Old thread filled, hope nobody minds!

OP posts:
Raahh · 16/11/2021 14:49

small yes, Ruhma could visit (but that might make poor Makeda feel worse Grin.)

She'd be quite good at fighting the hospital though, if they complained, she's good when she get the bit between her teeth, and she wasn't treated very well when she was suspended.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/11/2021 16:16

I was thinking that as she has a personal connection to the hospital it might be something she thinks strongly about. You're right they weren't very sympathetic to her when she was suspended. Zara might help, and she's brilliant if she's in the right. I actually think almost all of the staff at The Mill could help him but sadly Daniel, Zara and Emma as (upper?) middle class white English people would be most likely to be listened to. Even Al and Jimmi would be less listened to despite them being doctors because of their dress sense and accents respectively. It might be interesting if Sid does come across some trouble there - remember him and Bear disagreeing about when they were pulled over in a routine car stop? Sid seemed less likely to reach the conclusion of racism but he also seemed to not realise what a problem it could be. Apologies, quite political but it's actually made me think!!

Raahh · 16/11/2021 16:37

Don't apologise, it made me think too- and it is an interesting one to tackle. Unfortunately, this being Doctors I think they will wimp out and Bear will either not complain, (his mum won't want the fuss) or if he does he will be made to feel it is somehow his fault and it will be swept under the carpet.

LIZS · 16/11/2021 17:11

How have they decided it is ulcerative colitis and she needs op if she did not have the sigmoidoscopy? Bear would have noticed if they had done investigations while she was sedated surely.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/11/2021 17:55

Ooh LIZS I didn't know that investigations weren't supposed to happen when patients have been in a coma. I hadn't really thought much about it to be honest except that I thought that doctors etc may be allowed to look into what made someone poorly in the first place. I hope they don't wimp out Raahh and do show the complaints procedure. Full disclosure, I am white but my children are mixed race and this is a subject that interests/worries me.

Somanysocks · 16/11/2021 19:04

That scene certainly showed how quickly things can escalate and the frustrating impotence when innocent people are accused and not listened to purely because they aren't white.

I reckon the receptionist is going to be the key to helping Bear get justice for his mum. Looking forward to seeing how that develops.

TDogsInHats · 16/11/2021 19:06

The timing of today's episode was very pertinent, I've been listening to poor Azeem Rafiq's testimony about the awful racism inherent in cricket, especially his club Yorkshire.
It's awfulSad

TDogsInHats · 16/11/2021 19:09

I think that the receptionist looked upset by the racism directed at Bear. It was very difficult to watch, I commend the acting (by Bear especially)

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/11/2021 19:11

I love the way a mid afternoon soap opera has got us all deeply thinking about race, this is when them doing issues goes right! (Do feel a bit hypocritical when I have been so vocal about my distaste for all of the LGBT stuff, but I think this particular issue has been dealt with much more sensitively and realistically)

Willowkins · 16/11/2021 19:22

I agree. Really good episode today. Good writing and acting all round I think. How awful to suddenly find yourself in that situation.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 16/11/2021 19:39

I felt really angry on Bear's behalf. I hope the story is resolved to our satisfaction!

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 16/11/2021 20:28

They do seem to deal with race well, the racist soap dispensers and that time Sid and Bear were stopped in the car at night by the police were done well too. Sometimes they get the LGBT stuff right too, Al's current storyline is working so far and the homophobic attack on Emma was believable even if that particular relationship wasn't. It seems to be when Luca gets on his soapbox it goes wrong.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/11/2021 20:50

You're right, it's Luca that's been the most annoying about it all. He is a good character sometimes, I really liked it when he started and he was being bothered by his partner's brother. There is possibility for his character to be redeemed!!

TDogsInHats · 16/11/2021 21:33

How did you get on todayRaahh ? You are probably the thread expert on all things stoma related (not something you would choose to be, but if it's helped mini Raahh then that's a good outcome)Flowers

Raahh · 16/11/2021 21:49

Grin TDog I have become an expert on many things i never expected I would.

It went ok, thank you, - the surgeon was non-committal over when he thought the reveral should be- dd2 will need other procedures to help her go to the toilet properly after (tmi, sorry) because since she was a baby, she never really has.

He asked her if she wanted to keep the stoma and she said yes! Grin. That's not an option, she doesn't need it, longterm, but she needs time to get ready to reverse it and see where we go next. I just wish it had all happened a year or so earlier. I don't want her starting secondary with the stoma, really, or having it reversed and needing time off almost as soon as she's started there.

TDogsInHats · 17/11/2021 13:09

Oh bless her Raahh, I bet you've had a lot of "helpful" advice over the years. I wonder how one actually learns to evacuate as it were. X

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:31

It's been a steep learning curve- and I'm a bit worried about her when the time comes because re-learning something you are meant to do naturally from a toddler is not going to be easy. I don't want to rush anything, in case it just sends her back to square one.

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:49

Zara thinks he's hungover?

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:50

Sam seems confused.

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:52

So he's not Sam?

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:56

I don't think Rob wants to improve things with Karen.

Did Zara check she was talking to the right person when she rang?

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:58

To be honest, I'm beginning to think it might be better for Karen if he does go back to work.

Raahh · 17/11/2021 13:59

So he is Sam!! I am so confused Grin

Raahh · 17/11/2021 14:00

And now he knows about Sams medical problems. And thats why Jonah left.

Raahh · 17/11/2021 14:04

it's not something he's likely to tell everybody, is he? Maybe he was trying to protect him, because of his mum?
