The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil
Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by Bafta nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta winner James Strong, and Bafta nominee Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil
Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

She needs to go back and explicitly team up with Prentice (the XO). He really thought he'd killed Burke, but hadn't, which would indicate that he wasn't aware of any plot or plan to do so if we're looking at an Orient Express scenario.

He's the outsider shipped on to sort out discipline, which we know is needed after the incident in the US. She's also an outsider, they should totally team up. Possibly with the guy flown in to replace Burke.

ApolloandDaphne · 06/09/2021 10:18

@Booknooks

I wasn't overly impressed by the episode last night. I feel like it's going to drag on for more than just this series (not a spoiler as not seen anything that alludes to that, but assuming from the background they're delving into etc), and seems like there's too much going on elsewhere to build much suspense in the sub, which seems a really wasted opportunity. I'll watch the rest of the series, but not holding out hope of it getting any better.
I think on many series of this type there is always one episode that isn't so good because they need to get a few things sorted out before it ramps up again. Line Of Duty had a number of dud episodes but it was still great overall.

I like this plan!

Ooh teaming up with Prentice is a good shout. But isn't he only there because of his daddy so might not be keen to expose any higher ups. Although maybe has daddy issues so would love to! He seemed more compliant in this episode.

the80sweregreat · 06/09/2021 11:37

There was a woman standing by the barrier to the car park when a Kirsty was driving into the multi storey in a high vis ( it looked like a woman but it was blink and you'll miss it )
Why didn't she stop there and get her attention first ? I think she had an idea it would be MI5 ..
The rest of it is baffling me a lot and I lost a bit of attention around 9.30!

Booknooks · 06/09/2021 12:09

Yes that's true @ApolloandDaphne, fingers crossed!

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 13:35

Most people hated it egg although there were lots of military families so it was kind of not spoken about. As much as anything else, it's a blot on the landscape. It stoked a lot of anti American feeling at the time. I grew up practising 3 minute warning drills and believing we were a specific Soviet target. The SNP still has a no Trident platform, as depicted in the programme last night.

DH and I are loving this series but living in Glasgow we get so distracted.

That's Loch Lomond! That's Largs (where Rose Leslie was talking to a guy on the seafront) The City Chambers! Clyde Tunnel! Waterloo St carpark (even though they said it was Renfrew Street).

Anyway. No idea who dunnit. My money's on the slimy politician.

BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 14:31

Oh and local knowledge doesn't help when your woman is driving north out of the Clyde tunnel with the Spooks in hot pursuit.

"Why doesn't she just drive into Morrisons at Anniesland" says DH and he has a point. More open and public than the top floor of a deserted car park.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:33

It wasn't Largs , apparently. Twas Cumbrae...

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:34

This was the same in another programme the name of which I have forgotten where I was constantly distracted by the alleged 5 minute popping from somewhere like Largs to Glasgow!

Yeah you'd think the top of a multistorey car park is probably the worst choice ever!
Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:36

That said, I thought it was Largs. And there is a Bath Street in Largs. But the internet says it is Millport. Of the enforced circular cycle route school trips!

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:38

More to the point, why was she even in The Clyde Tunnel? Grin

BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 14:39

Bit like Broadchurch where the beach/harbour scenes were in Dorset and the town centre was near Bristol somewhere.

BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 14:40

Cos it looks all sinister and dramatic?

Still trying to work out where the police office is.

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2021 14:41

To show she doesn’t have any claustrophobia issues therefore she cannot be the grown up almost-step daughter?! 🤭

Tulipomania · 06/09/2021 14:42

I predict that she's going to team up with the guy who got the gun in the last episode - Walsh? - to solve the mystery. Because now he owes her his life. Or at the very least he's going to get her out of a sticky situation.

BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 14:46

I got the impression that the Loch Lomond car crash was recent. Well recent as in a couple of years and that the wee girl would now be 13 or 14, not 30 odd. Just as assumption though.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:46

The tunnel is a motif. Yes, that's true! Also the multi storey not on Renfrew Street.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 14:50

Blythswood Square is mentioned as a location. It's years since I went there ( when it was full of prostitutes : not me obviously!)but could that be it?

BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 15:06

Blythswood Square has all changed, @Piggywaspushed, it's posh now with boutique hotels and smart bars.

According to this, the police station is the City of Glasgow college in N Hanover St.

Hello all I'd love to watch this but I have less stamina in the evenings than my 13 year old so only watch telly with her. She's ok with most 15s as long as not too sexy is this ok for her age?

It's not sexy at all so far! References to drink and drugs, and murder (obviously). Might get distressing later in the series - claustrophobia and anxiety setting in.
BroccoliFloret · 06/09/2021 15:10

I'd say so. 3 episodes in and no sex, not much violence. Some quite dark bits with a threatened suicide and drowning, but not gory.
