The Aus version was full of insta wannabes too. Quite a few were invited to be on. They didn't apply.

@meadowbleu

Late lightbulb moment. On the podcast Paul said they made a series last year but it was just four couples in the old UK format and for unexplained reasons they only aired shows with two couples. Apparently it wasn't a hit. I didn't even hear about it, did anyone watch? So after that, this year, when they got the chance to take on the Australian format, they jumped at it.

They should've gone with my previous option, but then I suppose Covid and social distancing put paid to that. It must've been a nightmare organising the honeymoons and safe working for everyone involved in the planning and filming, as well as participating.

I posted on an earlier thread about a couple who couldn't be filmed because of Covid but they met up themselves and are still together. Of the two couples shown one couple is still together. They were at the after show one night.

Paul is full of it. Sheldon doesn't call him sellout for nothing.

They did a better job of hiding it then.

I liked Bob from the start and then suddenly realised why. He reminds me of someone I used to go out with. I would be busting down his door. I want to be Mrs Bob Grin.

I watched that series.

I was a bit disappointed that we only saw two couples.

One couple really seemed to hit it off, they were only just married when the lockdown started, and they chose to move in together and isolate, it all went really well and in the end they were staying together and she was leaving her hometown in Brighton to move North and live with him. There was some resistance from her sister, but they seemed really to want to be together.

The other couple didn't go so well. She was a spiritual type and he was quite practical and an outdoors type. He packed her some kind of emergency back pack with a first aid kit and bits in and made the mistake of saying something like "you can use this when you have an accident or emergency" and she couldn't seem to get over that. She felt he was wishing bad luck on her or something. She chose to live apart from him during lockdown and afterwards they just couldn't make anything work.

I don't think they really advertised that series though, and with just two couples in it and one couple living miles apart, there wasn't much to watch. I hadn't realised they should have shown two other couples as well, and I wonder what happened to stop those shows being aired. I think it's a shame they've abandoned the old format. I wonder if they made that last series so bad to force the new format through. Seems a bit pointless when the marriages aren't legal though.

meadowbleu · 22/09/2021 11:55

@JaneJeffer thanks for that, I hadn't registered the comment, probably because I hadn't heard of the series. I found an article with pics, apols if it's been posted before.

Cross posted @SnoopyLights that article I linked to mentions the emergency kit containing massge oil, burning scents and 30 condoms. I'd be wondering if he planned to get us stranded.

JaneJeffer · 22/09/2021 12:02

I think the last one and all previous series were better than this one. They obviously saw how well the Australian one did and thought that's the way to go but they went OTT with the fake drama and fake wannabes with fake faces and no socks.

SheldonesqueTheLazyEyedBstard · 22/09/2021 12:11

Aye - some socks will have been recycled.

Some unpicked for lashes.

Some just rammed in a face instead of fillers.

That’ll halve the £49 budget right there jane Wink

And Marylise just reminds me of singer called Tarja Turunen. Like, she is identical!
Yes!!!! She really does
SpanishFly · 22/09/2021 12:15

For me, the biggest issue isn't the format per se, but the total lack of seeing them in normal settings. In AUS, they go for a cuppa, they go for a visit to a vineyard etc. I know covid isn't great for those scenarios, but a picnic here and there or similar would be good.
We saw a lot of them on their honeymoons, then it has been literally dinner parties and little else.

I also wonder if the ixperts are happy about the editing. I know they will say they are, but they must see how this makes them look like their entire careers have been shams all along.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 22/09/2021 12:20

The experts are crap.
They didn't challenge Josh much on the way he spoke to amy.
They didn't continue to pull Franky up on any of the shit he says.
They just raise their eyebrows and move on.
There's literally no point in them at all.

And the woman who was saying to ant and Alexis "you made your case to me" oh fuck off. As of you weren't going to let them continue as bf/gf. You had no input to that, that was the producers.
The guy "expert" is just wayyyyyy off in what he says. Pretty much every comment he makes is wrong

but what I'm saying is, the contestants keep saying that they've been edited badly/incorrectly/in a misleading way etc etc. I'm wondering if the icksperts are too. i.e. Paul is genuinely well respected and very well paid in his field, and it was quite a big deal when C4 snared him for Celebs Go Dating. It just seems a stretch to me that they'd all be prepared to blow their reputations away for a reality gig where they generally don't come across as being very professional at all.
LagneyandCasey · 22/09/2021 13:32

Why on earth is Luke 'falling' for Morag and publicly announcing it? It was so cringey and from her facial expression while he was talking it was obvious that she doesn't have an ounce of feeling for him. What on earth is he seeing in her that we aren't?

He wants children and she doesn't. This is a massive issue (shame on the 'experts'). I can understand how someone would give up the chance to be a parent for a person they really couldn't live without ... but would he really do that for Morag, who obviously doesn't fancy him and constantly disrespects him? Hmm.

He seems genuine but it just doesn't add up.

I hadn't realised that was in the emergency kit.

What kind of emergency does he have that needs massage oil and condoms Grin Grin

That would have put me right off as well.

Xyzzzzz · 22/09/2021 13:49

@Nogaxeh

Sadly, what I think Alexis has missed is that even if you find someone physically attractive you may not want to sleep with them! I think Ant did find her attractive but something has put him off.

Alexis seems to be quick to take offence and is robust in defending herself. I could easily imagine a simple misunderstanding or mishearing suddenly becoming a major row. It would put me on edge. Maybe it was something like that.

Hard to tell because they've hardly shown them together alone. But looks like there's more of the couples together now that they head home.

I agree I think she comes across quite aggressive without perhaps thinking. She seems the type act first and think later. Maybe that’s the problem, whereas Ant seems more chilled.

sorry, my last comment was in reply to this, but somehow I managed to quote my own post in error Grin
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 22/09/2021 14:10

Yes you could be right @SpanishFly but if that is the case then C4 are doing a disservice by showing/amending things from experts that are not true. It could be very damaging and surely they have a duty of care?

SpanishFly · 22/09/2021 14:13

Yes, agreed. I just think there's a lot we're not privy to, and it would be interesting what everyone involved is making of it all.
Maybe something will come out of the woodwork at some point in the future

SheldonesqueTheLazyEyedBstard · 22/09/2021 14:26

I agree that the ixperts may have been edited as badly as the contestants,

But my favourite saying comes into play again.

You can’t edit what you don’t say. They’ve got feckall budget by the look of it and so are unlikely to be using cgi for sneery coupons.

I thought sellout was grand in other things.

All they’ve managed to convince me on this programme is that they’ve got 10 new clients. And some of it may well be down to the ixperts.

I cannot forgive their attitude to Megan at all. That was nothing short of shameful.

Ughmaybenot · 22/09/2021 14:34

Just catching up on last nights episode now, haven’t seen any decisions yet.
I think Alexis and Ant are out. I think she’s been very unfair on him really, almost blaming him for it not working out with jordon but also for just simply not being that into her. You can’t help how you feel 🤷🏼‍♀️
Bob and Megan, I’m on the fence. They ought to go really, nothing is coming of their ‘relationship’ but I worry she feels she needs to stay and be with Bob to ?make up for her previous behaviour, which has had her dragged over the coals, totally unfairly.
Tayah… well, Adam needs to accept it’ll probably take a restraining order to ever get her out of his life, should he want to end it. She’s too fucking much, she’s so clingy and the whole following old mate to Australia just sums that up for me.
Amy and Josh, I feel, have started working together rather better this week but it’s hard to tell because all the focus has been on Josh’s row with Morag, and the reaction to her claim.
Franky makes me so uncomfortable, still. He just isn’t right!! Marylise needs to think of herself and her sons and call it a day, he’s not going to bring anything good to her life.
Dan and Matt, cute. That’s all.
Morag and Luke need to leave, he’s just embarrassing himself now, altho it feels harsh to say that about him, and she’s, as mentioned previously, an abuser, pure and simple. She’s just beating him down.

Ughmaybenot · 22/09/2021 14:39

I’m so annoyed on Josh’s behalf, he’s never given any impression whilst on the show that he’s ‘a lad’ so I’d be pissed off too if I was him, no idea why morag thinks she is in a position to throw that at him… people in glass houses springs to mind! She openly said to the other girls she may well entertain some bloke messaging her, and yet megan and Tayah are sat there judging josh for being defensive but nothing to say about morag? Weird weird weird.

Cheeseplantboots · 22/09/2021 15:05

This series is awful!

Trying to force relationships that just aren’t going to work. There’s only one genuine relationship there and that’s Daniel & Matt. Tayah & Adam won’t last, she’s far too intense and just wants a man, any man. Amy is awful and childish and far too over the top. Alexis is ridiculous. Ant doesn’t fancy her so why she’s pushing for more from him is beyond me. Even the “experts” are ridiculous! I mean the Australian one asked Meghan why she had an “affair”!! It was one kiss FFs.
