Fabulous acting by Zaraah Abrahams in that episode.

As a side note we have just watched one of the classic episodes 'Pat and Frank' and it was so much better than any of the stuff we get today :(

SinisterBumFacedCat · 28/12/2021 00:29

@Meredusoleil

Really did NOT like the way Denise palmed Chelsea off onto Gray. She only just recently said to her daughter that when was still her baby. I don't think I could turn my daughter down like that and alarm bells would be ringing as to why she didn't want her hubby with her in the delivery room! Now Chelsea's going to feel even more isolated and like her own mum won't believe/help her!
Yes I got very angry at the tv and called Denise an idiot, listen to your daughter! Grrr.

They seem to be saving Grays denouncement for the 50th anniversary.

I imagine that whatever domestic abuse charity “advised” Eastenders on the Chantelle storyline a year ago are feeling a bit exploited now.
It was only ever going to be sensationalist bollocks.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2021 06:50

I suppose that the charity the writers originally consulted is a bit upset how badly the Chantelle story has been handled , but they did get some things right ( Gray being manipulative and the gaslighting and so on ) but It is also a fictional soap opera and the writers need to keep the viewers watching , if he had ended up behind bars straight away then they would have only replaced him with another ' baddie ' I suppose to kill off Tina and Kush.
Maybe seeing how he will be with Chelsea now might be more powerful , the constant ' red flags ' how he'll make her be under his control how vulnerable women are after having a baby and how easily men like Gray can chip away at your self esteem, even strong women like Chelsea.
It's not been perfect, but if it helps someone escape an abuse relationship then maybe some good might come out of this.
Plus maybe lockdown restrictions last year may have altered the storylines a bit too?
I'm just sad that Denise n Mitch are not seeing her distress , especially Dee who was a victim herself :( that is far fetched

JacquelineCarlyle · 28/12/2021 10:35

I agree @the80sweregreat

Not that I want it to happen but if he js staying in for a while longer, then seeing him chip away at Chelsea and her suffering the same level of abuse as Chantelle (& then ultimately escaping it) would probably do a lot of good.

We never saw how he was with Chantelle originally as they arrived married and he was already abusive. Plus even though her family were there, they were partly estranged, whereas seeing someone with a strong family background being abused would likely also be helpful to some people watching (and not that it's ever in doubt, but clearly does show that the abuser is the one in the wrong, in no way is it the victim's fault as you can be a strong, intelligent woman from a great family and it happens to you as equally as someone who is less strong, no real family support or has had a miserable life before ending up with an abuser). None of it is the victim's fault.

I really hope they handle this well and he doesn't become a pantomime villain.

I thought Zaarah Abraham's acting when giving birth was incredible. Otherwise, I'm feeling pretty deflated by the whole storyline so far. Don't get me wrong, I think it would have been premature for Gray to get caught this Christmas/New Year. His character has so much more to explore and to give. But the whole, having to watch him abuse Chelsea now is going to be difficult to watch. But I guess that's the whole point. I hope that they do the storyline justice as a pp said, with Chantelle's storyline, we didn't get to see much of the actual emotional/physical abuse so that the point really hit home. I do hope they execute the whole story in a lot more detail this time around.

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2021 13:22

We did see Gray punch Chantelle in the stomach, that was horrible
I didn't see the scene with the dishwasher as I wasn't watching it then , I just couldn't. Not because of any triggering on my part , but because it was just so sad.
I just skipped a few episodes back then.
Chelsea will be so vulnerable now , a very premature baby , her mum and family not understanding , only Whitney and Kheerat on her side. They will be kept away by him no doubt! It'll be depressing, but let's hope he is caught this time around.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2021 16:16

24w

Doesn’t look that preg

Is it def grays baby

Def wasn’t a 24w baby born

Was bigger then the 36w baby I’m looking after at the moment 😱🙄😁

But Scenes made my nose tingle giving birth

I thought Zaarah Abraham's acting when giving birth was incredible.

I think she also did well when scared of having to be with Gray. Very convincing.

gingercat02 · 28/12/2021 17:40

Charlie Cotton (My Charleeee as Dor used to croon ) was having a fling with Dots sister (Rose)

I think Charlie and Rose were bigamists and were married iirc

Agreed. Up until now, I've actually found her acting pretty sub par. Yesterday's performance changed my mind in this respect. Looks like we're in for a longer episode tonight, I just checked. 8:15-9pm I think it said. Yay Smile
Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2021 18:18

I’m hoping it won’t be his baby

Grasps straws

Maybe will need a blood transfusion

He will go mental and attempt to kill her

Meredusoleil · 28/12/2021 18:23

8.10pm-9pm tonight apparently 😮

Not only did Chelsea not look 24 weeks pregnant, but not pregnant at all I would say!

In a way, I do hope it isn't Gray's baby so she can cut all ties with him and get the he'll away from him forever without worrying he is going to come and take her baby away 🧐

Jellykat · 28/12/2021 20:25

Whitneys like a bull in a China shop, why cant she listen to Kheerat and play the long game, especially as Chelseas baby is so ill!

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2021 20:46

Janine is playing with fire here a bit !
Nice to see L though. She looks well

Jellykat · 28/12/2021 20:52

Getting bored now..

Queenofchips · 28/12/2021 20:57

This is so bloody boring

Meredusoleil · 28/12/2021 20:59

Janine has got a point though: Mick should have just gone to Elaine's pub to speak to Linda face to face.

KingofQueens · 28/12/2021 21:40

Bloody hell, did we really need 20 mins of that conversation just so Janine could get a photo of Linda with a glass of wine.

I agree Zaarah Abrahams has really stepped up the game over the festive episodes.

SpanishFly · 28/12/2021 21:47

I think ZA is great, she's been good as the petulant princess up til now, and is great as a scared wife/new mum.

Janine is being wasted right now. Such a lot of promise having her back, I hope they step up soon.

lazymum99 · 28/12/2021 21:49

Too long and boring.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/12/2021 22:08

I haven't heard Raymond chat , but who's betting he'll ask Phil "Daddy are you going to prison for a long, long time"?
The way Eastenders DC say when they're just sitting at the table eating beans on toast

the80sweregreat · 28/12/2021 22:12

If Phil is leaving for prison for a long time , then I hope he gets a proper EE exit!
They are taking their time arresting him.

Exactly what I was thinking! Children aren't deaf. The way Jack and Dee were talking around him, it wasn't exactly very discrete was it 🤦
Jellykat · 28/12/2021 22:18

Agree, Raymond is bound to repeat that conversation in some way!
