I really considered cutting my losses and giving up Corrie for good as it so awfully unbelievable. But I have been watching it for as long as I remember - I'm 54 and remember watching with my mom when I was very small. I don't think I'm quite ready to let go yet Confused Anyone else fell the same?

Yes MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers I'm another one who thinks it's utter rubbish now, but still watching. Over the years I've weaned myself off all other soaps but can't manage it with Corrie. I've been addicted since the first episode, I'm a hopeless case!

My cat's partial to a cheese Quaver by the way.

Im the same, its a link to my childhood . Like a cup of tea and a kitkat, about the same level of satisfaction!

I'm the same! I'm old enough to remember Florrie Lindley, Ena Sharples, Ken in black and white and Minnie Caldwell !

eggandonion · 06/12/2021 12:06

Minnie was like my great aunts, they wore the same clothes and twittered away Smile

Report
Roussette · 06/12/2021 12:12

Oh yes! When I was a child I had two spinster great aunts almost similar to Ena and Minnie that I used to visit
Although neither had Ena's sharp tongue. They were so sweet

Lovely Minnie Caldwell and her cat. Martha Longhurst, now she was a bit of a sourpuss!

Great characters, loved a milk stout if I remember correctly.

Yep me too! I'm only early 20s but I haven't missed an episode since I was in year 4😂 (I used to sneakily watch the omnibus on the weekend when my mum was asleep!)
I just can't seem to be able to give it up

I gave up on EastEnders, which I never thought I would, but I don’t think it ever had quite the same place in my heart as Corrie. Although I would quite like the special version of the theme they use when someone important leaves played at my funeral Grin

No pressure...but do we need a new thread Grin
I liked Elsie Tanner, my mums friend worked in a department store with blousy women, just like her. I also use the expression fancy piece , which is inappropriate nowadays.

I've just looked up Jed Stone, Minnie's lodger. He left the show when he went to prison for handling stolen blankets, the rascal.

They obviously didn't have a permanent prison set in those days.

I could be you, absolutely loved it, but now... Meh
I stopped watching EE years ago because it was shit, CS writers seem to think corrie is the EEs of the North
It's not
CS had a gentle charm and humour to it. An underlying sense of community that we all loved and wanted to be part of
Who really wants to watch murders, affairs, shootings, arson and suicides on repeat?
They need to stop competing and start leading again. Cull half the cast and concentrate on characters their audience can relate to
Multiple people in one or two houses = believable, multiple families in ever expanding houses with added doors and bedrooms that have never been there before is complete nonsense
And add some bloody humour
The end Grin

I’ve given up on eastenders too in the last few weeks.

I’d love to not have to give up on Corrie but they’ve really got to get their shit together sharpish. There’s very little holding me on.

Absolutely

Totally agree. I never got into EE, too much shouting and robberies and doom and gloom and when EE started, Corrie was just not like that.

I agree too that they should just concentrate on the characters a bit more and not be looking for next huge drama... also I'm sick of drug running and too many teens.

Bring back busty barmaids and fancy pieces. Bring back liz and her wardrobe and Andy. Not Katie, that was a bad idea.
Bring back Jason.

These writers are stuck in the 80’s with these storylines. No way would Daniel be giving lifts and touching summers arm. Just wouldn’t happen. Teachers are coached to within an inch of their lives on this stuff.

Also Mrs Phil is like a cross between Hyacinth and cruella.

They really haven’t left their homes in years, have they?
