I always thought "Joe Varney" was a pisstake out of Tess's accent

It was how Georgia May Foote pronounced his name . Joe Vaaaaaarney

I remember it being Oo-go when he was playing rugby, but then, apart from Andrew Cotter, rugby commentators don't tend to bother pronouncing names correctly.

It seems that Paddy McGuinness can't make the 'oo' sound as he calls him Yougo on QoS (which, with Paddy's accent literally makes him sound like he's a Hugo!). Tess says YouGo, too but everyone else seems to manage OoGo?

Oh yes - Q was the absolute worst ever. He looked like a reanimated corpse.

Notoriously Hazel Newberry was one of the most successful competition dancers the UK has ever produced but has by far the worst SCD record.

@ThePoetsWife I have lost count of the amount of times I've tried to explain that to parents, I don't know why I'm still surprised that they don't learn sign language or that they drop it as soon as their child is implanted. BSL is such a useful tool when they are in swimming pools too!

Well, there is a common theme with Tess and Paddy McGuiness which might explain that

I think Katya's tricks work with a good dancer but just look tacky and awkward with a novice/average dancer

I think the producers have been a bit cruel on the men this year. Any man over a certain age is deemed to be a joke dancer and wears god awful costumes, and any younger guys with some muscle has to strip off and gyrate.

In more recent times, I thought James Cracknell was TERRIBLE. I seem to remember they had him behind a pancake counter for as long as possible.

I love the early rounds where you get to see who, surprisingly, can dance or at least hold a rhythm and is teachable, eg Ed Balls, and who can’t really but is going to give it a real go anyway - eg Russell Grant.

Sorry, but the worst ever Strictly dance was that Simpsons ............ thing last year. I don't even want to think about it.

Joe Varney was a pisstake of Georgia's pronunciation - I think Monkseal coined it on his blog.
I am a fanton so if Tony Beak is saying Otti to show he knows her better than us plebs, that's fine too. Oti is also an engineer btw - she did civil engineering, the younger one did mechanical engineering and Motsi studied law iirc. Parents thought education was key.
