@batmanladybird

As others have mentioned, there was no prize. Love was the prize.

If I’m not mistaken, I think the contestants got a wee bit of a fee for each episode they were on so it made sense to stay (Aussie programme)

I assume the UK ones had a fee also but the UK one always seemed more genuine.

Until now.

AngryWolf · 14/09/2021 10:26

@Ughmaybenot

Also a pp asked what Amy threw at Josh. I though it was a shoe or slider but I'm not sure. Again, if he had angrily thrown something at her, people would be reacting very strongly to that. Could be, it did sound fairly solid. It’s disgraceful, it’s not bloody normal to be chucking things at people, whether they’re irritating you or not!! I have to say, Josh is far more laidback than I thought he might have been on initial impressions. I had thought he might be a bit inclined to be quite inflexible and snappy himself but I thought he was actually impressive last night, didn’t rise at all to any of Amy’s mood swings and wasn’t completely dismissive of her hippy smokey nonsense.
Definitely not a slider. Looks more like a phone or a remote control for something? The way she was acting made it seem like he was the older, more mature one. And as PP's have said, totally unacceptable to throw things at people.

In previous mafsuk, the couples would all go back to their normal jobs when they were living together.

In this series they all seem not to be working, and have moved to Brighton from wherever they normally live and work - so they almost have to pay them something to cover lost income.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2021 10:46

Aye - they did keep their jobs and may well have got a fee. Not the pay per episode.

As you say, they’ve all decamped to the coast so must be getting something for deserting their jobs.

Although part of me thinks that the majority of them are resting actorrrrrs.

KingofQueens · 14/09/2021 11:13

@StiffyByng

In general last night’s episode felt awkwardly scripted to the point of turning me off. Can’t bear that sort of thing. If it becomes like that every time I’ll stop watching. I guess it had that element from the start but it’s come out more.

The Ant and Alexis thing had no authenticity at any point. Not the two of them being attracted to each other but the phone call/cafe meeting nonsense.

Yes, we said the same. Never seen Made in Chelsea or TOWIE, but last night's episode reminded me of the clips/trailers I've seen - scripted and fake.

Morag really reminds me of a woman I work with (though this woman is twice Morag's age). Same voice, similar face, and tells us a million times a week just how "extrovert " she is and how she's always "out with the girls". I can well.imagine her cackling at a fireman stripping and telling everyone alllllll about it, over and over again.
I really do hope Adam gives up on her and tells her how awful she has been to him.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/09/2021 11:18

Last night's episode was even more cringetastic than usual.

Morag forcing Luke to seduce her. Ugh.

Bob wearing his shorts on a folorn trip to the fair (where was everyone else?) in the depths of winter. We won't mention Meg's outfit again.

Frank cooking with his top off, after failing miserably to disguise his irritation that Marylise was in control. There is nothing more passion-killing to me than a man who can't cook. Maybe a man who sulks. Frank is both. And grumpy. A grumpy old man, set in his ways, and male chauvinist pig. Literally nothing going for him.

Then the 2 set up scenes:

Amy bringing the healer in. Wtaf? Why? It isn't her Yes week! She only managed to swing that because the producers thought it would make for interesting TV when Josh would obviously refuse to buy it.

Alexis and Ant meeting with the expert in a coffee shop (and no one drinking anything but water, is their budget really that low Confused). No, that wasn't planned/rehearsed/staged at all! Hmm Hmm.

Least said about so-called early morning scenes in bed with the women in at least an hour's worth of make up. Just silly! Do they take us for fools?

longwayoff · 14/09/2021 11:20

Agree Sheldonesque, all seem completely inauthentic. Surely people don't behave like this in the real world? Who would tolerate them for longer than 5 mins? And the eloquence that suddenly comes upon them when producers have told them to have a deep and meaningful conversation is astonishing, especially in those whose vocabulary seems limited to saying not very much interspersed with fuck every third word. Scripted? Certainly not Grin

Hi all, I discovered MAFSUK last week and of course then read all the threads on here. Brilliant work everyone Grin

Just a quick contribution from me before I get on with my work backlog. Morag looks more than a bit like Piella Bakewell don't you think?

Just watching on catchup and Amy is in bed wearing a pair of Run DMC’s glasses

Megan saying Bob was dignified during the commitment ceremony? When he wasn’t shouting “bitch” and tearfully wailing

Jam Master Amy. It's like that and that's the way it is.

What's all the deleted posts?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2021 12:20

My couple to watch is Adam and Tayah.

I am not feeling the premature adulation or declarations of love.

If it implodes it will be spectacularly bad in the Sarah/Telv stylee.

I think I saw Megan noshing Bob on a clip.

I’m wondering if the script is villain/redemption, love/cataclysmic break up, dislike/true love and control/bite back dramas. They can’t go too far (be kind and all that jazz) and won’t want to pay for proper counselling.

And I’m still wiping the back of my knees with my eyebrows after the expert told Antlex that they could do the process as daters and not marrieds.

They are all bloody dating.after a fashion.

meadowbleu · 14/09/2021 12:22

What gets me is that I know it's trash TV, I can get on board with being manipulated to be outraged at some of the behaviours and cringe factors. To a point. During lockdown I watched a load of MAFS Australia on catch up, but then something happened, I forget what, probably something involving Cyrell and it totally jumped the shark for me.

I think Frank's stroppy top off cooking performance, which was weak as water and then screeching Morag's carry on, have tipped it for me.

I admit I find Morag's voice hard to listen to, but when you combine it with the utter cringfest last night, it was just too much. Just to be clear, it's not her accennnnnnnt, it's the shrill quality combined with the vocal fryyy, I think I find it far too attention seeking and dominating, especially given Luke's quieter and milder personality. Her performance made me more uncomfortable than Luke and that's probably saying something.

meadowbleu · 14/09/2021 12:25

@SheldonesqueTheBstard what I got from daters not marrieds is that they're not shelling out for another dress and fake wedding, although, they might be putting them in separate apartments, which is a win, surely?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2021 12:29

I like the thought of separate apartments for the daters.

They could have had the wedding on the beach. I’m assuming they still have all the gear but then that would interfere with the scheduling so perhaps not.

They do make a stunning couple though.

If he borrows Luke’s fireman outfit, I think I’d have to lie down and fan mesel.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2021 12:32

@JaneJeffer

You have a message flower. 😉

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2021 12:40

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2021 12:42

I hope Alexis and Ant get on. He seems very passive though compared to her.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 14/09/2021 12:55

It will be interesting to see what happens there. I’m assuming it was a genuine connection/attraction and it isn’t part of the game. Who knows? 🤷‍♀️

She seemed, for want of a better phrase, a bit softer round Ant in the cafe.

And she is practically a cotton wool ball compared to Nikita.

I’m wondering why Amy is allowed to lob stuff and swear though. I get that Nikita did the swears more often but Amy isn’t coming across much better. And I say that as another morning person who needs an hour to be human.

I don’t know which spiritual whirls are in her happy spiritual space but that morning it wouldn’t have been a shock to hear the clippyclopping of little cloven hooves.

PugInTheHouse · 14/09/2021 12:56

In S1 of MAFS USA there were a couple called Jamie and Doug, Jamie couldn't stand him at first, she was not attracted to him at all, quite strongly in fact but they are still together quite a few years later. A pp mentioned that it's not fair to expect a woman to stay if they don't fancy the man but sometimes that can grow and surely if they are dedicated to the experiment then they should give it a go. Unfortunately Megan I don't believe is willing to really do that, I think she's only trying as she doesn't want to look like a cow.
