Wrt names. I think if you're pretty close to it but slightly different it's not the biggest of big deals unless you're all "Your foreign name is too hard to pronounce so even though I'm not a racist because some of my friend is black, I shall just make up a pronunciation of it."
I've said on another thread that I have an unusual name although it's not that difficult to pronounce. So, let's say for example people put another letter in there and basically call me a different name, well then I think "F you, you idiot" However, let's say my name starts with Kar and then an ee sound and someone calls me Kar-ee and then the end of my name. Correct. But some people might say Kree and then the end of my name. I don't sweat it because it's just fine. This happens and I'm fine with it. A bit of a different emphasis on a part of my name or on a part of any name is not a big bad thing.
I mean, if it is, then the fact that people say gee-o and not Joe should be an issue because after all why do we have to Anglicise an Italian name, but we do and there you go.
