@Greenpolkadot

Why did Dan have to keep interrupting the judges when they were trying to talk to him. He's just the same on BBC Breakfast,cant keep his trap shut
Yes I said at the time he was doing it he's the type of person that just doesn't know when to stop. He doesn't need to say anything back to them at all....just shit up and take it! 🤣
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 26/09/2021 18:42

SequinsandStiIettos

Still my favourite pun-based dance.
Shoulder not his arm and he did very well in the circumstances but Oti was not a happy bunny with the pairing.

That’s a shame. I really liked that partnership, thought they looked good together and was disappointed when they went out early. If it hadn’t been for the injury they surely would have done great things.

ScienceSensibility · 26/09/2021 18:42

@SequinsandStiIettos

I keep looking at the livestream science at different times of the day because I am a nerd. It is colour during the day and monochrome at night but was hugely busy this evening probably because champs de mars is not that far away.
Thank you so much SequinsandStilettos

I may not get much work done so will have to be strict with my access of the livestream. 😀👍🏻

Runningupthecurtains · 26/09/2021 18:43

@covetingthepreciousthings

Presumably as they are both positive they could train together in the isolation period if feeling well enough.

I would think if they did this they'd be breaking some rules though surely unless they moved in together and trained in that 'household'.. also if Amy is asymptomatic they might not want to do that due to the viral load incase it then caused her to become symptomatic.

I had assumed they were "bubbling" couples like that did last year but that doesn't seem to be the case this time so they wouldn't be able to. But there should be enough post isolation time for a few days training and some online instruction before if they are both well.
Claymorekick · 26/09/2021 18:45

@SequinsandStiIettos

I would not have recognised Anthony, bless. So, is that real wrestling or choreographed wrestling? Cos of the guvnor moniker - is it like WWF I used to watch back in the day?
It is the choreographed wrestling- like WWF (as it was called years ago)/WWE. But he wrestles for a company that are the main competitors of WWE and they are often poached from there to go to WWE. What I was reading was quite complimentary about him Smile

This may be a stupid question but could Amy/Tom move in with each other (as they are both positive) so they could practice still?

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/09/2021 19:02

I think if Nancy was indeed the Covid positive pro, her and Rhys only had Weds - Sat rehearsal time, so it can be done, just makes it very tight but they had the advantage of that being week 1 and not week 3 I guess though.

NCTDN · 26/09/2021 19:18

Is there speculation to who the pros are that aren't double jabbed? As the celebrity, I'd be very uncomfortable if they were my partner.

Comefromaway · 26/09/2021 19:24

Hope Tom and especially Amy are ok.

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/09/2021 19:25

@NCTDN

No, and tbh I wouldn't want to speculate as they might have their own reasoning for not wanting it.
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/09/2021 19:50

Is Cameron even old enough to have had both jabs? Grin

Joking, but I did feel old when they announced a pro born in 2001...

OP posts:
NCTDN · 26/09/2021 19:51

@covetingthepreciousthings I disagree. If care home staff are expected to have them in order to do their job, why should the professionals be any different here?

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:00

The DailyFail gave a very broad get-out stating that many believe that Nancy was the positive pro and that two of the three benched pros were not vaccinated. Luba then said ''No doubts here'' which led speculation that she was jabbed. The third pro, with a sleb, was meant to have done a u-turn and chosen to get jabbed so they didn't have to worry anymore.
I was expecting tbh some footage/drama of the sick pro akin to injury porn but they decided to not touch on it at all, I assume so as to not fuel further negative headlines/protect the pro and because the sleb was good anyway and didn't need a bye to the next week or excuse.

Mothersister · 26/09/2021 20:02

@StoopitAutocarrot

Strictly curse- so why insist on dancing with a partner of your chosen preference? If you’re gay, and in a relationship, what’s the issue with dancing with some one of the opposite sex?
It’s not a chosen preference.
SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:04

You're very welcome science.
christojeanneclaude.net/artworks/projects-not-realized/
The project I would have adored to see realized anywhere was the Over The River one in the link above - tis the Strictly in me. Wink

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:13

Avoid the offensive term "sexual preference," which is used to suggest that being gay, lesbian, or bisexual is voluntary and therefore "curable." People need not have had specific sexual experiences to know their own sexual orientation; in fact, they need not have had any sexual experience at all.

www.glaad.org/reference/lgbtq

You mean sexual orientation - and there is no issue with dancing with someone who does not share yours: see Susan Calman, Adam Rippon (DWTS), both of whom chose an opposite sex partner. Julian Clary, Julien McD, Rindy, Russell, Mark, Colin (though the latter two came out later iirc) etc etc all had female partners.

But - and this has already been said - representation is incredibly important. If gay teenage boys see positive role models on the telly then fingers crossed you end up with less stigma/shame/internalised homophobia/ and more awareness, positivity and tolerance all round.
Cannot believe that a) it took so long and b) still having to explain that in 2021.

ChoccyJules · 26/09/2021 20:19

The voting seemed calm at the beginning, very week one, then suddenly a few BBC employees are dancing and boom, the voting rocketed up to stupid levels.

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:30

Actually very sorry - my bad - you mean why would a married gay man insist on partnering someone of the same sexual orientation when, if they had been partnered with Kai/Graz/Gio - the ''curse'' speculation wouldn't happen and their husband would not have to go through that.

I don't think John asked for Jojo. No source for it at all. He may have asked for a same-sex partner and when interviewed, had narrowed it down to Kai, Graz, Jojo and Aljaz based on height alone.

The producers will have decided the pairings based on chemistry, height, headlines, single or married status (showmance), who the sleb/agent ''asked for'' etc etc
I liked that it was Johannes because I wanted the validation for Johannes - he loved that on Strictly he could be himself and I thought well, actually, why use Graz when Jojo is just as tall? But there was always then going to be the ooh chemistry-curse bollocks going with that - that happens to many couples who are het every single year. Equal opps sleb twaddle in action - they are not being treated any differently. (although that said, am not sure I have seen anything other than 'powerful and electric' mentioned....yet Wink)
If Rylan's single now, I expect him to get namedropped with Craig or Jojo or John etc before the series is out, such is the nature of sleb blinds and sleb tattle. yes, I am just as guilty of gossiping

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/09/2021 20:36

Until I was trying to think out who you were talking about Sequins, I'd never realised there had been so many Marks on Strictly! (Four I think? And Foster was definitely the last one I remembered!).

OP posts:
SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:40

You mean the scoring jules? Only Rhys, Sara, Dan and Rose are BBC?
21, 21, 18, 27 ,17, 24 ,22, 22, 20, 24, 24, 30, 24, 34, 30
Who else is solely Beeb? I think Dan's was fair and Rose's was undermarked if anything (a 4?) Rhys I think was overmarked slightly perhaps because of circumstances, the knowledge of which we are not privy to.

SequinsandStiIettos · 26/09/2021 20:43

Yes, Mark Foster. Swimmer. Came out four years ago but did Strictly 2008. Paired with Hayley Holt and went out sixth (just looked that up).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/09/2021 20:45

I got to him eventually! Just went through Ramps, Benton and Wright first...

I remember Hayley Holt. Professional snowboarder by day, professional ballroom/Latin dancer by night. Grin

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Strictly_Come_Dancing_contestants
Add Richard, Scott and Will to the gay men who had female pros. So it is good that finally we have had Nic/Katya and John/Jojo and caught up with other countries e.g. Israel, Germany, Australia. Even Ireland used Kai for a switch-up one week for Brian.
But as you know polka and far more knowledgable than me, same-sex partnerships are bog standard in competition aren't they, irrespective of sexual orientation.

Shirleyphallus · 26/09/2021 21:20

I’ve finally caught up. So glad strictly is back!!

Kai and Adam would get a ride
Adam, AJ, Nina, John all fantastic

Looking forward to all the fillers in mid places dropping out for the proper competition to begin

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 26/09/2021 21:53

Are they? That’s interesting (and pleasing!). I must be honest and say I couldn’t really understand the hype around same sex couples on strictly before now, but having reflected a bit more last night I’ve realised that the male/female partnership is totally arbitrary isn’t it. Plus they were absolutely smoking hot together. I was reminded of a Jon Ronson podcast where he said gay (male) pornography is increasingly popular with women (for lots of reasons) and well, after watching last night’s show I can completely understand why Grin I didn’t get the same vibe from Katya and Nicola but that’s more to do with my feelings about Katya (agree with earlier posted who mentioned the “I’m mad me!” schtick) than about Nicola’s talent as a dancer.
