Doesn't everyone call it uni these days? Most people apply to 5 unis through UCAS, but as a PP said, Corrie have only heard of Oxford.

Oxbridge is a separate application process to UCAS, as I understand it.

They're not- you still apply through UCAS They have an earlier deadline than most other unis though (15th October- the same deadline as those applying to other unis for medicine, veterinary, etc) and they have separate admissions tests for some subjects. It rings a bell that you may have had the opportunity to write a separate shorter personal statement to them in addition to your main UCAS one which goes to all unis you apply for, but I'm not sure about that!

On those threads about words that annoy you, I'd say uni. My husband would vote for leccy, people on Brookside always interfered with leccy meters.

So dull of soap scriptwriters to only ever have Oxford (never Cambridge) as an ambition for academic teens. If they don't get there, that's it, the knicker factory/market stall beckons. New characters of student age are sometimes permitted to be attending a local university.
Although come to think of it, didn't Ryan go to Glasgow a different head back? Shame the brains were left in the old head.

I don't think it is, nobody ever mentions Salford. There must be a weatherfield university, attached to the splendid hospital. And with postgraduate teacher training.

I can’t remember where I read it now, but a very long time ago I read they Weatherfield is supposed to BE Salford (i.e. a fictionalised version of it). I might be completely wrong, but it would make sense that no one mentions Salford if the two are one and the same place ‘in universe’- in the same way that Bromley-By-Bow tube station doesn’t exist in EastEnders.
