@ChessieFL

CHESSIE Shock

A Dan Voter In The Wild! Grin

SoupDragon · 15/11/2021 12:21

@Platax

Has Motsi ever been known to strike out with her own opinion and not go with the majority and/or the predictable choice when it comes to the dance-off?
The majority of 1 given only Craig has announced before her?

I assume their choices are locked in before they announce anyway.

She always goes second so this is a pointless question
Maireas · 15/11/2021 12:36

@ElftonWednesday

If they could produce television drama where the speech is audible to anyone other than bats, that would be a start. Lots of hearing people use subtitles and would like them for on-demand programmes too!
Isn't that true! I am not hearing impaired, but often struggle with dialogue in a lot of programmes.
Maireas · 15/11/2021 12:37

@ChessieFL , wise words.

Bobholll · 15/11/2021 12:47

Tom also gave his eldest an appalling name. Buzz is just terrible. Buddy is meh. Max is normal.

I’m convinced they are named after Christmas characters. Buzz in Home Alone. Buddy the elf. Max the dog in The Grinch 😂

IntermittentParps · 15/11/2021 12:52

I liked Jamie. He clearly loved dancing, was respectful to his partner, put in the graft, and was unfailingly gracious when receiving criticism and scores and every time he landed in the DO. Many people in his position have been less than polite and had faces like cat's arses and an attitude problem. I won't hear a word against him and his Strictly time.

It's not pointless to ask about Motsi's DO decisions. Yes, she goes early in the order, so doesn't get to choose whether or not to go with the majority; but she could still end up on the 'wrong'/non-predictable choice ie Craig votes 'predictable', Motsi votes 'non-predictable' and then Anton votes 'predictable'.

ChessieFL · 15/11/2021 13:00

I don’t think there’s been much disagreement at all in the dance off this year, has there? I think there has only been one occasion this series when Shirley’s vote has actually mattered - I think in all other cases the other three judges have all agreed with each other. I think usually Shirley agrees with the other judges anyway, although I know she disagreed with them last week (maybe the week before) although that didn’t affect anything. Seems a bit unfair to pick on Motsi for agreeing with the others when you could just as easily pick on Craig or Anton for the same thing. I agree with SoupDragon that they will all already have submitted their choices before they speak anyway precisely so they can’t be influenced by each other.

melj1213 · 15/11/2021 13:01

But a lot of the time the "predictable" choice is also the obvious choice, so of course Motsi is going to make that choice.

If two dances are literally inseparable then I could understand it being a true 50/50 split and any of thr judges could go either way, but a lot of the time it is really obvious that one couple has performed better/made less mistakes/taken on board the feedback and upped their game in the DO etc and therefore the judges decision is effectively made for them.

ElftonWednesday · 15/11/2021 13:07

I think the judges have a good balance at the moment, though their scoring can be very weird. Shirley and Anton have the technical knowledge and make a lot of comments on technique. Motsi does too but seems to focus on the performance and makes more complimentary comments. Craig shoots from the hip and also makes constructive comments. I couldn't stand Bruno, Len or Arlene. I'm not that keen on Shirley but it's more when she starts being herself rather than sticking to the judging.

Maireas · 15/11/2021 13:10

I certainly think it's better without Bruno.
Anton seems to be more measured and informative. He gives good, clear advice.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 15/11/2021 13:51

Another one here who hugely warmed to Jamie through the series

SoupDragon · 15/11/2021 14:02

Tom also gave his eldest an appalling name.

Maybe it was his wife's choice.

SoupDragon · 15/11/2021 14:07

Yes, she goes early in the order, so doesn't get to choose whether or not to go with the majority; but she could still end up on the 'wrong'/non-predictable choice ie Craig votes 'predictable', Motsi votes 'non-predictable' and then Anton votes 'predictable'.

It is pointless though as she's giving her own choice in complete ignorance of how the others vote. I wouldn't have said last night was particularly predictable as (unless you subscribe to the Gordon conspiracy theory) they were pretty close.

If a choice is predicatable' it's because they were obviously better - like when a good but unpopular dancer ends up against a poor one.

Shiveringsward · 15/11/2021 14:09

I'm surprised by all the negative comments about Motsi's judging and appearance on here. I always think she looks fab, and her critiques are quite "real" instead of the usual formulaic comments. I love her dynamism and forthrightness. It works to have a variety of styles and approaches on the judging panel I think. And its a huge relief that Anton has left behind the rather cringey joke routine he had as a performer and is comfortable enough to be himself as a judge and it turns out he offers excellent technical advice and is rather nice bloke to boot.

Redcrayons · 15/11/2021 14:24

Anton has been a revelation as a judge, constructive, encouraging and fair. I liked Bruno, but I haven’t missed him.

Motsi is a bit meh as a judge for me. I love her style. She wear some really wtf dresses, but completely leans into it.

IntermittentParps · 15/11/2021 14:24

I made clear that I was talking specifically about Motsi making the predictable or non-predictable choice in terms of who a viewer (and quite probably the judges) would judge to be the most likely to be saved, not how they're going to score.

But I was totally wrong last night; I thought Sara was the predictable choice and they'd save her!

StevieNicksscarf · 15/11/2021 14:26

I usually lurk on here just because I love to see what others think about Strictly but I'm really surprised by the comments about Dan, and his "fan base". Me and 13 yr old DD often vote for Dan. Not because we are "fans" as prior to Strictly he wasn't really on my radar apart from the bloke on the sofa on Breakfast tv when I'm usually busy making sandwiches for school etc.

We often vote for him because we enjoy his dances. We like Nadiya and him together and that's about it really. We don't have particular allegiances and have probably voted for nearly all the contestants at one point or another. When voting comes around we generally choose the dances that we enjoyed watching the most - it's really that simple.

I just don't get why pps think Dan has less right to be still there than the others. Strictly has never been just about the best dancers has it? I loved watching Bill last year but I'm not sure he was technically the best dancer.

GrrrlPwr · 15/11/2021 14:26

Motsi looks incredible every week. I wish I had her confidence.

Anton is a million times a better judge than Bruno. He is constructive and generally lovely. Sometimes funny. Not contrived falling off chair like Bruno.

Plus how can the BBC justify paying for weekly first class flights back and forward from USA? As that's what Bruno does. He couldn't in lockdown and I hope it stays that way.

Tess is very beautiful! She's not a brilliant presenter, but to be given the promotion to hosting the show instead of being the dolly blond sidekick really was a first.

And when Bruce was still hosting she actually kept all the timings together, as Bruce wouldn't wear an ear piece. Whereas Tess and Claude do.

Claude is an inspiration. Hope she shuts down Dan next week!

I agree about Anton; he's a pleasure to listen to on the panel.

I don't mind Motsi. I think what she says is sometimes meaningless, but I do like how she encourages people and praises them for less 'tangible' things like effort and confidence. I love her style too; it's often off the wall and I have to applaud her for that Grin

GrrrlPwr · 15/11/2021 14:29

I don't post much, but do read all the strictly threads for a few years now.

I have to say they is a common theme of
'i don't know why I don't like him/her' 'I just can't warm to him/her' ... and it's ethnicity of the celeb. I don't think it's on purpose racism, but an unconscious bias. I've probably opened a can of worms here, but that what I've observed

Samcro · 15/11/2021 14:38

weird post. I feel that way about Tom and he is white......

JayAlfredPrufrock · 15/11/2021 15:09

Me too re Tom.

But Rhys annoys me as well.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 15/11/2021 15:16

I don’t think so grrl - I am sad you feel that way.

I didn’t warm to Maisie and I didn’t warm to Alexandra Burke. I couldn’t be done with Emma Barton nor could I be doing with Karim. Helen George I couldn’t take to either.

All to do with them feeling like ringery stage school peeps. All I could hear swirling round my head was ‘tits and teeth’

Plenty others disagreed with me.

I find Tess and Motsi and Darcy and Bruno equally irritating.

Zero to do with colour.

MareofBeasttown · 15/11/2021 15:19

As I have said before, I love all the ringers regardless of race:) I can't bear Motsi, but I love Oti.
