The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil
Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

It’s endeavour in early 1970s he could have hideous beard! I think endeavour going to be less taxing than plot on plot and sub plot.

SpindleWhorl · 12/09/2021 19:06

I think I'll stick with Vigil because you guys make it a watchalong experience that I enjoy.

Same.
Laaaaa · 12/09/2021 21:09

Why does MC have such a small part? Unless there are flashbacks to come

viques · 12/09/2021 21:23

Bugger, missed. First 20 minutes and there have clearly been HUGE plot developments. Am now in desperate clue searching mode.

TheChosenTwo · 12/09/2021 21:27

Just waiting for dd and then we’re going to start. Have i missed anything juicy?

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2021 21:38

The MI5 woman looks so botoxed that her face barely moves when she talks!

Booknooks · 12/09/2021 21:38

I do wish it was all filmed on board, I think it would have built more suspense and would have been a really good way to build tension and a more unique viewing experience. The back and forth between flashbacks, the sub and back on land I think ruins that a bit- any info could have been communicated back.

ImFree2doasiwant · 12/09/2021 21:39

I'm not enjoying tonight's episode.

TokyoSushi · 12/09/2021 21:40

All a bit weird tonight, but sticking with it!

Booknooks · 12/09/2021 21:42

I'm not enjoying tonight's episode.
I know it's fiction, but there's too much ridiculousness for me.
hopeishere · 12/09/2021 21:57
Shock
Squiz81 · 12/09/2021 21:57

Too many flashbacks. And annoyed me that in her flashbacks she saw herself, like she was looking in on the scene. - surely no one has flashbacks like that.

Ekofisk · 12/09/2021 21:58

Whoa! Who was in the full face mask?

ImFree2doasiwant · 12/09/2021 21:59

@Booknooks I almost said it's a bit too far fetched.

ImFree2doasiwant · 12/09/2021 21:59

The Cox'n?

SpindleWhorl · 12/09/2021 22:02

It was a very, erm, busy episode.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/09/2021 22:02

@Ekofisk

Whoa! Who was in the full face mask?
Coxswain wasn’t it?
KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2021 22:05

I'm pretty sure it was the coxswain but I'm also pretty sure that he'll have a legitimate reason for wearing the mask and knocking her to the floor. Some sort of poisonous leak and if she didn't hit the ground then she could die etc

NoisyBrain · 12/09/2021 22:06

Ah yes, good theory!
DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/09/2021 22:07

Think it was coxswain. In a mask because of the poor atmosphere. He was trying to save Amy.

M15 lady had so much Botox it was ridiculous. No expression at all.

NoisyBrain · 12/09/2021 22:07

I wonder then if it'll turn out that the cook was killed by poisonous gas not Shifty Beardyface?

Booknooks · 12/09/2021 22:08
@Booknooks I almost said it's a bit too far fetched.
Yeah, I think for most people the thought of being underwater in a confined vessel carrying nuclear weapons is enough just going about its day to day business, to have civvy police uncovering this in the space of a few days and letting mi5 know etc seems a bit ridiculous. I know it's only a programme, but feels a bit much. Should have been someone going on board (unrealistic enough) and investigating by themselves. As she hasn't seemed to be able to make contact to those back home, kind of seems like what's the point of her being there, they've uncovered more than she has Confused
