Agreed SunSea. Give everyone air time, we get to compare properly and a chance to really give it a go in those weeks.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/09/2021 16:34

I'd be happy with four dances I think — now there are so many of them, eight cha chas would be quite a lot! And I agree they should have to do one Latin and one ballroom in the first two weeks (preferably proper ones as well, rather than the specialities).

It's the music choices that bother me. Always too many songs that have been used before and too much current (or fairly current) chart music, without a worry that it will make the routines instantly forgettable. I don't necessarily want authentic music for each dance but often you can look at the list and predict which dances will fail to connect because of generic, wishy-washy music.

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 18:38

Ah, you beat me to it. I don't have any strong feelings on the songs. Wonder if Neil chose Samba to get rid, as he went out on it with Alex. Gio loves his Jive and Karen does pull out an AS old-style when she's worried.

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 18:42

Blue Monday has already been done as a Tango. Peter Andre and Janette with chuck some cards on the floor at the start shenanigans.

Spme of the other songs also recycled and others feel either too safe or too new.

It appears I did have an opinion on the songs after all! Grin

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 23/09/2021 18:50

That will explain why I didn’t remember it sequins 😳

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 21:53

Hah! We're you anyonebutAndre in a previous life Sheld?! That username always used to make me laugh. Many used Petey as a coffee break but in fairness, his Tango was okay. The music definitely helped. It's one of three power struggle ones/knock the game over before you start dancing. It was poker iirc but Karen did similar with Will Young and Jamie last year. Always makes me smile as an ex used to tip up scrabble boards, the silly sod. So less Tango passion and more grow the fuck up. They see tempestuous and volatile. I just see a sore loser.

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 21:54

Were
Apostrophe gone rogue there!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 23/09/2021 22:12

I wish sequins

I will go back and have a neb at his Tango.

I’m fair like that.

But at the time I would have been bustin for a brew so… 🥴

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 23/09/2021 22:33

Sore loser scrabble? Aye!

His tango wasn’t bad but I didn’t feel the menace. I like a bit of menace in my tango.

It might not have been just Petey. Janette was peak gurn around then and I didn’t care for it.

I think J&J will make a better fist of it. I’m looking forward to it.

That and gold dust. It is one of my work cleaning equipment songs. And I mop the floor doing the Slosh.

SunSeaSurfGin · 23/09/2021 22:49

Thanks for agreeing with me Smile I'm a firm believer in get the basics right and the rest will follow, and I definitely feel that this is the case with dance.

Claymorekick · 23/09/2021 23:33

So any thoughts on why Mel C has opted for DWTS rather than Strictly? I assume it is because they pay better? As far as I know, she lives in England so it can't be for convenience. She looked good though Smile

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 23:37

Yes. They pay better.
On the previous thread I posted the pay differences. Mel C is on record for saying Strictly pay is shit money.
Dwts the initial outlay is higher.
Plus Mel B scary Spice did Dwts back in the day and made the final.
Add that there is less tabloid interest in the US compared with the daily Glitterball headlines and it's a no-brainer really.

Claymorekick · 23/09/2021 23:40

Thanks Sequins that is really interesting. In respect of press interest/tabloid headlines, I guess that depends on your motivation for doing Strictly in the first place GrinWink some contestants do it just for the press!

SequinsandStiIettos · 23/09/2021 23:49

Well, yes, you are right but I suspect Mel C doesn't want the prurient intrusion when she can get exposure from the American version without all the curse tomfoolery. I like her a lot. I just think she has her head screwed on. She made a lovely Mary in JCSS.

Redcrayons · 24/09/2021 14:46

I love Strictly but if they offered me Gleb and a wheelbarrow of cash I’d be tempted.

iklboo · 24/09/2021 15:02

@SequinsandStiIettos - she did. We went to see it with her & Tim Minchin in it.

Absolutely true story - At the interval a woman was complaining that Mel C was billed but wasn't it it and there was no announcement the understudy would be on.

Staff politely told her Mel was in it, and had already been on. Woman was adamant. Staff described costume. Woman said 'that was NOT her. She's not black'.

Yep. She'd mixed up her Mels.

MareofBeasttown · 25/09/2021 08:47

Robert Webb is already getting on my every last nerve with his gurning and expressions. Wish he had been teamed with someone else to calm him down a bit; Oti maybe.

ILoveAGlassofFizzy · 25/09/2021 12:03

Im very suprised jo jo is on DWTS, there couldnt be a more ringery ringer!! (Dance Moms star):

(from 3 mins 50)
Clawdy · 25/09/2021 12:58

Just seen that last week's launch show had the lowest viewing figures for about ten years. I wonder why?

Cherrypi · 25/09/2021 13:02

People probably saw it was three hours long and though nah.

SequinsandStiIettos · 25/09/2021 14:12

I have a white chocolate orange but have eaten half. Going to get a chip supper tonight.
Mixing up her Mels made me laugh.
Robert Webb has to stop the gurning, sardonic, look at me taking it as amusing shenanigans shtick we saw in the launch show dance if he is going to progress.
Janette as sheld said, was once peak gurner. Rindy only got away with it because it was unintentional and he improved. Ed Balls counting out loud wasn't conscious. Ore got in trouble for sticking his tongue out in a Tango.
Gurning never works really as it is too self-conscious. Bill won, partly because he took it so seriously, and refused to be the comedy turn.
Katie's Tango looks good so far.
The trailer for tonight to September confirms for me that Nancy was ill, I am sure they have superimposed those moves,
Weird using September when Tom is going to dance to that one with Amy.

iklboo · 25/09/2021 14:36

Is there no elimination this week?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/09/2021 14:41

I don't think so — there isn't a Sunday show as far as I can see. And they usually all get to do two dances.

I might have a fancy cupcake from the local bakery. If I don't eat it mid afternoon with a coffee. Grin
