Next week will be interesting. Sara's q/s might be nice, but 9–5 theming is probably going to be annoying. AJ might be great at the Charleston, or her Bambi legs might re-appear. I hope Jojo gets his choreographical mojo back, I haven't really got properly into their last few dances and rumba is a tricky one!

Evening everyone I'm mainly lurking as don't really have to time to post and I catch up when insomnia & hot flushes hit in the middle of the night but thought I'd say a quick hello ...
I'm really loving the series this year, a bit of light relief for sure.
My faves are also Rose & Gio and Aj & Kai.
Thought both women performed incredible routines at the weekend, and they really should be so proud of themselves.
As for love, I don't really care tbh, and generally ignore, but got to say, I think Gio could be in line for having his heart broken this year.. I genuinely think he adores Rose, but I don't think its reciprocal.
On the J&J samey thing, I was thinking about this last night...is it because it's 2 men? no light and shade from a female dancer or room for gorgeous dresses, different styles, hair, make up twirling around the floor? Does it feel samey because there is nothing that reflects me/ representative in their dance? Love to hear your thoughts on this... have probably really over thought it, but was so excited to see them dance in the beginning and now feel totally ..meh!

I think J&J are definitely missing the floaty dresses that add a lot of movement to the dances.

I usually rate dances on how many times I rewatch them on YouTube. And I can't stop watching Tilly's dance this week. I just loved the theming and characterisation (to pinch the judges' phrase) and Nikita seemed a little bit sexier when he didn't look like a 12 year old boy.

There was Rachel Riley and Pasha. I didn't watch the whole of that series though (it was my first - I came in near the end) so I don't know how that was covered on the show.

Rachel was such a wooden dancer. I will forever remain surprised that Pasha fancied her!

just had a quick look on YouTube... R&G's tango has 463k views, followed by Tilly on 125k and AJ on 102k... everyone else is miles behind ..

If they put them both in proper tail suits (either matching or contrasting) I think you'd get a little bit more of the floating. Although having said that I think male/male couples often look more athletic than elegant.

The other thing with same-sex couples which makes it look different is that for good ballroom you want to match your hip height. Girls have longer legs relative to their body than boys do. If I dance with a girl it generally feels best if we're roughly the same height, no more than an inch or two either way. With a boy, about 6-8" taller than me works best.

Obviously it depends on the body shape of the two people, and is perfectly possible to dance outside that range, but in mixed sex couples, you'll usually see a height difference. So that can also look a bit odd when you see same-sex couples, because you're not used to seeing couples the same height.

I agree with the height thing. It threw me watching their quick step. It’s like their heads got it the way of each other! I guess it is because I’m used to seeing the height difference.

J&J haven’t had any romantic dances yet. Well, American Smooth I suppose but that was just weird choreography. They just kinda danced around each other. It wasn’t remotely romantic.

They’ve had two macho dances. A Charleston. A quickstep. They’ve yet to have say a foxtrot or waltz or VW. Something floaty. They are the only couple to not do really ..

I hoped they’d get a Rumba but I kinda hoped they’d get something floaty this week. Be nice to see them bring some romance & love to their partnership. My best friend is gay & has happily been married for many years now. He’s said that it feels quite important to him to show a softer side to a gay partnership. That’s it’s not all aggressive, macho tangos & pasos. That there is love & romance and he’s a bit disappointed to have not seen that yet in comparison to say Rose or Tilly..

Forgot how- I don't think we're different in terms of feeling cold (like I say he drives with window down in the winter) but I'd prefer to put on a cardy than pay that sort of money

So, 'leaked' voting figures today show that Tom hot the highest % of the vote in week 5. Really??!! And Adam got third highest but still ended up in the dance off.

Are these the leaks from the weekend or newer ones? It does seem implausible.

If Adam was in the DO then this week Sara, Dan, Tom, Rhys and John must have all scored higher than him. Given that we assume that Rose is also piling up the votes that puts him no higher than seventh. It would be a huge swing over the course of a week unless people really did just clock him wiggling his arse in those jeans last week and leap to the phone.

What IMO is extraordinary about Adam is that in no way is he a ringer, he's a swimmer ! Working very hard at the dancing and getting there. Almost in spite of Katya who doesn't seem to quite know how to cope with him.

Though whoever thought of that ghost in the piano number was a genius. It did not deserve to be in the DO. It actually shocked me when she came out of it

I wouldn't take much notice of the so called leaked voting figures.

It didn't surprise me that Adam was in the bottom 2 .He was only one place above Dan and Dan seems to be very popular, so he'll eat him in the public votes.

To be honest Adam hasn't had a decent dance since the cha cha cha in week 1. The AT was mostly Katya rather than him dancing.

"Leaked" voting figures are almost always made up rubbish - the BBC have never revealed voting numbers, never mind broken it down to percentages/proportional voting for individual couples, even when people have made FoI requests for the data.

Yes this! I expected Adam to go on and improve but he really hasn’t which does seem in part to Katya throwing the kitchen sink at everything.

That Viennese waltz had so much potential & the creeping out of the piano beginning was very effective but then instead of just doing a simple but fabulous waltz we had floor bothering and ankle dragging for no reason

Yeah, I’ve never felt there to be any chemistry between Gio and Rose….he does look at her adoringly but she just seems to see him and treat him like a mate.

I think he looks at most people adoringly though.

He can look at me adoringly anytime he likes. I thought he and Rose were fantastic on Saturday.

this time I think it genuine adoration though... even my very unobservant husband commented on it Saturday night. I almost feel sorry for him...
but I also agree with the posts about J+J.. it is the lack of swoony romantic dances I think ... a bit of heart melting romance needed please
