4 £ for them biscuits. 😖😖

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 01/09/2021 21:59

Right see you next time. Bloody school starts tomorrow. Ugh.

littlbrowndog · 01/09/2021 22:00

We have been back for 2 weeks 🙁

GrouchyKiwi · 01/09/2021 22:00

Mostly I watch this to bitch about John and Gregg and enjoy the things you wonderful people write. The Professionals series is my joy.

See you tomorrow at 8pm!

I'll put them on my Christmas List. No one I know likes them so they'd be all mine!
Cuck00soup · 01/09/2021 22:01

There are definitely varied expectations. Reality TV star? You'd be praised for a cheese & pickle sandwich.

Older guy with ambition that outstrips your ability? Praised for flavour.

Non-zany Woman over 40. Best you produce something amazing then.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/09/2021 22:03

@OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow

I once mentioned my love of ginger to my dm. I ended up with 5 jars. I’m hoping it ferments and makes ginger liqueur. Fuck it was close! Michelle was toss. Dunno if I can stand the rest of the week. Is a bit dull. When is professionals?
Grate it and put it through a chocolate sponge mixture. Put tinned pears in the bottom of a loaf tin (or a cake tin) and with the ginger syrup and some of the pear juice from the tin. Put the sponge on top and bake. Turn it out.

Serve warm with whipped cream or chocolate custard.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

@Pebbledashery

Kadeena is so lovely
She is gorgeous. She won a gold medal in the Paralympic cycling the other day and is in the athletics running events too. She knows she might only have a few more years of competition before her MS gets worse but is so positive and determined. So pleased she is doing well in this, she is so funny and clever.
littlbrowndog · 01/09/2021 22:04

She is cool. I like her a lot

ilovesooty · 01/09/2021 23:21

So is Johannes still there? I'm on holiday till next Wednesday and can't watch.

JemimaTab · 01/09/2021 23:33

Hmm. I do wonder if aspects of this are a bit fixed. For example, the ingredients-under-the-cloche round - most of us (regular home cook, non-expert types) would have at least an idea of what to with fish, mushrooms, pineapple, butternut squash. But I’d be struggling with offal - which is what Johannes was landed with. He did fine - but I wouldn’t call that a level playing field exactly.
Plus it annoyed me that Michelle started off by doing the whole “I’m such a terrible cook” schtick, which these showbiz types can’t seem to resist (and I don’t believe).
On this lot, I’m liking Johannes and Gavin (who came across as pretty laid back, affable - it does somewhat show up the reality show desperado types who are always gurning and playing to the cameras).

Blueberrycreampie · 02/09/2021 00:08

Just looked up Gavin Estler on Wiki. He was born exactly 2 weeks after me, and is a fellow Scot. Gavin to win! That probably means he's doooomed.

Blueberrycreampie · 02/09/2021 00:09

Sorry Esler - no t.

Davros · 02/09/2021 00:20

@Blueberrycreampie

Think Gavin may be a countryman of mine!
Aye, he is a Sweat (as we say dahn Sarf)
Blueberrycreampie · 02/09/2021 01:10

@Davros
I've lived dahn Sarf for 30 years and never heard that expression? 🤔

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2021 08:59

Sweaty sock = jock. Not a pleasant term !

You can hear Gavin is Scottish. I think my accent may have nearly faded to that extent , too.

Ah good old rhyming slang! Should have guessed. 👍

I'm fine with it! Sounds as if it was maybe used in the army/navy where a lot of Scots are called Jocks?
Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2021 11:49

Nae bother, hen!

fourquenelles · 02/09/2021 12:04

My old grandpa used to say of me that I'd eat shit if it was sugared but there is no way I would eat crystallised, preserved, raw or any way other than in a Jamaican Ginger cake ginger. Disgusting slimy, fibrous, yeuky stuff. Bananas are the same. shudders

Just a reminder it's at 8 tonight not 9.

For those of us with a teeny-tiny soft spot for Jay Rayner this is a good read. Or actually even if you just like reading about foodie things.
