The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil
Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

Did anyone else think Shawn Evans's voice/accent was really odd and stilted ? I know he's from Liverpool but he sounded all over the place. I love him in Endeavour.

SpindleWhorl · 30/08/2021 08:35

Yes, @Violetparis, he started off somewhere near Middlesbrough, headed towards Manchester, then veered into Liverpool! I think he might head off to Chester tonight.

Tulipomania · 30/08/2021 08:38

Can someone please explain what the message was about in the video that was on the memory stick at the end?

SpindleWhorl · 30/08/2021 08:43

My extensive research over a coffee shows that there are many different sizes of submarines in the British fleet, and the Vanguard is one of the world's big fuckers (technical term).

It's the 4th down on the left in this comparative diagram.

Really enjoyed this. I live in a navy city but I don't know that much lingo. Was pleased to see a picture by a local artist in the background.
Agree she would no way be picked for this job in real life! One of those where you have to suspend disbelief and go with it.
I highly rate Suranne Jones as an actor. I think a lot of people don't like her because her character was a bit deranged in series 2 of Doctor Foster and socially awkward in gentleman Jack. Which makes her a good actor in my book. She will always be Karen to me though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 30/08/2021 09:06

I don't get the Suranne Jones dislike either.

Yes, re difficulty in hearing what was being said most of the time. Will rewatch with subtitles.

I knew Shaun Evans looked familiar but hadn't clocked it was he of Endeavour fame until I spotted his name mentioned in the OP of this thread.

But I would assume that means they pack more people and kit on, rather than having more space. It was definitely roomier than I'd have expected.

I enjoyed the way she was carefully going backwards down the steep steps as Shaun Evans' character zoomed down them forwards. Hopefully by the end she'll be sliding down on the rails with her hands!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:25

Which part is Shaun Evans? I never watched Endeavour but I know who he is and can't see him in this?

I know Martin CompSton of course (yes, the capitalised S in the middle is deliberate, for this is how he spells his name! Glares meaningfully at thread), Patterson Joseph (was he not also in Dr Who and maybe Casualty?) , Suranne Jones and the smarmy Doctor Foster one (although wouldn't have placed him otherwise!). Is Shaun Evans the coxswain?

What has Rose Leslie been in?

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:26

Oh, and also the guy form Sex Education being all shifty!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:27

I decided it didn't matter what the trawlermen were saying. DH put on subtitles about halfway through . I have said this on other threads : it's the blooming hipster beards!!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:29

The sub needs to be bigger for filming. A man on BBC this morning said it was too big as well. But it's a set with cameras and boom mics and dolly tracks etc so it will have to be bigger.... The claustrophobia of the bunk room was quite well done.

RampantIvy · 30/08/2021 10:30

What has Rose Leslie been in?

Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:30

Ah, I watch neither!

I do recognise her, though...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/08/2021 10:32

'You know nothing, Jon Snow ...'

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/08/2021 10:33

I’m rewatching at home. With subtitles lol. Lots of mumbling !!

Length of two football pitches and tall as 4 double decker buses

Missed that

@RampantIvy

What has Rose Leslie been in?

Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones

Also Luther and The Good Fight
Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:34

But manages to stay hidden!

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:35

Nope , also don't watch those! I maybe have just vaguely heard of her. Imdb tells me she was in Vera once, so it could be that. Was she maybe the hunky one's wife or something?

Janaih · 30/08/2021 10:36

I always have subtitles on for dramas. "Put the words on!" I say to dh as soon as they start Grin

Janaih · 30/08/2021 10:37

She is the hunky ones wife in game of thrones and real life!

SpindleWhorl · 30/08/2021 10:38

Rose Leslie played Gwen Dawson in Downton, the one that Sybil helped become a secretary, and then she married posh Mr Harding.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:38

I know she is Kit Harington's wife but ,honestly, GoT stuff goes right over my head. Never watched a minute if it, other than via Gogglebox!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/08/2021 10:38

She's now married to Jon Snow, aka Kit Harington, I believe, and was pregnant during the filming. Hence the big coat, I expect.

Piggywaspushed · 30/08/2021 10:40

Oh, yes, the big coat makes sense, therefore!

I remember Daphne's huge handbag in Frasier.

SpindleWhorl · 30/08/2021 10:42

Apparently Rose Leslie is Scottish aristocracy.
