The is the spooky Hallowe'en night spoiler-free Strictly thread! 🎃 🎃

I'm setting it up a bit early, because I don't think I'll be able to watch live, and the previous thread is almost at an end. Check over there first to see if it's still going before posting on this one.

I think it was also a big deal for Gio as he's been top of the leaderboard every Halloween that he's been there for (they went on about it on ITT) so getting 40 sealed it again for him this year.

I have no desire to see AJ and her quivering lips right near kai's face as she did last week thank you very much !! If they are getting it on they should save it for after the show has ended it felt strangely uncomfortable watching them knowing that they are probably an item.

Be quite interesting to see the actual voting figures after the show to see if there is any rigging going on

Someone has leaked the voting figures so I know who the top four are in general it seems. Surprised at one of them tbh.

I won't ask the names (don't ant to know) but people don't always vote based on the dancing.

I thought Tom and John were the ringers this year.

The BBC doesn't release voting figures at all. Every now and again we get a leak (this latest one looks a bit suspect though) but they've refused all FOI requests.

John definitely, not so sure about Tom.

At this point, I vote on who I want to see again, which doesn't always line up with the dancing. When it gets towards the end, that changes, but at the moment I'd vote for Dan over Rhys.

how is John a ringer?

John did pretty serious dance lessons in his teens - so maybe not an actual ringer but with solid dance foundations and certainly not starting from scratch like Adam, Dan, Sara or AJ.

I'd say a ringer is someone who's danced for a living to some extent or done a dance degree like Debbie, Caroline, Jay or Danny.

You can tell John has had a lot of lessons by the way he finishes off movements - he dances all the way to the ends of his fingertips, etc, and has done from the first dance.

I would like more ringers tbh.

I'm a bit sceptical about AJ in the ringer stakes - it's difficult to see how someone could get to be that good so quickly from a totally standing start. At the very least she's apparently heavily into exercising, so is probably very used to working to music and may have done something like Dancercise.

My thoughts on last night...

Judges, Tess and Claudia all looked bloody amazing although the opening Pro Dance was a shocker - worst I've seen proba ly and I've only missed one series from rhe beginning! Neil as creepy Pinnochio certainly didn't help...

I want J&J to do a romantic dance - really showcase their chemistry. I know you can't do that with a Quickstep, and I quite liked theirs, but it's time they did something tender and connected, if you know what I mean.

Aj & Rose were phenomenal - so good in different ways and I loved Aj's Medusa get up! Did give Aj a vote.

I liked Rhys but agree, there was something a bit off with his posture and energy - real shame as I think being in the DO really knocked him and he seems like such a happy soul. Hope he avoids it this week - I voted for him.

Tom continues to do nothing wrong and yet I continue to dislike him intensely - don't get it and I love Amy so need to give myself a shake.

The rest were all a bit 'meh' although have to shout out Aljaz in his Sex Dungeon outfit.. Good GOD! Since Brendan left - who was the very best of the best, well... after Matthew Cutler - I think he's my favourite pro! Seems a shame he messed up and if they're in the DO, I think they'll go. I bunged them my last vote.

I really felt for Judi - I think she'd been very ill and to come back and produce something was an achievement. If she makes it to next week, will be interesting to see how she copes with a full week's training as she was still, clearly struggling.

Anyways - just my tuppenceworth.

I wish they'd get rid of the Couple's Choice free-for-all and instead bring in Theatre Jazz as one of the formal options. So much CC is pointless nonsense, contempowaft or a poor version of the final show dance.

The lobsters could have been much worse, Dan is improving, bit odd choosing lobsters as Halloween subject

If the viewing public find Latin/ballroom every week in a Latin/ballroom competition too boring there are other ways to shake things up. I like the pro swap week done in some countries and can get on board with all the couples dancing at the same time once the crowd has thinned sufficiently but CC has already mutated from one of three styles to anything goes. How are judges supposed to judge without any style criteria to judge against?

Totally shipping JV and Rose. Think it’s just a friendship though.

Never thought much of him as a person before but he’s been great this year. Also rocked the guyliner last night.

Some great costumes last night but awful music and meh about most dances.

Because Faye was viewed as a ringer. I always feel slightly sorry for the ringers, they know they're going to have to work their socks off all the way through to the final, but if there's a popular non-ringer around who's reasonably talented there is no way they can win.

Exactly! Couple's Choice dances tend to get high scores because there's little that the judges can actually say was wrong provided that they're not too blatantly out of time and don't fall over. Alijaz made the mistake last night of going for something that was too comparable to things like Paso so the judges did have something to get their teeth into.
