I think the the same sex partnership would have been stronger and more impactful if the professional partner was not gay. Then it would have been all about the dance and not about the sex.

Tom is juts kind of not sexy and not suave and not romantic. It's odd. He seems a bit cold.

To begin with, John requested a straight partner but then decided that he wanted Johannes.

I also suspect that the Fletcher brand is so utterly dependant on the happy marriage vibe that they darent do anything even remotely Katya-ish
