I thought I had started a post about this programme when the pilot was out but just seen on Instagram that the series will be starting on 13th September. I hope it's as good as the pilot was.

Oh brill! The pilot was fantastic. Great news.

LloydColesCommotions · 09/09/2021 22:09

Excellent!

IsThisAkissingBook · 09/09/2021 22:10

Yes! So excited for this, loved the pilot.

mum2jakie · 14/09/2021 22:36

Did anyone watch yesterday? I hadn't registered that the first episode would be a repeat of the pilot episode. Reminded me how funny it was though. The rest of the episodes are on iPlayer but think I will watch week by week.

longtompot · 14/09/2021 23:23

Same. Just settled down to a double bill only for them to both be the same! Next week then.

Still loved the line about the guy who thought he was Jesus and the guy sat next to him said 'well he's no son of mine!' Haha!

Binged watched them all ! Loved it
The acting was brilliant and nice to see Dave Spikey as the actor mentor.
He is very talented as a performer and writer
So many social issues flagged up. I hope they make more!

rougemouse · 15/09/2021 12:09

I've watched the whole series and absolutely loved it.

the80sweregreat · 15/09/2021 12:23

@rougemouse

I've watched the whole series and absolutely loved it.
Me too. The guardian called it ' Fleabag' without the privilege or the hot priest ! Lol 😂 The main actress and her mum and nan were all fab. Such natural acting.
the80sweregreat · 15/09/2021 13:12

It was the telegraph not the guardian who wrote that as part of their review !

the80sweregreat · 16/09/2021 05:26

One question though : what was Alma doing for money when she was with her ex for years?
She had her own flat , are we to assume it was benefits?

Guess she would have got the flat coming out of care... then maybe he lived there and supported them? Or yeah, benefits. She had the interview at the job centre and they said she was on JSA and had to look for a job so actually yes, I think he'd probably been paying
longtompot · 16/09/2021 10:09

He had rolls of money in the drawer when she asked for some money and then accidentally slept with him. He just gave her a roll of £500.

Binged it, loved it. Siobhan Finneran was brilliant.

She was absolutely brilliant and I loved Jim too . The one playing her nan was also fab. I loved her little rants about the world. Such talented actresses and made it feel real. It was better than Fleabag and I loved that too. I am hoping there will be more from Sophie Millan ( and see more of Dave Spikey too on tv)
the80sweregreat · 16/09/2021 12:02

Willan not Millan

SmashingBlouson · 17/09/2021 19:17

Binge watched this and thought it was brilliant and very entertaining. It's great to see more working class characters on telly and it had an optimistic vibe about it, despite tackling some more serious issues.

mum2jakie · 17/09/2021 21:30

Omg 😂 episode two is fantastic 🤣 Love the shit shag with the flamingo lamp!

the80sweregreat · 17/09/2021 21:55

I loved it when she was told by the acting agency ' all the working class slots have gone ' .. made me lol!!

lilyborderterrier · 17/09/2021 22:08

I binged watched it today and it’s brilliant. I loved it.

the80sweregreat · 17/09/2021 22:13

It had such a quirky feel to it and she was so optimistic in the face of such huge problems.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 17/09/2021 23:31

I found this by chance after watching Back to Life and binged watched it over a couple of days and loved it. I thought the four women characters were brilliantly played. I particularly loved Lorraine Ashbourne and Siobhan Finneran, they are both fantastic actors and played their parts so well. I really emphasised with some of Grandma Joan's rants and it was so moving at the end. Brilliant series. I'm bereft it's over😢

the80sweregreat · 18/09/2021 08:04

Shout out for Leanne (an Adele impersonator in real life ) who is the friend you can rely on.
The Mum and Nan actresses were just fabulous too. I don't think I've enjoyed a whole series of something of this caliber for many years.
I've told everyone I know to watch it!
I hope Sophie goes on to do other things and becomes a huge star. She is an inspiration.

Doubleraspberry · 18/09/2021 12:05

I was so excited to see this thread after loving the pilot, and binged the whole thing last night. I think DH is a bit taken aback at how thrilled I am to see a BBC comedy series written by and starring a working class young woman, in which every single main character is a woman. It’s made me laugh and cry, and I adored it. The only downside is making me think again how deadly so much of the usual output is, same old faces, same old agendas.

This and The Other One (also starring the wonderful Siobhan Finneran) have given me some hope that genuine diversity might fight its way through some day.

the80sweregreat · 18/09/2021 13:21

I did love how she put her ex to rights at the end. I was cheering her on.
She will break the cycle being used , abused and then dumped with a child as her mum and her nan were , by men who clearly didn't care :(
She wanted more out of life.
