a version of Cabaret - I always wish we sang the verse about Elsie, but it's cleansed from the versions amateurs have the rights to!

That's a pity Grin I meant I could do you the whole musical. I bloody love Cabaret. In my fantasies I belt out 'Maybe This Time' just like Liza in RL it's like a tortured cat
Lampzade · 16/11/2021 16:32

Iain, Flavia or Karen Hardy to take over from Craig for the week
Come on BBC- give one of them a ring

Yes this. He’s no Harry Judd
WeAreTheHeroes · 16/11/2021 16:43

@IntermittentParps - there's a cabaret style version of Cabaret either on at the moment or imminent with Jessie Buckley as Sally Bowles and Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee.

I know. I'm torn. Jessie Buckley is a good singer and actor, but can anyone really be better than in the original? Are you going to see it?

I really would have loved to see this as it's my latest favourite musical - I wonder what song ? If we new the style of dance then we could add our guesses.

Iwantacampervan · 16/11/2021 17:21

knew!

Runningupthecurtains · 16/11/2021 17:30

I had hoped that any musicals weeks CC's would at least be theatre/jazz but it looks like we are in for barefoot wafting in Nan's spare net curtains.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 16/11/2021 17:56

And there will probably be footage of proud Nana handing over the curtains with a tear in her eye.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/11/2021 18:06

@IntermittentParps - you see I think Sally is not supposed to be that good. Liza Minelli was far too good a singer for the role. It sounds great, no idea of ticket prices and would have to kidnap DP to get him to go with me!

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/11/2021 18:08

Jaysus: the cheapest ticket is £120. Gulp.

No, I know. Chistopher Isherwood didn't approve of it for that reason; it misses the point of the novella.

But meeting the musical where it is, I just don't know if I want to see a different version…
