I wish Adam would stop mouthing things when's he's dancing too ! But a lot of them seem to do this it's very off putting.

Thepennysjustdropped · 24/10/2021 09:23

@holidaysnearlyover, thank you for explaining.
I really like Rose, and I love her and JV's partnership.

ThePoetsWife · 24/10/2021 09:31

"On the flip side I also get, well they turned when I talked, to mean they can understand every single word being said and teachers not understanding that language levels can be low depending upon when the child was aided, if they have CIs etc."

Most of all language levels depend on when they acquired language - this is why it's advised that deaf children learn and use BSL along side aids/CIs.

Many profoundly deaf people can't hear well enough when wearing aids or implants to pick up all sounds. And CIs are known to fail - sadly once that happens as residual hearing has been destroyed in the process of implanting, hearing aids are useless.

I really liked Adam to start with and loved him at the olympics but I can barely watch him now, it makes me cringe so much. I wonder how much input he has in what he wears and how he presents himself. It almost appears that the producers are influencing him to present himself like this, but I wonder if that's really him. It's just a cringe fest for me tho.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/10/2021 09:59

While we're on pronunciation of names, is Ugo like Hugo without an H, or with Oo at the beginning? I think I've heard both and am now confused.

I bet whoever writes the joke names for Hallowe'en would like him to stay in— they could be "Boo-go and Ghosti". Grin

Ugo is like yougo

Simonjt · 24/10/2021 10:04

Actually now I’m saying it out aloud maybe I say you weirdly

Onlinedilema · 24/10/2021 10:06

Late to the party, watched on catch up.
Rose &Gio were my favourites again. Their dance made me want to cry. I want them to win. I always want him to win though he is my favourite dancer and has been robbed of the title many times in favour of more popular but worse dancers.
He is soooooo hot. I loved AJ and Kai too. Kai is adorable. I think the poster up thread nailed it, seems sexy yet reliable and a fabulous dance partner.
I thought my tv had gone bonkers watching Adam and Katya. What was all that about? A very, very poor man's George Michael and so far off the mark. All that denim and hair gel and the eyeshadow 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

PrincessScarlett · 24/10/2021 10:06

I don't think they have too much say in their costumes as I saw a clip in the week of John moaning about how tight the trousers were and how they were sewn into their costumes and had to get wardrobe to unsew them to go to the toilet. He said it's not at all glamourous despite how it comes across on TV.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/10/2021 10:18

i assume they are singing when they are dancing, to remember the foot steps.
adam is young, well - the same age as Rose, 26

herecomesthsun · 24/10/2021 10:25

I don't understand though, why they can't sing inside their head though.

callmeadoctor · 24/10/2021 10:33

Kai is also 6ft 2 (doesnt seem that tall though) I guess AJ is tall (with very long legs)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/10/2021 10:44

I'm a big fan of Kai too. Although he doesn't look like a Kai to me, he should have an 'older' name!

I'm trying not to overcommit though — I remember how much we all liked KFG in his first series.

callmeadoctor · 24/10/2021 10:46

Kai is never going to be like KFG!!!!!!!! (bangs gavel). He is fab!

callmeadoctor · 24/10/2021 10:48

Just watched Kai dancing with Brian on the Irish show.... Inddde FAB:

Piggywaspushed · 24/10/2021 11:16

Simon where do you get that? Pretty sure it's Oo-go. (I teach an Ugo..)

SunshineCake1 · 24/10/2021 11:27

Just watched it all again while ironing. The shove that Alijaz seemed to have given Sara looked a lot less dramatic and more a gentle move along.

At the start it seems like Adam was covering his genital stuff rather than grabbing it as it looked the first time around.

Loved Giovanni and Rose again.

Seedandyarn · 24/10/2021 11:27

Trust me he's no Kevin! Kai was exactly like this on DWTS Ireland, all his contestants adored him saying the same as AJ he is a patient and kind teacher. He was known for creating really beautiful ballroom dances I am hoping to see a Waltz from them soon.

I always found it really telling that on switch up week with DWTS his partners always seem to sharply drop points with the other pros.

Kai IS fab... but so was Kevin!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 24/10/2021 11:46

I’m feeling a bit sorry for Adam now tbh. Rewatching last night’s show, he’s more a helpless pawn in Katya’s plan to win at all costs, it seems to me, rather than the (slight) show-off I suspected he was at the start. The way she jumps up and down, fist-pumping and screeching yessss! every time the judges make a positive remark about one of Adam’s steps... drives me up the wall.

If I was Adam I’d be looking for the ‘off’ switch. Was she always this irritating? It’s exhausting watching her.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/10/2021 11:51

@iklboo

Just watched Adam's dance back. Omg, I think that's the most cringey dance ever on Strictly

Worse than Ann Widdecombe, John Sergeant & Dave Hairy Biker?

True Strictly obsessives know that the bar for Worst Dance was set impossibly high in Series 1 and has never been beaten.

Answers on a postcard...

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/10/2021 11:54

I always thought "Joe Varney" was a pisstake out of Tess's accent

It's Oo because it's an Igbo name and that's how it's pronounced. But everyone says it like Hugo without the H.

You are correct

It's the Katya effect Grin
