...After Sunday night's show we'll say "boo!" to one more 👻

The is the spooky Hallowe'en night spoiler-free Strictly thread! 🎃 Glitterball 🎃

I'm setting it up a bit early, because I don't think I'll be able to watch live, and the previous thread is almost at an end. Check over there first to see if it's still going before posting on this one. Halloween Smile

Onlinedilema

I thought Tom and John were the ringers this year.

I think they are. John’s wearing a bit thin for me now, and Tom’s just not ringy enough

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/10/2021 12:05

Was Faye really a ringer @Platax or just viewed as such?

If she was a ringer, Gio seems to get a lot of them - has he had any duffers? I'd say Ranvir was probably the worst and she did so well (unless I'm forgetting any). I put his success down to his superb teaching and showcasing of his partners - he is fab!

orangeautumnleaves · 31/10/2021 12:10

Sorry if I sound stupid but what is a ringer in strictly language??

JacquelineCarlyle · 31/10/2021 12:11

Someone who has had significant dance experience so is not a newbie to dance at all and generally starts at a very high level.

orangeautumnleaves · 31/10/2021 12:21

@JacquelineCarlyle ahh ok. That makes sense, yes Faye was a ringer in that case.

Going back to that series why was Ashley Roberts always in the DO? She was clearly another ringer, but some of her dances were awesome! I am guessing she just was not a popular personality but then there have been other unpopular personalities who didn't pull off the dances like she did who didn't get in the DO all the time like she did, every single week I think!

EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2021 12:25

Americans have never got the votes on Strictly for some reason. And Ashley was the ringiest ringer of them all.

EsmaCannonball · 31/10/2021 12:27

I've seen the leaked voting figures and, even if true, I don't think they are necessarily meaningful. At this stage in the competition voting for the celebs at risk is a big factor. Last night, for example, my two favourite celebs were at the top of the leaderboard and my favourite dance of the night, Tilly's, was in third place. I didn't want to waste my votes so I attempted to rescue Dan instead. Switching allegiances once a favourite has been knocked out is also a factor. Had Ugo still been in the competition I probably would have been voting for him instead of Dan. It's a bit like American presidential primaries; when candidates drop out, who do their supporters switch their votes to?

StopGoQuitStart · 31/10/2021 12:30

Did anyone else think Nikita looked just like Ted Danson with his hair makeup?!

Love Rose and AJ - I hope they both in final. John is lovely but JJ is getting on my nerves and needs to stop pedalling “oh this has made my life dancing with a strong man” and get on with giving decent choreography and showcasing his celebrity. It all feels a bit high expectations poorer reality for John right now which is a shame as I think he is good. Dan’s lovely and clearly up for putting his all into it - think he will be around few more weeks as just a “nice” bloke. Tom is very forgetful and yet he was the only celebrity I felt I had properly heard off. I didn’t miss them on their off week and I was struggling to remember that ho had to dance at the end and had totally forgotten about him Confused I have a feeling he thought he’d do better and have more publicity buzz around him.

I love Sara but that wasn’t her best and as someone else said didn’t really tie in the her VT story (family is amazing and so supportive blah blah now here I am dancing bondage stuff to prove it Confused). However, A is that outfit Blush yes please (and Gio!) I had assumed being CC they’d have a really good week and didn’t manage to vote this week so I’ll be guttered if she goes home.

Does anyone else get really annoying the the big delay in the show being on iplayer after it’s ended. Sometimes im settling children to sleep and don’t manage to watch live or even catch end so I can “watch from start” then I find myself waiting ages for it to come up on iplayer. I don’t have any way to record it. Means im up too late.

Overall it was a very bland Halloween episode. Didn’t seem very haloweeny to me really and the pro dance was poor.

Because lots of the public don't vote for ringers - it's not about liking or not liking them it's about the "journey" and feeling that the point of the show is seeing someone learn to dance not just watching a great dancer. Danny Mac was amazing I still watch his dances fairly regularly all these years later but I didn't give him a single vote. Likewise the lovely Debbie and Ashley for me they just have way too much dance experience.

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 31/10/2021 12:38

Tom continues to do nothing wrong and yet I continue to dislike him intensely - don't get it and I love Amy so need to give myself a shake

I think it's because he's so bland. Nice enough bloke but not really all that engaging.

EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2021 13:04

I agree it's really annoying that it takes so long to come up on iPlayer.

TheMadGardener · 31/10/2021 13:09

I love Amy but I think Tom comes across as a bit smug. Maybe he signed up thinking, "McFly have a massive fanbase, my bandmate won Strictly, my wife won IACGMOOH, the fans are bound to carry me to the final." And, we don't know yet, maybe he does have enough fans to get him to the final even if he doesn't deserve it. But he won't win because Rose and Gio are a dead cert now (injury and Covid permitting).

I loved the JoJo partnership for the first few weeks but I agree that their dances are becoming a bit same-y now. Johannes needs to step up with some more engaging choreography. Otherwise they won't reach the final. The novelty value of the M/M couple has worn off.

I've always found Nadiya quite forgettable in previous years despite being gorgeous. Dan is her best partner - they are working hard at putting out engaging social media videos, etc, and she is showing more personality. Think he will be around for a few more weeks on the strength of his Breakfast/sports TV fanbase.

Rose and Gio deserved their 40 but the Medusa routine that AJ did last night was the most engaging - the one that I rewatched and loved the drama of. But I am sure she is safe so voted to save Dan and Sara.

Yeah I did wonder if it was an American thing? The only reason I singled her out is is she was literally in the DO every week where other ringers, such as Faye never were. So it must be more than just been a ringer?
FuzzyPuffling · 31/10/2021 13:31

I think most people don't vote for ringers as they like to imagine themselves in the position of celeb. How would their own "journey" go? Who would they be paired with? What would be their best dance? What fab costume would they want?...etc

As most of us are not trained dancers (ie ringers) our allegiance (and votes) are with the new starters. We can imagine ourselves in their place.

BonnesVacances · 31/10/2021 13:41

Re James Jordan's snippy comment on Twitter, I don't think he's won any competitions (except Dancing on Ice). He and Ola competed at the same time as Darren & Lilia who won everything. The year Darren & Lilia retired from amateur competition, and which would have likely been James & Ola's chance to win, they didn't compete in the British Championships as they were on Children in Need or similar instead.

covetingthepreciousthings · 31/10/2021 13:44

@MareofBeasttown

I would like more ringers tbh.
I know it's an unpopular viewpoint, but so would I.

I'd also love to see an 'all star' strictly, but not with the winners necessarily, as it would need to have Danny so he could finally be crowned..

StormyCornishSeas · 31/10/2021 13:46

This would make a great children in need or Christmas special

Chipstick10 · 31/10/2021 13:54

I can’t take to AJ at all. She shouts over everyone. I also get the impression she isn’t exactly humble. She doesn’t engage me or blow me away with her dancing. 🤷‍♀️.
Tom looked crestfallen last night and although I’m sure I am wrong on this snd it could’ve just been massive nerves snd disappointment I get the impression he and his sister have been told they are the best all their lives. He comes across as a bit entitled. It doesn’t help that I can’t stand his smug wife
Tilly’s routine was great. I really enjoyed it snd she seems more humble than I exprected.
Rose and Gio …. Wow.

lollipoprainbow · 31/10/2021 14:11

@Chipstick10 me neither she bores me and I don't like the flirting thing with Kai either !! Not keen on Tom and his smug wifey either.

StCharlotte · 31/10/2021 14:13

Are we saying Kelvin wasn't a ringer?

Having said that Abby and Stacey were both consistently good despite apparently not having danced before.

I did ballet from tiny to late teens. Tried ballroom in my early teens and my brain just couldn't compute so I'm not sure I would have much advantage although I'd always have "good arms" and could point my toes when required. Other than that, nah.

Elderflower14 · 31/10/2021 14:18

You seem to have a dig at Tom and his wife quite regularly!!! ShockConfusedHmm

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/10/2021 14:21

Kelvin was a child star but very much only played one part. I don't know that there is much call for Jazz Hands down on the farm

Lolo19901900 · 31/10/2021 14:30

I thought it was a great Halloween special. Giovanni and Rose were superb, I do hope that she manages to improve her Latin however. Agree that John and Johannes need to do something to ignite the spark again, as they started off the series brilliantly. AJ and Kai now…I feel awkward for them. Kai seems like a gent and a professional. If there is an attraction between them, which I do think there is, they need to agree to leave it until the end of the show. Not sure what anyone else thinks, but the whole VT with the nephew felt a bit contrived, almost as if he’d been told to tell them to kiss. It would be horrible for Kai and AJ to fall out or have tensions about this whole thing, as I do think that they compliment each other.

lollipoprainbow · 31/10/2021 14:38

@Elderflower14 I've never mentioned Tom or his wife before think you are confusing me with someone else ?

Elderflower14 · 31/10/2021 14:49

@lollipoprainbow

I hope it's Giovanni and rose, Maura is so fake and overdone and rose is a natural beauty.

I also hope Tom and Amy if only to wipe the smug grin off his wife's face. Yes I admit it I'm a cow !
Are you sure??? 🙄 🙄 🙄
