Not all ex forces are like Frankie ( Im not) - I think he’s a bit of a stereotype. Having said that, if he’s been on tours of duty, it can explain why he is the way he is. Not sure if he’s deliberately acting like a Bond wannabe or is just like that.
I don’t get why he’s on the show- is he after 15 minutes of fame or after a tv deal? Or genuinely looking for a wife? He’s not a tv personality type, so don’t think he’ll go onto anything else, he’s too stand offish.

Dave20 · 22/09/2021 06:16

As for Morag and Luke- she isn’t even the most attractive there. Way down the list. Too much make up and DW says she has a big nose! I think Luke is in love with love, and suffers from a lack of confidence .
Seems strange though why someone so quiet and reserved would go on a national tv show...
Morag definitely is in it for fame- she’s already been on Take Me Out. Red flag alert.
Luke should open his eyes and see that he’ll actually have a huge fan club himself after this.
I don’t get why he’s so besotted with Morag, considering how she treats him and what she’s said about him. He could have pied her off yesterday and got the upper hand..

The point about maryalise being able to handle Frankie, or her pulling him up on his views etc. is that it is exhausting to be 'handling' someone all the time. She deserves a relationship where she doesn't have to be doing that. How many times do we hear 'its not your job to fix him'?
He reminds me of my ex too. Yes, he was deeply insecure as well, and there was a good man inside, but in the end was incapable of having the kind of relationship I wanted to be in.

rawhidebone · 22/09/2021 07:25

Frankie loves his ex forces status and over eggs it all the time. He's like a crap caricature of the image he wants to project to the world. In his head he imagines that he is the protagonist from American Sniper with the thousand yard stare or Chris Hemsworth from 12 Strong. He thinks that his time served in the forces 16 years ago gives him carte blanche to behave like a prick whenever he wants to 'because I'm ex army'. Actually my ex did this too. He incessantly brought up the fact that he was ex army at any opportunity and used it to get away with all sorts of shit.

Yellowcrockpot · 22/09/2021 07:30

All the comments re: frankie, since my own offerings, I also 100% agree with.
He is abusive, and all the army alpha rubbish is embarrassing, I dont really understand why is he on the show.
It my own experiences of men like this (particularly the older ex. Forces) that bring me to my own conclusions about him.

Absolute agree it's not marylise job to "handle' hi or put up with his comments and crappy treatment of her, but if she chooses to stay with him - she will need to be strong and call him out.

I want to say there must be something about him to make her stay- but I suspect it's just more airtime and there's an ulterior motive to them being on the show.

As an end add, frankie doesn't love her - boys night he said it for effect and to draw attention to himself.

For all my musings about him, I dont like him and hopefully marylise will put him in his place very soon, she's clearly getting fed up right now.

lollipoprainbow · 22/09/2021 07:38

I'd happily be Mrs Bob !!

Dave20 · 22/09/2021 07:39

Red Frankie- did 15 years(?) in the army and left 16 years ago. Doesn’t make him special. Many people are ex forces and don’t go on about it.

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/09/2021 07:41

Just on Jordon - he had a difficult childhood where he ended up living in a hostel on his own at 16. That was why he was a closed book.

StiffyByng · 22/09/2021 07:51

I’m amused that Franky is now being talked about like a rescue dog! But Marylise shouldn’t need to be Barbara Woodhouse. Grin

There’s a big question mark over Jordon’s back story. Was it the truth, or his truth?

Blossomtoes · 22/09/2021 08:08

@showmethegin

Grotesque is a fucking horrible thing to say about someone whether you know them or not.
Particularly when it’s about as far from the truth as you can get. Her face is really beautiful and she hasn’t stuffed it full of botox and fillers. Amy’s mouth transfixes me - why would anyone do that to themselves?
Italiangreyhound · 22/09/2021 08:28

Sadly, what I think Alexis has missed is that even if you find someone physically attractive you may not want to sleep with them! I think Ant did find her attractive but something has put him off.

I think Alexis is very attractive but her coarse mouth and comments would probably drive some away. I just hope this experience has not given her additional issues. The way she ripped into Meg about the girl code etc but was happy to flirt with Any despite Nikita makes it harder for me to take it all seriously.

I find Ant a bit cold and not really suited to this programme. I think he came on for fame but found himself one of the few regular guys and didn't really want to engage further. Possibly seeing and being with Nikita has left him a bit shell shocked.

StrongArm · 22/09/2021 08:29

I suspect Marylise did get swept up in it all. It's a bit worrying that it took other people telling her what Franky was like for her to realise what he was like!

I've also been out with a Franky - insecure and controlling by the same measure then hugely apologetic when they do something wrong but to the point of wanting to write it out of history because they can't cope with it.

You can see she's starting to think, can I bring this man back to my children and the answer really should be no.

Italiangreyhound · 22/09/2021 08:32

Bob seems way too vulnerable to be on this process.

I think Josh and Amy are quite nice but both way too volatile.

I find it hard watching people making fools of themselves and wish the producers had left it as a genuine 'experiment' instead of a this scripted rubbish.

SailYourShips · 22/09/2021 08:34

Well, I'm sad the only good looking man -Ant-has left.

I did raise my eyebrows when Tayah revealed that she had already followed someone to Australia. I think she is really Clinging Ivy and it would be very hard to get away from her.

She is not 25 either by a long shot.

Italiangreyhound · 22/09/2021 08:35

I think Maralyse is in it for a career. There doesn't seem to be any genuine feeling there for either of them. The way she asked if he was pissed off when they sat down was so sad. I think she just has her eyes on the end of the process. I can't imagine any of them staying together. They are so badly matches. Even Dan and Matt will almost certainly split up.

KingofQueens · 22/09/2021 08:40

@WeAreTheHeroes

Just on Jordon - he had a difficult childhood where he ended up living in a hostel on his own at 16. That was why he was a closed book.
According to people who know him.on Twitter, that was made up too. He needed an excuse as to why his parents weren't at the wedding.
StiffyByng · 22/09/2021 08:48

Bob is a knob. Glad he’s finally pity whinged off my screen.

Megan is very lovely to look at. How on earth anyone makes grotesque out of her is a mystery. I felt sorry for her when she was saying people kept saying love could grow - it can and does, but from a standing start, not from having the ick.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 22/09/2021 08:57

Who is Jordan?!

I think Megan is absolutely gorgeous.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 22/09/2021 08:59

And Marylise just reminds me of singer called Tarja Turunen. Like, she is identical!

Nogaxeh · 22/09/2021 09:16

Sadly, what I think Alexis has missed is that even if you find someone physically attractive you may not want to sleep with them! I think Ant did find her attractive but something has put him off.

Alexis seems to be quick to take offence and is robust in defending herself. I could easily imagine a simple misunderstanding or mishearing suddenly becoming a major row. It would put me on edge. Maybe it was something like that.

Hard to tell because they've hardly shown them together alone. But looks like there's more of the couples together now that they head home.

Blossomtoes · 22/09/2021 09:36

Both Alexis and Morag seem to think the programme guaranteed them the man of their dreams. Alexis’ protestations that she’d been let down twice and Morag’s “He’s not what I ordered” are so bloody entitled and tone deaf. They both seem to see men as commodities.

meadowbleu · 22/09/2021 11:08

seem to think the programme guaranteed them the man of their dreams

You're right there @Blossomtoes but they're also encouraged to think that way what with the fake wedding photos and pressure to be intimate with each other early on. There's very much an air of not trying hard enough rather than the ixperts having it wrong.

I wonder how they'd have paired up if the ixperts' selection of men and women had been invited to a 'mingler' a la Patti Stranger, the Millionaire Matchmaker of old. Anyone remember her?

Considering when people meet out in the wild, well, a bar or through friends or hobbies, that initial physical attraction is probably what hooks most of us in the very first instance. I wonder who'd have moved towards who? Although, obvious flaw, it wouldn't have become MAFS then Blush

meadowbleu · 22/09/2021 11:12

Late lightbulb moment. On the podcast Paul said they made a series last year but it was just four couples in the old UK format and for unexplained reasons they only aired shows with two couples. Apparently it wasn't a hit. I didn't even hear about it, did anyone watch? So after that, this year, when they got the chance to take on the Australian format, they jumped at it.

They should've gone with my previous option, but then I suppose Covid and social distancing put paid to that. It must've been a nightmare organising the honeymoons and safe working for everyone involved in the planning and filming, as well as participating.

Blossomtoes · 22/09/2021 11:17

I like the Australian format. I really enjoyed the Australian series, the people felt authentic and I got quite invested in some of them. I don’t like or empathise with any of this lot - Luke, Matt and Danny are OK but the rest of them just irritate me. I’d love to see a UK version faithful to the Australian format and with real, ordinary people.

SnoopyLights · 22/09/2021 11:20

@Notdoingthis

Sorry it is all the make up and weird clothes. I find all the women a bit pantomime and scary to look at. Nothing to do with their faces or figures, but the fact you cannot really see their pretty faces or figures underneath all the other stuff - lashes and lipliner and fillers etc.
I think I agree with you here.

They all look fine but it is all a false appearance. On the rare glimpses of Tayah without her contouring and lashes she's a completely different person, I wondered who she was the first time I saw her like that. She looked younger and more realistic and I think it's a shame that she and the others feel they have to have fake everything glued onto them to look good.

In the previous MAFS series (when it was proper weddings and real people) nobody looked like this, they looked like normal people who were in it to meet someone, not in it to be on TV. I preferred it that way, I used to really hope some of them would stay together. I don't care about any of this lot and doubt any marriage will last. Luke would have been better off in one of those previous series, and would probably have been matched to a nicer person who wanted the same things he does.
